I can't find my thread from a couple of weeks ago, but need some support tonight. You were all amazing before.

We went on holiday last week and I napped as much as possible so I'd be up for sleep training in earnest when we got back. Well tonight is the night. He had milk in a bottle downstairs before his bath, which I'll be phasing out after a week in favour of a bit of milk in a cup, or none at all. He's been screaming like a banshee for an hour now and has been sick twice. I was timing him and going in to resettle at intervals of 3 minutes, 5, 8, then going back to the beginning, but after the second vom bomb I'm sitting in his room while he screeches at me.

I will not give in. He will not have milk. He will sleep.

Oh bloody hell, after I wrote that he laid down and started snoring. I feel invincible!

Night 4, come at me.

What a transformation. Message getting Through

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/10/2016 04:28

Gah why do I always end up with the 4am wake up?! Angry we just take it in turns to do each wake up, rather than splitting half the night. But I always wind up getting up at this time Hmm

Diddlydokey · 12/10/2016 08:57

Oh dear. Did he resettle quickly?

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/10/2016 11:45

About 45 minutes, and apparently he was up for half an hour at midnight. Dreaded night 5 tonight.

You are doing so well! My 10 month old has 3 night feeds still, and it's killing me! Do you think this would be a good age to try your technique? She doesn't eat much during the day, probably due to all the night time milk! It's killing me, as I do all the night feeds myself!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/10/2016 12:04

Haha oh dear, I seem to have become an oracle of sleep training! Yes, I would, veggie. Hopefully she'll be hungry for her breakfast without milk during the night. Have you asked your HV if they have a sleep workshop you could attend?

Peaceloveandbiscuits, you are a star!
It's so good to read about the realities of sleep training. And see it work.
Professionals seem to think it's painless, but it's not. It's hard work, but so necessary for some children.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/10/2016 12:18

You've all been so kind and supportive, thank you.
DS is such a dear little boy when he's slept well, and I am desperate to have him back. Also really need to catch some Zs myself. And I'm still on the same 4 pints of milk I bought on Saturday Grin unheard of!

My health visitor just advised me to wait until she's 1, but I don't think I can keep up the multiple night feeds on my own for much longer, plus I have 2 other children and it disturbs their sleep too!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/10/2016 17:54

Pfft no, 10 months is fine to do gentle sleep training in my opinion.

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 12/10/2016 17:55

OP you are doing brilliantly. Well done :)

DorotheaHomeAlone · 12/10/2016 18:59

Veggie don't wait. I think 1 is too late and will be much more difficult and distressing for you all. I'd do it now. Definitely.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/10/2016 19:15

I agree. In hindsight sleep training him as a baby was a piece of piss compared to now when he can answer back Shock

He didn't nap today, despite my best efforts, so I took him out in the rain and made him run around all afternoon ready for a 6pm bedtime. I lied to him and said I'd be back in a minute, left the room and he fell asleep in a few minutes Smile

I'm going out tonight and DH is off work tomorrow, so he's going to do overnight and have a lie in tomorrow morning. At least that's the plan now; he might change his mind come 4am.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/10/2016 13:21

Gah today's nap isn't going well, and I have to leave the house in 10 minutes to go to the dentist. My mother has come up to look after DS and I was hoping he would sleep through it all. He was up at 6 and was falling asleep eating his lunch. Gah.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/10/2016 16:25

Tooth is out and all good. Hope DH feels up to being in charge tonight because I definitely don't.

Veggiesupremeextracheese · 14/10/2016 10:08

How was your night Peace?

I am biting the bullet and starting sleep training this evening, inspired by your success Smile

angelpuffs · 14/10/2016 10:44

Veggie- please keeps us updated on how you do. I'm going to start sleep training my 9 month old next week. Does your DC still have a dream feed? Mine does and I'm going to try and drop that at the same time (maybe). Good luck!

peaceloveandbiscuits · 14/10/2016 12:05

Veggie and Angel please keep us updated, either on this thread or we could create a new sleep training support thread?

I'm in loads of pain after having my tooth out yesterday so DH did all of the last two nights. It hasn't been great, by all accounts. I think last night he either had toothache or tummy ache because he really wasn't happy.

OP posts:
Veggiesupremeextracheese · 14/10/2016 12:19

Angel, yes my dd has a feed at 11pm, 2am and 5am! I am worried about cutting them all out, but I think it will be too confusing for her eliminating only 2 of them? Shes also not gaining weight properly as she doesn't eat much due to being full of milk! Grin.

Veggiesupremeextracheese · 14/10/2016 12:20

Peace, I hope your tooth pain doesn't continue Sad

peaceloveandbiscuits · 14/10/2016 12:22

He's just gone down for his nap without any trouble, so it was worth braving playgroup this morning with my ailments!

OP posts:
Veggiesupremeextracheese · 14/10/2016 23:36

Well I have just started, I hate this! I have decided to do it gradually, so just the first bottle tonight if possible I will cut out, and see how we get on. I don't know if I am overcomplicating things, but it seems a bit much to go from 3 feeds to none! My hope is that if I can cut this bottle out first, then I can tackle the others next week. Shes really kicking off now though Sad

Veggiesupremeextracheese · 15/10/2016 00:27

Still screaming Sad. I'm wondering if it would just be easier to continue with the night feeds! Aarrrhh I hate hearing her cry Sad.
