Not entirely true...she slept for 20 mins in car when DP took her for a drive at 4am. Woke up when he came back through the door. Slept for 20 mins in his arms at 5:30am, then for 20 mins at 8am. I had coffee, and went on a mad cleaning spree. I feel surprisingly awake. LO is crabby, has a temperature, has gone off her bottle (not that she ever really took it properly, wants it but then does not...teething?). Cried for 10 mins then stopped a second ago when daddy came into the room. She wanted him not me....
DP is not concerned, she still has a bit of a cough from a few weeks ago...should we go to GP today? He thinks not, I think so...she seems ok right now....
Oh, and my glasses broke yesterday so I cant see a thing...

kiera · 20/02/2007 11:03

hello lovefamily & everyone else

teething too here I think - red cheeks, constant chewing on things, v unhappy baby and worst of all he isn't going down for day naps at all - managed to get him down for half an hour yesterday morning then he only had 2 x 15 minute naps in the buggy !!! the upside was that he then slept for almost 8 hours solid last night - 8.30 till 4.15am so dh got out of having to get up to do the bottle and I fed him myself at 4 and 6. so why am I so shattered this morning??!!

I find if I bfeed to sleep in the day he will wake very quickly after being put down (15-20 mins), settles much better if I don't. prob a good thing...really feel for you, cruise.

marls - I have ordered the babywise book, it sounds like it's really working for you. I suspect lo will resist being put into any kind of a routine...ds1 naturally found his own routine and I'm hoping lo will do the same...but I'm always open to new ideas! redbeki - it's a book from a guy called Ezzo, it's American but you can get hold of copies in the UK via Amazon, or eBay if you're lucky.

i don't feel nostalgic at all for the new baby bit, i found it completely overwhelming in every way, much prefer them a bit older! my favourite bit is 6-18 months altho' have to say lo is mega cute right now!

feeling good today as dh is happy to support me in pursuing my dream of going back to uni to train as a midwife ! can only do it full-time tho' (no other nursing qualifications/experience) so will have to wait till lo is at school - only 5 years away lol!

hope everyone has a good day...

kiera · 20/02/2007 11:13

hi pavlov

unless she has a temp I would put it down to teething - going through the same here too - except won't sleep in day but will at night thank god. I'm giving him 1/2 tsp calpol to ease the pain.

Pavlovthecat · 20/02/2007 11:37

Thanks Keira, she does have a temp...reduced with calpol, and mostly happy...decided to see how she goes after much loved shower with DP. Currently I can hear him singing to her, and I am loathed to go in and see the water all over the floor!
She is definitely teething. She has two small teeth on bottom now, but they are little and appear to still be causing some pain, or else she has more on way already...she wants her bottle but wont take it, so I fed it without the teat, like a cup...drank half, dribbled half...

Pavlovthecat · 20/02/2007 11:38

oh and good luck with your teething LO Keira...

kiera · 20/02/2007 11:49

thanks - I heard that teeth hurt until they break through the skin then they are ok so it sounds like she has more on the way! or if she has a temp maybe it's just a bug. my lo hasn't got any yet. ds1 didn't have any until the day after his first birthday but his gums bothered him for ages before that congrats on your lo drinking half a bottle like a cup

Pavlovthecat · 20/02/2007 12:01

She has had a bug for a while, and seemed to be getting better, but last night and today, bit cranky and temp of 39.1 (38.1 but armpit therm, told to add 1 to it?). She has just had some BF to top up her feed and now asleep, likely to be for at least 10 mins!
She is soooo cute with her lil teeth. Her gums bothered her for about 8 weeks or so first too...

tibsy · 20/02/2007 13:16

hi girlies!
been to baby group this a.m. had someone in talking about......sleep, hah bloody hah!!! the most important thing is to get them to go to sleep by themselves without aid of boob/bottle/rocking, sound familiar cruise?! that doesnt mean that you cant be in the room with them or stroke their faces or whatever. was very similar to ncss, so have decided to try REALLY REALLY hard to do that again.we did have good results last time, then was ill over xmas and it all went pete tong.
ginger - lol at your post, sorry, but have visions of you and a cork, oh dear. i just love the fact that when thye wake, they lay ther blowing raspberries, farting like troopers etc, very endearing, even when desperate for sleep. even better when you're co sleeping, which i think you do too?
cruise and redbeki, my 1st is a ds and yes, it did take a bit of getting used to again, but i absolutely love it. and he is an absolute gem with her, although i know it was hard for him at first. i was 19 when i had ds and although i very much enjoyed him, i feel more emotionally ready this time and i have more patience too!
welcome back pavlov sympathies with teething
and kiera, think your dream to train as a midwife sounds great and those few years will fly by, just think of the advice you'll be able to offer re. sleeping!!
as you can tell, dd asleep (shows as i've written an essay!!) shes been an absolute doll and i echo those thoughts on really enjoying this stage. cruise, wanted to ask you something about weaning, but forgot, will try and remember later!

redbeki · 20/02/2007 15:01

hi all, just a quickie.Had the best night ever for some reason.lo slept for 8 hours without waking, but I was
so restless, wandering if she was ok,coz it's so out of character.Sympathise with all your teething lo's.We haven''t got to that stage yet, phew, and not looking forward to it,esp with b.feeding.ouch!

Pavlovthecat · 20/02/2007 16:00

I thought it was teething, howeer, she took a bottle this afternoon with water in it...its all so strange. She is sooooo sooooo soooo tired. Went to get her pneumacocal (sp) this afternoon but could not have it as she has a temp (DP said 'ooooh no she has not got a temp today' bloody liar just wanted it over and done with!!! So got wait another week, already late (you lot prob dont need it as my LO was a week or so before the full injections were allowed to be used).

I asked DP to take LO to see the 'baby jabber' as we call her, he said why dont we all go and then have a walk after, as a family, that'll be nice. Yeah great, I cant see sh*t without glasses. have not slept since 2am, idea was to have some sleep whilst out. I asked him why he didn't just say if he did not want to do it?So we all go plodding down to Surgery, all the other mothers think I am very rude as I peer at them with a frown (I cant see anything), no glasse). Go for a walk in local park. I tell him we need baby milk etc from shops, I cant drive the car, no glasses (thinking I can nip home and tidy bedroom then a quick nap before they get back) so he drops me off, and says I have to take the LO as he has bad back so cant lift the car seat. So, my theory of sleeping/tidying bedrooom has gone out the window (she is asleep in car seat in cot, afraid to mvoe her, or go to sleep as she will wake any minute). Somehow I went from asking DP to take LO to nurse for me so I could sleep to going to nurse myself and now looking after LO, whilst he has gone to shops baby free with music blaring in car (he turned it up just as I got out, to rub it in that there was no baby with him, I am sure), nice little break. AAAAARGH. Sorry for the rant. Feels better already.

cruisemum1 · 20/02/2007 19:56

oooh! lots to catch up[ on. I have been to the coast today visiting my fmaily so too knackered to reply today. Will catch up tomorrow (hopefully)

redbeki · 20/02/2007 21:04

what a day pavlov, good to get things off your chest.Have a nice soak in the bath with loads of oils and candles, and have some relaxing 'you' time,,works for me anyway, even if it's just 20 minutes, makes you feel and smell good!

redbeki · 20/02/2007 21:07

We are miles from coast-sounds good cruise, can I come next time ? could do with some sea air!

cruisemum1 · 20/02/2007 21:47

redbeki - I live in South London so not near the coast but all my family migrated to Worthing about 6 yrs ago. Ironic really since I spent the majority of my working life at sea and now I am a townie! More later, my ma is here and demanding my attention - bless her!

kiera · 20/02/2007 21:54

hello, just checking in before bed. I'm such a mumsnet addict!

well, lo was grizzly all day so administered calpol which seemed to help and did get him down in the cot for an hour at lunch-time which was good compared to yesterday. dh had to give him a bottle at 7pm though - I am bfeeding apart from lo's middle of the night bottle of formula but he didn't have it last night as slept through so my boobs are a bit short of milk today, isn't it amazing how your body adapts to loss of just one feed? after trying both boobs and still hungry I figured he needed a top-up and he had 6 or 7oz with dh! hope we have a good night again...just woke up crying half an hour ago, very unlike him...

pavlov - hope your lo gets better quickly. we have an ear thermometer which is quick and reliable, can recommend them for an accurate reading.

wishing you all a restful evening/night...

cruisemum1 · 21/02/2007 08:23

uuugh. 6 wakings last night. wtf is going on?!

tibsy · 21/02/2007 08:39

cruise, echoes of WTF & sympathies
managed to get lo to bed WITHOUT the boob last night ........... woke at 10 for a feed, back to bed no probs, no boob, then woke at 1am and stayed awake for 2 HOURS!!!! she has NEVER done that before. refused to give in re. boob but brought her in with me and she went off to sleep eventually( no boob)
dp had 'conveniently' fallen asleep downstairs, not that i blame him tbh!!! and to be fair, he got ds up for school and brought me a bagel and coffee in bed, very rare and SO welcome
hope everyone else had better nights

tibsy · 21/02/2007 09:12

redbeki congrats on the 8 hours!! long may it continue

gingerninja · 21/02/2007 10:10

I'm still here lurking in the shaddows. Sleeping is still a bit of a mystery in this household but it's definately better than the hour wakings we were getting before. Don't know if it's coincidence but I've been wrapping her up a lot more at night. (then I lay there awake worrying that I'm overheating her) but she is sleeping better. Last night she woke twice for feeds but I blame DH on the first one as he was doing is grunting like a pig act again. He may get banished back to the spare room before too long. ANyway, she settled back reasonably quickly even after 2 nappy changes at about 4 oclock!.

Tibsy, I had the two hour middle of the night session day before yesterday. Crap eh?

Kiera DD is the most misserable bugger during the day at the mo too which I think is teething. She just spends the whole day whining and grizzling and it's driving me crackers.

I've sussed day time sleep (well the last three days) She's falling to sleep on me on the sofa. Two hours at lunch the last 3 days. Means I can't do anything but hey ho, just have to have 40 winks myself.

tibsy · 21/02/2007 10:18

good to see you ginger! not because of lack of sleep tho
re. the overheating, put my dd in less clothes last night as thought the warmth was aggravating her eczema (only a little but she was waking scratching it) think we were better off when she was warmer tho!
i hope you're arming yourself with the tv remote, a good book, bar of choccie and cuppa before you sit down with lo.... and if lo is getting some sleep ENJOY!

redbeki · 21/02/2007 12:28

afternoon ladies, had a 7 hour block of sleep last night,I think it's due to having food at 5ish.I started to wean from 41/2 months, against advice I know, but now having lunch and tea,and she's enjoying every bit of it.
kiera,did you try relax c.d.'s?.
We are in landlocked midlands cruise, so at least 2 hours to any coast anywhere. We enjoy it when we do go though.
going to have some lunch now while lo in cot, catch you all later.

redbeki · 21/02/2007 12:31

tibsy,is dd's eczema bad? my ds had it when he was a baby, and was so disturbed at night,it's really distressing for them.I really sympathise with you.

gingerninja · 21/02/2007 14:00

Hey Tibsy

My LO has eczema too. Bit of a nightmare actually because one day it seems OK, next it;s flared up again. We've been using Hydrocortisone for a while now and it's the only thing that manages it but I really don't want to use it for too long.

tibsy · 21/02/2007 14:41

ginger - dd's eczema not too bad atm, was also given hydrocortisone 0.5% which i was very reluctant to use. but it has cleared up patches on face and scalp which was main problem area. just got some cetroben (sp) an emollient, upon advice from hv so will give that a whirl. fingers x'd i find it varies too and heat seems to aggravate it, so has affected sleep

redbeki - how is your lo now, did you find any links with foods and eczema? i know they're all different, but helps to have a heads up 7 hour block of sleep, yay!!!!!!!!! re. weaning, i started dd off earlier and ds was weaned at 3 months, was 12 years ago, but he's perfectly fine and dandy, no allergies or other probs. you know when your child is ready

Myrtle1 · 21/02/2007 14:59

Hello, can I join this thread? I know Cruise from the September 06 thread

From reading some of the thread I can see that most people's LOs sleep alot worse than my DS so please don't throw me out for complaining! DS's usual pattern is bed at 7pm then he'll wake about 9:30 or 10pm when I feed him then he'll sleep til 3:30am/4am and demand a feed but usually is just a quick 5 mins on the breast then he'll wake at 7 on the dot and I'll try to feed him but he won't be interested and is just full of beans and raring to go. If I try and put him on the breast he maybe gives it one suck and then finds something more interesting to look at. He is also weaning at the mo and has one cube of puree at 11ish and another cube at 4:30ish along with milk. He just seems to be in a habit of doing all hsi feeding at night and in the afternoon and I don't know what to do with the little tyke
