Thought I'd start a new thread as I couldn't see another one yet (will get HQ to delete if already up and running).

Tis good to talk.....

To add- when people say to me now 'is she still not sleeping through?' I am just lieing and saying yes she is. I can't be arsed with all the advice that follows mainly around being a bit wierd to still bf at 7.5 mths..

missmargot · 24/04/2014 20:00

I like the tactic of lying to people who ask.

It seems like one step forwards and two back here. Tuesday night was better, he slept 10-1:30 then settled again fairly quickly until 3:30, fed and then slept 4:15-6am. Last night he was awake from 1:30-2:30 then 4:30-5:30. Ugh. At least I was working from home today and didn't have to try pretend not to be exhausted.

I saw the health visitor today who said it's very typical for sleep to go backwards at this age and it will probably pass soon. I just hope she's right.

Mirrhi · 24/04/2014 20:37

Well, long visit from HV today, and I didn't cry well not much DP was unexpectedly home too, having been unwell at work. No massive changes in what was discussed, but agreed I need to not jump in and feed him whenever he wakes, but try to encourage him to self settle. I'm not convinced it'll work easily, and my concern has always been him waking 2 DSSs, but it's been agreed we have to try it. Also agreed for DP to try to settle him sometimes in the night. We have to pkan our strategy for tonight yet, but he's gone down half an hour ago and not woken yet which is a good start!
Also, got radio in low in the room to give him some background noise, and probably the biggest thing is that he's had some baby rice! He's 17 weeks tomorrow so it's early and I'm sure some people will leap on me saying how bad that is, but she thought it would help, and help witb his current non-pooing status. Have just given him a couple of teaspoons, mixed with some EBM, and he seemed to love it, kept opening his mouth for more!
Will report back on how the night goes...

Mirrhi · 24/04/2014 20:48

Ugh, first wake up and DP is trying to resettle him. I find it so hard not to go and help Sad

cakebaby · 25/04/2014 07:24

Well that went as expected. Ds did shouty cries for DH for 10 mins & I thought he was going off then hysterical all he'll broke lose and DH backed out. I settled him with a quick feed then hand stroking...asleep in 5 mins, little sod Grin stayed asleep for 2 hrs even through his usual 30 min cry & resettle which was unexpected. However at 1st wake refused to stay in cot and back to co sleeping. Sigh. First night time sleep in cot, grand total of 2 hrs. Is that progress?

How was everyone else's night? Welcome & commiserations new joiners (on phone so can't go back for name checks).

OP posts:
missmargot · 25/04/2014 08:11

mirrhi I sympathise, when DH tries to help I am wide listening so end up doing it myself as there's no point both of us being awake.

cakebaby I think that probably is progress if that was his first night in his cot. Well done.

Last night hit a new low as I cried on DH at 5am after his suggestion that DS was 'testing me' and I should 'leave him to cry'.

The good news is DS has a new routine, the bad news is that it involves waking at 1:30 and 4:30 on the dot without fail. Last night he added in 12:30 too just for fun. I'm 99% sure he isn't waking hungry but after me spending ages trying to settle him he becomes hungry and goes straight back to sleep after a bottle. The temptation is to just feed him as soon as he wakes, but am I encouraging the habit? I've read somewhere that waking at exactly the same time every night is out of habit rather than need so I'm hoping that by trying to settle him I can break the habit, but it is doubling the amount of time I stay awake.

keepitgoing · 25/04/2014 08:59

ditto Margot - not hungry, will settle without food sometimes but takes ages. boob takes 10 mins. I think half measures like that just make me tired and don't stop the waking so am currently feeding. dh settles her up to midnight.

keepitgoing · 25/04/2014 09:00

cakebaby that is progress! hopefully you'll just extend it, and or his first wake up will get later. Smile

missmargot · 25/04/2014 09:50

That's a good point, I'm not having any success settling him without feeding (on the odd occasion I have been successful he has gone back to sleep almost immediately) so I might as well just get the feeding over and done with. I take him into the nursery to feed as that's where the formula machine is (sadly no longer breastfeeding), keep the lights dim, no eye contact, no engaging etc. Will try that tonight and hopefully I will feel less zombie like tomorrow.

cakebaby · 25/04/2014 10:54

mirrhi hope things got better last night. Weaning made no difference to ds but I think the passage of time did Brew

miss er...yeah? for new routine? Not sure, but things are always changing with these pesky rug rats, as I'm finding out! Oh and ROAR at your dh Hmm it amuses me no end that people think tiny babies are actually Machiavellian Bond baddies who lie in their cots rubbing their hands whilst making cunning plans to test and frustrate their worn out parents.....mwahhahahahaha.....!!!!!

OP posts:
CuteLittleToes · 25/04/2014 10:56

That's good progress cake, I think if you just persevere DS will finally get used to sleeping in his cot.

My DS only managed 2h stretch once I took him to bed at 5am. The rest of the night one hourish chunks... Confused

So tired...

cakebaby · 25/04/2014 11:04

cute Brew for you, can you get any rest in the day? Bizarrely ds is currently having his longest nap ever in his cot. We're supposed to be going out in 10 mins, oh the irony! Might it be connected to his night sleep there?

OP posts:
CuteLittleToes · 25/04/2014 13:35

That's always the way, isn't it?

I can't as he only naps for 30 mins so by the time I would fall asleep he would wake up! I'll get a lie in tomorrow as DP will be home...

keepitgoing · 25/04/2014 14:35

cute that's a rough night... my dd usually does 30 mins too though recently she has sometimes pulled a longer one out. annoying - if I'd known I'd have slept!

Margot ff must be hard in the night! I'd be interested how much she takes; let us know

Mirrhi · 25/04/2014 15:46

Yeah, I too love the idea that babies are so devious and cunning, with their sole aim in life being to exhaust their mummy!
Cute you have my sympathy, 1 hour chunks are exhausting. Margot would offering a bottle with water in be an idea maybe? It's tricky isn't it, not wanting to reinforce a habit but wanting to resettle and get as much sleep as possible Confused
The night wasn't as bad as I expected, although at no point did DS go back to sleep without feeding, he just woke a little less frequently instead. DP tried twice to settle him, and he was awake again within 10 mins, so at 9 I fed him and he slept til 12! I fed again, as our aim had been to get him to go 3 hour stretches initially. He then woke at 2.30, DP tried to settle unsuccessfully so I fed at 3 but by then he was so agitated he didn't feed properly, so woke again at 4. Again, wouldn't settle as he was still hungry so fed him again, but still didn't feed properly but did go back to sleep til 6, when e actually did feed properly. Not sure if that counts as a successful night or not?

missmargot · 25/04/2014 16:06

DH and I had a Serious Chat this morning and I think he understands now, he did look suitable abashed.

I hadn't though of offering water, that's an idea. I had grand plans of BF with DS in the bedside cot to make things nice and easy at night, but a poorly DS at birth meant time in i tensile care being tube fed and a very poor latch so we had to introduce formula for weight gain and then he went off BF altogether. Thankfully we have a formula maker which makes things easier at night but it's still a huge faff.

cakebaby · 26/04/2014 09:39

off topic whinge alert too scared of AIBU

Today is a special day. I was supposed to have my first lie in for nearly 8 months. Since ds was born I have done every night waking and every morning. DH forgot and had ear plugs in so by the time I'd entertained ds for half an hour, called dh numerous times, I was wide awake and gave up. He got up after ds was washed/dressed/breakfast etc.

I'm now having a 'relaxing' bath and have been in for 10 mins. Four fucking stupid questions through the door so far,now iPod blaring his shit music right outside the door, PIL turned up, ds shrieking.

FFS Angry

cakebaby · 26/04/2014 09:43

AAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

he's now fucked off and left his music blaring.
Ds screaming with delight to backdrop of jumperoo music. Nap time in 10 mins. As if....
End of 'relaxing' bath.

OP posts:
keepitgoing · 26/04/2014 10:03

cakebaby he seriously owes you. I am Angry Angry Angry on your behalf! dh often tells me to go back to bed once I've been up an hour or so while he sleeps but it's not that easy.

grrr. men

cakebaby · 26/04/2014 10:29

Seriously, I feel like I lose perspective sometimes, but I deserve a lie in by now and that shouldn't involve having to get dh up to do it. I know he works & I'm on ml, but he's been off too for 10 days and hasn't once offered to get up with ds. He has NEVER done it. Even when i was ill in feb. When I finally ask him to get up, he forgets. Brilliant.

Woe is me.

Hello. We are back. The bloody nine month growth spurt/sleep regression/cruising round furniture phase has begun.

We've had it easy for a few weeks with only one wake up at about 5am for a feed. Now normal service has resumed and we are back to all night co-sleeping and feeding every couple of hours.

Oh the joy! At least I've been fortunate to get a few weeks respite. I really don't think any sort of sleep 'training' will make a jot of difference for us. DD2 can self settle, has decent daytime naps, eats well, has a lovely bedtime routine and goes to sleep without much fuss - sometimes fed to sleep mind. So we're just going to have to ride it out. Hoping for less than 4 months of regression this time.

Oh and she's now cruising round the furniture. Honestly, she was supposed to just sit for the first 18 months. If she walks before she has teeth I'll be raging.

soupmaker · 26/04/2014 15:03

Cake, have you poked your OH with the rod? Thanks

Cakeismymaster · 26/04/2014 18:43

Waves to soup
We have never left, it's a bit like hotel California...
Massive punch in the face to cakes DH - they just don't have a clue! I find it helps to silently plot your revenge Wink

Approx every 2 hours last night with the longest stretch from 5am to 7.45 which was a godsend.
soup did your dd crawl before she started cruising? These girls are quick off the mark, I'm only used to boys who simply sat there for 15 mths nearly and then walked !

soupmaker · 26/04/2014 19:18

Waves to CakeIs. Yes, DD2 started crawling at 7 months. She's now very speedy. DD1 didn't walk until 14 months, but I have no chance of that with DD2, she's a desperado.

cakebaby · 26/04/2014 20:58

SOUP!!!!! How the devil are you? Ummmm, nice to see you back??? As cakeis says we've been here since time began....

Fuck, nine month regression? face palm

Ds is nearly 8 months, just starting to crawl, very mobile, even night/sleep crawling WTF?

DH currently sitting up very straight and still with rod inserted at speed and with a grin.

caskeis yy to HC, except no pink champagne on ice, but I am a prisoner of my own device....

Day got no better, went out for a treat, except I drove, paid and both ds & dh fell asleep on the way home in the car. Its like a really bad joke.

Ds then wasn't tired at bedtime, crawled round cot blowing raspberries til I gave in and fed him to sleep.

Bah.
