My DS, has always gone to bed later than your normal 'average' baby- it all started when he was tiny and DP commuted and came back from work late etc etc- then dreaded reflux took hold and it was impossible for any sort of bedtime routine to be established till the reflux subsided at about 14/15 month (that was a super condensed story!)
Anyway, fast forward to now, DS is 2.1, and as a I type at 10pm, he is wide awake. bouncing around in his cot, singing dancing and generally annoying me- he's been there since 8.30pm.

He gets up at 8am every day, and generally sleep for about 2hrs in the afternoon, but sometimes he doesnt nap, and for example today it was 30 mins. its all hit and miss really. I have noticed in the past few weeks though hes been going to sleep later in the day (which I thought was why he wasn't settling so well in the evening)

Well im flummoxed and desperate for ideas. Hes not unhappy, hes quite ok singing and dancing to himself in his cot- but I cant go anywhere near upstairs- because he will start to scream and want to come out- and I know when DP gets home soon he will
1.) tell me im cruel for leaving him there
2.) go and get him and put thomas tank on (cos ive been cruel) therefore making it worse.

HELP! I dont mind 9pm asleep as I know he sleeps till 8am- but this is getting rediculous- its getting to the point that im tucked up in bed asleep while hes still awake!

any ideas?

Nova - You can give us an update at Harrogate meet up - Friday 1pm ish opposite ELC place beginning with M if I remember half correctly? You'll be (hopefully) the one looking like she's had a good nights sleep Grin

Tremendous news nova! I bet you feel like a new woman.

Well im not so sure about that, Ive just done 3 shifts at work in a row- over 30 hours! Im buggered!
DS is in bed but awake because I was late back from a job and they had to pick me up, but I know I can get his routine back tommorow no probs, it only took 2 nights last time of no napping.

The house is a tip and smells, so now Ive solved one problem is time to tackle the next.............................................

LAZY SLOB DP..... lol

Well its 10 to 8pm, and charlie has been asleep for over half an hour- how smug am I!!!

He did get up about 5.30am this am but were working on it... he also had a short nap today but thats not suprising really.

I can handle the early mornings- and Ive got ALL evening to myself! Especially seen as DP has gone to the cinema... ahh bliss.

Very pleased for you. Are you a nurse by the way?

Novacane · 07/06/2006 22:43

Not a nurse plummy, but a primary care technician (I drive a doctors car)

Oh sorry wasn't being nosy - it was the three ten hour shifts that made me ask. I do two 12.5 hr shifts and 2 7.5 hrs. Done in on thursday and just recover in time for the weekend one!

Novacane · 08/06/2006 14:33

I know what you mean plummy, it really does me in- I do them every other weekend, then the next week, i work thurs/fri and not the weekend. The weekend shifts always knock me out for a couple of days afterwards- find it reallt hard to be motivated and the 'perfect' mother in thses times.

An afternoon nap always helped! OHH NOOOOOOO! lol

Yes I know, I used to take him in bed with me and try to trick him into napping with me in the daytime. No chance!
