Helllo all,

Until recently DD (6 months) would only nap in her pram, this worked ok-ish. Now even this seems to be failing, yesterday I paced for 1.5 hours to get her to take a 30 minute nap. NOTHING gets done during the day as I am constantly entertaining her. Her night sleep was fantastic (8pm-6am, 6.30am - 8.30am!) but all went wrong at sleep regression and we now have anywhere between 2 and 6 wakings.

I worry about the lack of naps affecting her and making her miserable.

So please sign here if you too have a nap refuser, maybe we can share ideas or just support each while our houses descend into a cloud of mess, phone call go unreturned and exhaustion from street-pacing kicks in!

Morning gang

An oK night for us. Following 3 naps yesterday (well 2 catnaps and one decent nap) DD went down at 7.20 without much protest.she did a good seven hour stretch until 2.30 and then up again at 4.45 and then 7. 20 min feed back to sleep both times. Sadly I did not get to sleep til gone11 as I popped out to meet friends but that was essential for my sanity!

Really need her to drop one of the wake-ups, I don't even mind which! OH is going to take all the nights at the weekend and settle without feeding if at all possible to try and break the pattern. I am going in the spare room for some sleep! Mw ha ha. Not sure what my nap plan is today - 9am is clearly not working for us and we have a long walk at ten to sign and sing so I think I am going for a buggy nap then and on the way back and then I will try for a cot nap this afternoon.

So despite the cot nap attempts being horrendous I am sticking with it - so glad I started this thread, think I'd have given up by now otherwise!

Hope everyone else had good nights - onwards with the day's naps!

Morning all!

Feel MUCH better today but think more to do with going to bed at 9:30 than anything else.

8:00 ish bed with no complaint (!)
11:15 feed
1:30 change then settled herself (!!)
4:00 feed
7:00 feed then back to sleep in bed with me for about an hour

Chilli I am bf and I agree that may well be the issue, not taking v much at each 'sitting' during the night. I did read something online which suggested that 'sparkier' babies get distracted during their daytime feeds at this sort of age and don't take as much which might explain being hungry at night? I really don't know whether she is genuinely hungry or waking for some other reason.

Soontobe I like the 'pretending to be asleep' idea. Grin

Morning

Yesterday was a peak for total nap time, we had over 4.5 hrs, having not had this for two months (just cat napping)

Last night some triumphs and some backward steps...

I dared myself to do the bedtime routine, put her down relaxed and leave the room = silence. 19:55

She woke at 11.15 I fed her but on reflection shoudl have settled her (she hasn't been well so was giving her benefit of the doubt but she was not hungry) went straight back down.

Proper feed 02:20

Up for the day 06:45

Nap 08:15 (I saw her rubbing her eyes so started to settle her at 08:00 and after 5 mins whining...asleep for 2 hrs 15 and NO WAKING UP AFTER 40 MINS

So for me although we had two NW (and had reduced this to one feed a night the last two wks) the self settling thing for bed time and the nap this morning inc the fact it was a long nap again - is really encouraging.

In actual fact (and I dont want to make anyone jealous here) I was dressed with my make up on before 9am. Ok look I still haven't brushed my hair but still. This is two mornings in a row we have had long long naps and at this rate I might not be relying quite so much on Baptiste dry shampoo (which would be nice)

Zimm · 24/02/2011 16:50

Total nap fail today - one decent buggy name 2 x catnaps on me - 20 mins each. Could not face cot nap challenge after yesterday....

Sedgiebaby- what a result!! Maybe Vix et al are right and I need to try DD on a nap 1.5 hours after waking...

Imisssleep - are pur DC's in cahoots - mine was up at 2.20 and 4.45 as well! And she does this every night!! Tonight I am trying baby porridge....to try and dispatch the 2am wake up.

We have had 40 mins this morning in the cot and 50 mins in car / then being pushed around the park. She was still yawning when we got back but as she seemed happy enough I didn't put her down in the cot - hope this wasn't an error I'll pay for later!

Zimm I have been pretty much doing between 1.5 and 2 hours after waking and it's worked okay, but then all babies are different aren't they and you know your baby best. Anything's worth a try though, and it might take a few more very painful days before seeing results - stick with it! :)

sedgiebaby · 24/02/2011 17:35

Zimm I know she was awake long before 6.45, as I heard her shuffling about so this is partly why I put her down so early.

IMissSleep · 24/02/2011 18:22

Only managed 1.5 hour naps today.

1 Hour this morn, 30 mins at 4pm

As a result poor DS is over tired and grumpy :( Going to cuddle up in bed with him and try to get him to sleep.
Hoping he sleeps through his 2am wake up, just one night... please??!!

IMissSleep · 24/02/2011 18:59

He's sleeping!!

Right, time to get a large glass of wine before he wakes up. Might even have a long soak and hand the baby monitor to OH :)

vix206 · 24/02/2011 19:22

Ds only managed 50 mins after waking this morning! Then slept for 1.5 hours. Then had a 40 minute nap at 10, a 1.5 hour nap at lunchtime, a 40 minute nap at 4.15, then settled and asleep at 6 because he was already rubbing his eyes and yawning. I really am finding the more sleep he gets, the more he wants.

He's eaten loads today and has been really happy and calm. Hoping for another good night tonight. He's cried once - his dummy fell out - bit he didn't wake.

I'm having to keep a very close watch on him because he often surprises me by showing sleepy signs after just 1.25-1.5 hours....

Zimm I would highly recommend you just try the first nap a but earlier to see what happens, it really works well for us anyway.

Zimm · 24/02/2011 19:58

Vix remind me how old your DS is?

OP posts:
vix206 · 24/02/2011 20:44

Hes 25 weeks :)

Geordiegirl79 · 24/02/2011 21:57

Vix your nap day sounds brilliant! Loads of lovely sleep.

DD fast asleep for now and DP telling me to go to bed! Good luck all for a peaceful night :)

mamaGool · 25/02/2011 06:58

Hi ladies, I am reading your posts with great interest!

Fab result with the self-settling Sedgiebaby, you must be dead chuffed :)

My DS & I have caught the flu, so temperatures, blocked noses & lack of sleep all round :( He's been feeding loads, probably cause he's thirsty, so I'm just letting him whenever he wants to.

My parents have been here helping out over the last couple of days & between us we've managed to get him to have at least 3 naps a day, even if they are sometimes no more than 30 mins & no self-settling!

We've been really strict with bedtime & he does seem ready for it at 6.30 (post bath), but with being poorly, he is waking almost hourly to feed & I brought him in with me from 9pm last night for ease. Will make more of an effort with longer naps & maybe even cot naps once we both feel better, but I'm just not up to it at the minute...

Hope we all got a good amount of sleep last night & that today is nap-filled for you all!

IMissSleep · 25/02/2011 07:50

Not a great night.

Sleep at 7pm
feed at 10:30pm
woke at 1am and 2am
Feed at 4am
up at 6:30am

Very tired today!! Taking him to a friends today and hopefully the weather will be ok so I can take him to the park and tire him out!

Hope you had a better night than me...
pours herself a strong black coffee. And a cheeky chocolate :)

Geordiegirl79 · 25/02/2011 08:41

Oh IMissSleep that sounds rotten.

We had a better night than usual and I think it was bed at 7:30, feed at 11:30, 2:30 then she was wide awake about 6:30 ish and making odd noises (including a new screaming sound which is delightful) but we ignored that for a while then up at 7.

Geordiegirl79 · 25/02/2011 08:42

meant to give update before pressing 'send' - I was dealing with a HUGE spider upstairs and could hear DD crying on the playmat before going quiet suddenly - dashed downstairs to find her asleep face down on the mat, so have carried her upstairs for nap!

IMissSleep · 25/02/2011 08:51

He's having a nap now so managed to shower, have breakfast and put some make up on!
Feel much better, might even dry my hair... Shock

Geordiegirl79

Brave you for dealing with the huge spider, I am a wimp and would of left it for OH!!
Hoping for a better night tonight, he's teething so will give him some Calpol before bed!

:)

Zimm · 25/02/2011 08:57

Right attempting a nap now..DD has been up for 1.5 hours...uuurrghh wish me luck, I hate this....

Good luck Zimm!!

vix206 · 25/02/2011 09:34

I had 9.5 hours sleep !!!

And ds, bed at 6 (he was shattered didn't even have time to bf him!), dreamfeed at 8.30 due to lack of bed time feed. Feed at 2.15. Woke at 5am, re-settled with small feed then woke finally at 8:07!

I haven't had this much sleep since before I was 5 months pregnant!

Zimm good luck, let us know what happened with the nap.

vix206 · 25/02/2011 09:38

The amazing thing is. 10 days ago I'd have read IMissSleep's post and thought 'I wish my baby slept that well!'

The difference to my life is impossible to describe!

IMissSleep · 25/02/2011 09:45

Its amazing what a good nights sleep does isn't it?!

Long may it continue :) We have some more good nights then bad nights, but the bad nights just take there toll!

OH is doing night feeds and breakfast on Saturday, Its a huge help.

Zimm · 25/02/2011 09:47

Total nap fail, i rocked her to sleep, put her down and she woke up. I HATE THIS.
