It is time for me to stop staying up until gone midnight, farting about fruitlessly under the false pretence of "me time."

Would anyone else like to pledge? Perhaps we can nag motivate each other.

I know [shame].

It's the whole 'I can't be bothered to get ready for bed' bit that does for me. I stay up late because I can't be arsed to go through all the bedtime routines - wish I could just jaunt to bed in Tomorrow People stylee.

CJCregg · 09/02/2011 17:04

Bugger Blush

noddyholder · 09/02/2011 17:26

I am ashamed to admit this but it is only 5.30 and I am feeling that I won't be able to do it!Shock I think I am so nosey I feel I might miss something as if Jeremy Paxman is waiting on my critique

DirtyMartini · 09/02/2011 19:21

Ooh, thread has moved on.

I am fine with bedtime routines and getting into bed, but once there, I MN in the dark on iPod touch while lying down beside sleeping baby. This can go on for a long time with me kidding myself that I'm about to put the damn thing down and shut my eyes after checking ONE more thread. And then one more, etc etc etc.

We get up around 6 here so it is really silly not to prioritise sleep.

I might try switching screen off and listening to soporific podcasts with eyes shut. I'm the only adult in the bed at the moment because dp is getting over a cough that disturbs dd, so he's taking the sofa.

Anyway - see you back here at bedtime!

Teaandcakeplease · 09/02/2011 19:30

I really need to take this pledge Blush As a lone parent (since ex H went swanning (sp?) off with his 21 yr old woman), I need sleep with 2 toddlers, otherwise I'm a bear with a sore head the following day when they come bouncing in at 6.30am Blush Even more so since my son went into a bed and comes to see me in the night if he wakes Hmm

I'm already sitting here yawning and making typos as I'm so tired.

more energy... health... less irritable... better concentration... better healing... no 3-4pm slump to get over. All fine reasons for me to remove my butt from this chair by the pc and go to bed sooner Blush

geraldinetheluckygoat · 09/02/2011 20:19

ugh, I definitely need to go to bed by ten tonight. I feel like Im getting a cold, feel like rubbish....if you see me here after ten, beat me, please.

YankNCock · 09/02/2011 21:58

I've had my pajamas on since 7:30pm because DS soaked me while I was bathing him.

I'm quite tired now. I am going up to read my book and I WILL be asleep by 11pm.

I am going to hit 'post message' and then I will LEAVE the computer. I will NOT check just one more thread or look at facebook or my email. No, I won't. Nope. Going now. Really going upstairs now.

Not going to open this package my mother sent for DS either, it can wait.

I am really really going now!!

noddyholder · 09/02/2011 22:02

Okay this is your 60 (57?) minute warning.

I have brushed my teeth, done my face... Going to watch HIGNFY in my pjs with a herbal tea (first arse/sofa contact of the day) and then SWITCH OFF before Newsnight.

Okay, any loiterers or lurkers, it's lights-out time.

If you want to wrap up the day with something I suggest this poem.

Goodnight, sweet dreams, see you in the morning!

four minutes to go until the iPod is turned off ... I still don't know if I will really do it ...

Three minutes. Ok, really going now.

madamimadam · 10/02/2011 00:18

Ah. It was all going so well - and then I remembered I had to do some baking for DS's party.

And then I had to put my tuppenceworth in on here, obviously. But I felt very guilty doing it. And I feel I've let the side down.

Bah! Better luck tomorrow night. I will be wearing sackcloth and ashes.

Teaandcakeplease · 10/02/2011 07:13

Gah! My children woke at 6am. Good job I went to bed early

DirtyMartini · 10/02/2011 08:33

OK, total truth: it was about ten past/quarter past 11 when I finally shut my screen off and closed my eyes.

Was just about fully asleep when the baby had a coughing fit beside me (nothing serious, just trailing end of cold) and it took a little while to settle her because it made her cry :( -- poor bunny. However, I think I was probably asleep by 11:45, which is an improvement on recent nights!

Gonna try again tonight. Should we reconvene here at the appointed time?

DirtyMartini · 10/02/2011 08:33

oh, and PS: her next coughing fit was 5:50 AM

noddyholder · 10/02/2011 08:38

Well I did it! Dp said he came up and took my book out of my hands.Woke up at 1 for the loo though so think I need to drink less if I am to go to bed early.Feel tired today which I always do if i get lots of sleep takes a few days to settle into it! Come on everybody we can do it and assuming the rules change at weekends today is our last chance this week before sunday.

WillYouDoTheDangFanjo · 10/02/2011 08:39

madam did you watch Newsnight? Naughty! :)

Well done teaandcakeplease

Well that was a struggle! I obediently lay there in the dark, no phone, no book... no sleep.

When I turned the phone on just to check the time, it was nearly midnight. I put a very boring podcast on and listened to it very quietly on my headphones. Was asleep within 5 minutes. Good job, cos DS pulled a 3am wailing session... I managed to get straight back to sleep after that, though, which is rare for me.

I think I need to treat myself like a toddler here and be consistent, so I'll try again tonight. I do feel a shade above my usual "death warmed up" and haven't snapped at anyone during breakfast, so that's an improvement.

I will come back and say goodnight at 1030 again (even if it's empty in here!)

Hadn't thought of weekend rules...

Question time tonight aaaaaaah!!!!!!!

madamimadam · 10/02/2011 12:00

I've been too shamefaced to come onto MN until now (tho it's done my productivity wonders)

Sadly, no, Fanjo, I didn't watch Newsnight. Was too busy trying to make a brownie lactose-tolerant (God help those poor little kiddies on Saturday).

Well done everyone else though! I will steady my resolve for tonight as I do have to crack this once and for all - I just have to accept there will always be things I 'should be' doing and let go.

(DirtyMartini and Teacakes, do you think we should have a word with our DCs about giving us a lie-in? Smile)
