We got clear night on Friday but were bunged up with vile colds.

Last night not so good, of course, because I dared go out (on my own!!! to a party!!! with drinks with alcohol in and all!!!!!) and didn't got to bed till ooooh, midnight, so could have really done with 7 hours...

kaz33 · 12/10/2003 22:08

Must admit bit peeved that all the younger babies on the June/July babies thread appear to be sleeping while DS2 shows no sign of doing so

He had a terrible cold this weekend so couldn't bring myself to leave to cry in the middle of the night. Now back in our bedroom as DS1 back from grandparents, so opportunity missed for the moment.

DSaying that he is gorgeous - so he is forgiven.

codswallop · 13/10/2003 17:23

dont worry Kaz - you are welcoem on our thread.!! am now trying to cut out night feed and giving him water.. not really impressed. He is s STILl coughing all night

Codswallop - has DH gone to South Africa, I sympathise as my DP does a lot of travelling - though strangely I always find things a lot calmer when he is gone

Eeek · 13/10/2003 20:10

can I join in - my 9.5mo has been waking twice a night for the last 5 weeks after previously being a great sleeper. The little 'darling' wakes, screams for 90 mins and finally goes back to sleep leaving me and dh so wired we can't sleep ouselves. Repeat 4 hours later. Some of you have older kids don't you? Please tell me it gets better before he leaves home

codswallop · 13/10/2003 20:14

90 minutes?!!

OP posts:
codswallop · 13/10/2003 20:15

I always think that they arent reliable til they are in a bed

OP posts:
Eeek · 13/10/2003 20:16

oh, yes full scale screaming, won't be soothed, won't feed. Dr reckons there's nothing wrong, no fever etc. The funny thing is he's fine during the day. I'm a wreck but he's OK. Any ideas?

codswallop · 13/10/2003 20:18

berlimey... too hot?

night terrors are sometimes caused by overtired ness

OP posts:
Eeek · 13/10/2003 20:35

must just be you and me on here tonight!

overtiredness might be right - he's slept better duing the day today so here's hoping. I've also put him down in a cooler grobag.

Good luck for your night too!

pumpkin2 · 13/10/2003 21:22

Hi all
Codswallop, how is the water thing going for you? I had a few nights with DS (4mths) where he took sugar water for one feed, and we did manage to get down to one night feed rather than two - but he seems adamant he still wants that one - and not from a bottle either! In fact if I go near him with a bottle he screams, even if it contains expressed breast milk!

I think he could go without a night feed now - but how to convince him of this ?! Friends of mine have done it by being up with their darling babies for two hours distracting them till its time to feed anyway - maybe I'm just too lazy, mind you mine doesn't seem v distractable, just cries till he's fed.....

Suppose it is getting better tho, not so long ago he was waking 4 times a night when we were on hols and I would have given my right arm for just the one night waking!

kaz33 · 14/10/2003 08:32

Never thought of DS2 being too hot - might try less clothes tonight...

codswallop · 14/10/2003 19:31

me too pumpkin. I have tried the sugar water and then an hour later he wakes up again and wants milk, am winding down bf though(hes almost 7 months now) so that might make a diff,

I steted this at 5 and a half months.

Do you ever feel that it is just one thing after another! We went down to no feeds and then back to one feed at 4 am. Tried water but no go she wanted milk so gave in. I can cope with one feed per night.

NOW the poor little mite has had that horrible tummy bug so my house smells of sick and the washing machine is worn out. I have been up with her for the last two nights so she will probably now be used to waking up and mum coming running - so probably back to square one - sigh!

Wish I knew what I was doing. How many children do you have to have before you feel confident about what to do?

codswallop · 14/10/2003 19:51

(splutters) confident ? Just resigned to it.. Three. Its funny people with lots of kids always look comfident but (whispers) you feel just as clueless as the next person...!

The only advantage you have is perspective - you know it all ends in the end.

OP posts:
lubu · 14/10/2003 20:00

Oh that does make me feel better, at least I am not the only one. Maybe I should just start acting as if I know what I am doing. My self confidence definately got thrown out with the afterbirth

Actually the most confident mother I ever met was pregnant with her first and happily pointed out everything that I had ever done wrong and how I should have done it - hmmmmmmm!

codswallop · 14/10/2003 20:03

hope your laughted at her afterwards. tee hee.

OP posts:
lubu · 14/10/2003 20:22

No I just smiled knowingly and nodded through gritted teeth.

motherinferior · 15/10/2003 09:10

Should have resorted to giving her the baby for a couple of hours/nights IMO.

I am officially taking dd2 off the market at the moment - although I actually think she's napping a lot because she's not very well, we've all had bugs - but dd1 is debateable.

codswallop · 15/10/2003 09:32

ds3 is tolerable - one feed between 2 and three - a lot better than when this thread strarted. Have ear probs that are affecting balance at the mo so I am going to roll with it

OP posts:
kaz33 · 15/10/2003 12:51

AStill one wake up in the night, not fed - but as he has a nasty cold no tacking it at the moment. Will wait until he is better. Otherwise he is doing really well and sleeping duing the day in his cot.

lubu · 15/10/2003 20:46

She slept through until 6.ooam last night, but she has just been sick again, so will see what happens tonight. Cant' sell her at the moment, she is just too cute during the day and is so near to crawling.

codswallop · 15/10/2003 20:48

me too. I love him all day amd even at night - he just wants a quick feed and goes stright back to sleep - till 7 30 this am!! was late for school

OP posts:
kaz33 · 16/10/2003 08:14

Until 5.30am, then slept from 6.30 to 7.45am - not bad

codswallop · 16/10/2003 09:12

same here kaz.

escept 4 30 is a crap time as he thought it was am and I had to put him in with me to stop him waking the others
