Who has booked for this season and where are you going?

Thought I'd start a new thread to share excitement about getting back to the mountains.

We're off to Austria in exactly 33 days and none of us can wait. I'm perpetually excited about going, but as it draws closer even my husband keeps counting down now. Work is frantic for us both at the moment and we're both ready for the tranquility of the mountains and our only decision being where to stop for lunch.

Children have grown like weeds since our last trip though so new base layers, salopettes and jackets have been purchased. Husband grumbled that it was the 'hidden cost of skiing'.

I have booked but am probably going to cancel - very sad about it but we could use the cost of the trip elsewhere.

massistar · 18/11/2021 08:01

We've booked 2 trips. Italy at Christmas and Andorra for half term. Whole family delirious with excitement. DS has grown about half a foot since we went 2 years ago so new kit all round!

Schulte · 18/11/2021 15:22

We were also off to Austria but it’s looking increasingly unlikely… they are locking down.

LIZS · 19/11/2021 11:33

You might need to hold fire after this morning's news.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/11/2021 11:36

Kids going to Austria is looking increasingly unlikely. Anyone going is looking dodgy for that matter

turkeyboots · 19/11/2021 11:42

Hopefully France at Christmas. I did buy DS new salopettes but not buying anything else until we are in the airport as I'm worried it will get cancelled.

SW1amp · 19/11/2021 11:44

We've booked a Club Med french resort in March, but time will tell if we will make it...

Spiceup · 19/11/2021 11:50

Umm Austria?

I've been of the view that we're back to normal and that winter change now, but this last few days I think I'm probably wrong.

I won't be booking any foreign travel for the foreseeable. Even if we can travel, I don't think there'll be places to go.

SeaToSki · 19/11/2021 11:52

We ski in Maine every weekend, the resort opened this week. I cant wait. DD had new thermal underwear but still fits everything else. I am getting new skis, so hopefully I can turn a little more easily.

massistar · 19/11/2021 14:20

Very jealous @SeaToSki !!

massistar · 19/11/2021 14:21

Agree that Austria not looking good.

Numbers still low in Italy so crossing everything. We're combining the skiing with first visit to DH's family in 2 years.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 19/11/2021 14:36

Our closest ski hill has a preview this weekend. It should be fully open for the first weekend in December. Handily it’s only 35 minutes away.
I’m in the Canadian Rockies.

SeaToSki · 19/11/2021 15:50

Moose, you beat me then. You can ski after work! V nice

NotJustACigar · 19/11/2021 15:57

I'm going to France in mid-March all being well. Going with the ski gathering on one of their 50+ weeks if anyone else is a solo skier looking to join a group trip!

Heh. Austria in February. Apparently their lock down is for a maximum of 20 days! Fingers crossed.

ChrissyHynde · 19/11/2021 16:39

I understood Austria lockdown was for those people who are unvaccinated? We're booked for Xmas , but can swop/cancel up to 14 days before going . I need to get my 17 year old his 2nd jab (goes live Monday) and then good to go. The only thing that will stop us is if we have sanctions , ie quarantine, on our return

NutellaEllaElla · 19/11/2021 16:48

No they strengthened it to include the vaccinated also.

Tiggysnow · 19/11/2021 16:55

We’re going to Tignes on Saturday for the start of the season, very excited. Also first time for our 2 year old who will be having toddler lessons. Usually we are at apres, dancing on the tables every night, so going to be a big change of pace with a little one in tow!

TokyoSushi · 19/11/2021 16:57

We've got Austria booked, but not until Feb half-term, hopefully things will have improved by then...

IsThisNameTaken · 19/11/2021 17:02

Italy for Christmas (fingers crossed). Can't wait! Also had to completely re-kit DS who has grown at least a foot since Feb 2020 when we last went. Slightly nervous about the testing in resort for since vaxxed DS(14) but hoping it will work out okay.

rookiemere · 19/11/2021 17:39

Our much moved Easyjet flights (originally to Gatwick in summer 2020 for the start of a Costa Rica trip that never happened) are now sitting at Grenoble for Feb half term. We have an apartment booked at Monetier Les Bains as DH has a friend near there.
Then a long weekend for me in March to Flaine.

Beginning to have my doubts though, it's all feeling a bit 2020 ish with the Austrian lockdown. Ho hum, all moveable or cancellable.

Echobelly · 19/11/2021 17:41

We were thinking of going to Slovakia at Christmas and DH and kids skiing (not me, have a duff leg) but we've decided not to - GPs took oldest on weekend to Italy at half term and it was soooo stressful trying to ensure they'd all get there that we don't want to deal with going abroad just yet, plus it's all looking super unpredictable and increasingly like other countries will lock down even if the UK government continues to not make the slightest concession.

ChrissyHynde · 19/11/2021 17:59

I've just seen the news , full countrywide lockdown for Austria!

RhubarbFairy · 19/11/2021 19:34

Keeping everything crossed that it's only 20 days. That lifts on the 13th and we fly on the 21st.

Flights are nonrefundable so we can't do much at the moment. If it goes longer than the 13th then hopefully the airline will cancel for us. Accommodation is refundable. 100% until the 7th then 70%, 50% etc
