Who has booked for this season and where are you going?

Thought I'd start a new thread to share excitement about getting back to the mountains.

We're off to Austria in exactly 33 days and none of us can wait. I'm perpetually excited about going, but as it draws closer even my husband keeps counting down now. Work is frantic for us both at the moment and we're both ready for the tranquility of the mountains and our only decision being where to stop for lunch.

Children have grown like weeds since our last trip though so new base layers, salopettes and jackets have been purchased. Husband grumbled that it was the 'hidden cost of skiing'.

We are supposed to be going to Tignes at Easter. I was so confident booking 2021's trip straight after 2020s trip was cancelled thinking that Covid would be long gone by then Sad. This year I'm not so confident but ever hopeful it will happen.

My eldest is 11 so just escape the lack of two vaccine issue.

Fingers crossed for everyone this season!!

So sad for everyone who has cancelled.
We're crossing fingers and hoping for the best. We're travelling Dublin Geneva to ski in France and I'm pulling my hair out with juggling changes to three countries requirements. But I've got all the ski stuff out and starting packing.

It is really sad everyone cancelling, ☹️ We are planning to go to Austria (Tirol area) on 24th and changing our minds daily at the moment and it's really stressing me out! my DH is pretty laid back about it and says 'If we can go we'll go" I'm more about 'should' we go! Our Children are 8 & 7 so don't have the vaccinations/daily testing to worry about, and I think I have my head around the testing now to come back. My main anxiety is what happens if we catch it over there! Really thinking is it worth it and will we relax and enjoy once we are there!

@turkeyboots we also fly to Geneva to ski in France in a couple of days. We’ve a 12 year old and am slightly stressed. She thinks it’s worth daily testing. It’s not so much doing the tests but the possibility that they’ll be mile long queues and a nightmare to book etc.

problembottom · 15/12/2021 23:45

We have Italy booked for February with my sister and her family who live over there.

We used to do at least two ski trips a season… the desperation is real!

bestbefore · 16/12/2021 08:40

France is out then...ffs

turkeyboots · 16/12/2021 10:14

Good luck to us both NotDonna thankfully Ireland had double vaccinated all over 12s, so we don't have the daily testing to worry about. Poor DS was 12 in Oct and had an exciting birthday trip to the walk in vaccine clinic so we could be sure he was fully covered in time to go.

oneglassandpuzzled · 16/12/2021 10:17

Has anyone who’s affected by new French travel rules changed plans to go out tomorrow or today instead to avoid quarantine that’s coming in on Saturday?

NotDonna · 16/12/2021 22:02

@turkeyboots everywhere double jabs bar England (not sure about Wales tbh). Scotland double jabs with an 8 week gap. England are finally allowing a second dose but it’s a 12 week gap.

mynamesnotsam · 16/12/2021 22:25

Well supposedly France at half term. Not looking good....

RedRum27 · 20/12/2021 11:34

We are currently in Cervinia and it’s all good over here. Masks are needed on closed lifts/gondolas and it’s a bit quieter so loads of space on runs. Weather is stunning too!

Who has booked for this season and where are you going?
CruCru · 20/12/2021 11:57

I’m pretty sad this weekend. We were supposed to go to Val d’Isere over New Year with some friends who now live abroad. We’ve rebooked for half term but I have no idea whether that can go ahead.

I keep reading the ski resorts’ newsletters which say how important tourism is to the people working in the mountains.

Lovely photo, RedRum27. Do you think you’ll be able to visit Zermatt as well or is that off right now?

RedRum27 · 20/12/2021 12:21

@CruCru thank you, it’s a lovely resort. Apparently yes according to our crystal ski rep. We just have to watch out for high winds and lift closure meaning we can’t get back which we did read about before coming here but weather is so good should be fine. We did read online that we weren’t able to due to border closures but we’re going to do a day upgrade and see if it’s still a yes 🤞🏾

CruCru · 20/12/2021 13:30

How lovely. I remember doing it the other way (from Zermatt). It’s a lovely area. Cervinia had really fun, fast slopes
