Is anyone feeling nervous about their 21/22 ski trip?

I realise that I'm probably being silly. I fully recognise that covid has made me a bit irrationally anxious about crowds, busy places, etc. So on that note... We have a large and normally busy resort in France booked (booked pre covid and shifted from last year to this). We're going to a catered chalet with DH's family which includes his child free siblings who will want to go out partying.
I'm a bit worried about ski resorts being covid hotbeds this winter (remembering Whistler last year) and what will happen if we end up with it - we won't be able to travel home presumably so where will we stay? Not to mention the possibility of actually getting ill, though DH and I are both vaccinated so I know that's unlikely.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is having similar thoughts or if I'm being really foolish.

@reallyagain

650above are you sure the 3rd dose needs to be 2 months after 2nd dose? Europe aren't doing that?
3rd dose has to be between 5 and 7 months after 2nd. The pass is deactivated 7 months after 2nd dose if you don't have booster
650above · 25/11/2021 16:42

@reallyagain Sorry, that was really badly written. Everyone over 18 is entitled to a booster five months after your second jab and if you don't get it within 2 months, the pass sanitaire becomes invalid.

@Caspianberg

Party venues won’t be open. It’s the same in France/ Austria/ Switzerland/ Italy. Most restaurants will be table service sit down only, so just sitting with who you go there with. In resort actual clubs will either be closed or you have to take additional covid tests that for valid only 24hrs to atttend.

Where I live gondolas and chair lifts can only be used with covid passport ie double vaccinated only. Anyone over 6 years who isn’t vaccinated will need to be tested regularly to use lifts.

Do you know the ruling for chairlifts for single vaccinated teenagers?
Havanananana · 25/11/2021 21:38

In Austria the current rule for single vaccinated teenagers is that they cannot use the lifts (gondolas, cabins or chairlifts). Children aged 11 and under are not subject to this rule (but from age 6 they must wear a mask).

Austrian teenagers are regularly tested at school and have also mainly had 2 vaccine doses, but if they haven't, then their school testing pass ("Ninja Pass") still gives them access to the ski lifts.

Currently for non-Austrian visitors, this is all a bit academic, as all tourist accommodation is closed until at least mid-December. As the infection rate and the number of patients in ICU continues to rise it is debatable whether or not the restrictions on tourist accommodation will be lifted at the end of the 20-day lockdown.

Well if that doesn’t change then I can’t see school wanting to take 80 teenagers for a ski trip there in April…. Just hope we get money back if they can still go, just not use the lifts which totally defeats the object
Havanananana · 26/11/2021 08:15

@User2638483

Use of the lifts is not going to be the main issue if the rules remain as they are now. Right now the unvaccinated teens cannot enter hotels and cafes (because these are closed) but once the restrictions are lifted, hopefully in December, the "2G" rule will still apply. "2G" means double vaccinated or proof of recovery, so single vaxxed teens would still not be able to use hotels, cafes and ski lifts.

reallyagain · 26/11/2021 08:57

Unless you can show a positive pcr test within the last 180 days (may apply to a fair few teenagers given the wave in October)

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/11/2021 09:04

The masks on lifts rule...

Would the neck warmers you pull up over your face count? I'm planning for my 8&10yos in ski school here (Andorra).

Also... am I the only person checking rates daily? We leave in three weeks. Have to transit through France (although Crystal has apparently said they will move the flights to Spain if necessary...)

poshme · 26/11/2021 09:10

@Aroundtheworldin80moves according to some French websites the answer is no- they have to be certified masks.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 26/11/2021 09:11

Definitely using glove cords this year then!

rookiemere · 26/11/2021 09:13

I've mentally written off our French Feb half term ski trip with DS 15 unless we can get him double vaccinated before then.

I could just about cope with getting him tested at the pharmacy every 3 days, but every day is just too much - and even if tests are 25 euros, still adds up to the cost of the thing.

We've booked independently so I just need to cancel the accommodation and move the flights , but I wonder how the likes of Crystal or Inghams will view this. We have friends due to go to France for Christmas skiing with teens.

650above · 26/11/2021 09:14

Some ski stations are already selling neck warmers and buff certifed for use

Really hoping UK start to do 2nd vaccine for teenagers in next couple of months

poshme · 26/11/2021 09:35

@reallyagain even if they are double jabbed, there is currently no way of proving it.
My teens have had covid, and 1 jab, so under French rules they should be able to get a pass sanitaire.
But I can't get proof from anywhere.

reallyagain · 26/11/2021 09:52

poshme can you get them added to your nhs app? I have my 13yo on mine

How did you get this? Was it through your GP? Thanks
NinnyNewName · 26/11/2021 10:01

You can add a linked profile on thr NHS I have just discovered. You need to contact your GP first. I'll do that today.

We fly to La Rosiere on 21st December with Esprit. Not heard a peep yet.

rookiemere · 26/11/2021 10:09

Trouble is @reallyagain there's no real medical benefit of double dosing teenagers, and even I think the government has more to worry about than the plight of UK skiers with teens ( even though I myself am one).

reallyagain · 26/11/2021 10:29

Some sources are saying it's being de prioritised currently given the lower marginal benefit, pending booster rollout which now is well underway

poshme · 26/11/2021 10:33

My GP refuses to add them to my app.
Angry

reallyagain · 26/11/2021 10:50

That's irritating! I've seen people say they've got a GP letter evidencing first vaccine/prior infection. Or if they refuse that you can actually ask for their medical records as a GDPR request.

Alternatively I've read you can get a private GP certificate - around £90 but cheaper than daily tests

Caspianberg · 26/11/2021 11:02

For Austria
www.austria.info/en/service-and-facts/coronavirus-information/ski-winter-holidays

It basically says 2g everywhere. Under 12 exempt. Over 12 ‘ still working on a solution’

Ps snow is falling right now in Austria, first thick snow of the season. Hopefully good conditions for those aiming for an early Christmas ski.

massistar · 26/11/2021 12:43

I've got the record for my daughters's vaccine and her positive test from my GP. Seems really hot and miss as to the response!

artquejtion · 28/11/2021 00:21

Switzerland is off the map now Sad.

Anyone arriving from UK has to quarantine for 10 days, aghhhhh.

balzamico · 28/11/2021 00:26

My trip to France via Geneva at the end of January looks really dodgy and tbh I'm not really holding out much hope for my trip with 14 yr old singly vaccinated ds any more either 😢.
Two days ago, I was looking forward to both of them "sigh"
