Is anyone feeling nervous about their 21/22 ski trip?

I realise that I'm probably being silly. I fully recognise that covid has made me a bit irrationally anxious about crowds, busy places, etc. So on that note... We have a large and normally busy resort in France booked (booked pre covid and shifted from last year to this). We're going to a catered chalet with DH's family which includes his child free siblings who will want to go out partying.
I'm a bit worried about ski resorts being covid hotbeds this winter (remembering Whistler last year) and what will happen if we end up with it - we won't be able to travel home presumably so where will we stay? Not to mention the possibility of actually getting ill, though DH and I are both vaccinated so I know that's unlikely.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is having similar thoughts or if I'm being really foolish.

The above is for France only.

Bugger! Due to go to Italy on 19th Dec with DS 14 (single vax). Am I reading it right that you can't get a super green pass for a single vax teen? So he can't go in restaurants or on a ski lift?

Rollergirl11 · 25/11/2021 15:16

Rates in France yesterday are now 189 not 129.

Bratnews · 25/11/2021 15:26

The change to daily tests was announced today (and will impact our single vaccinated teens) - the ski companies still need to update their websites to reflect the changes. The changes are summarised in English on this site:

For restaurants you need a Super Green Pass, for ski lifts etc an ordinary Green Pass as long as the zone is a white zone So for the ski place testing will be OK.

thanks @PAFMO - it's all very confusing!!

"Tests for unvaccinated people with no symptoms cost €22 for an antigen test and €44 for a PCR test."

Taken from the French website linked below. I'm being dim but I'm assuming we can buy the €22 antigen tests in the pharmacies? The pharmacist has to carry it out presumably?

It is. I'm in Italy and completely missed this on the news! Here's the summary of it all: www.wantedinrome.com/news/super-green-pass-italy-tightens-covid-rules-for-unvaccinated.html

We've booked skiing in Switzerland the week before Christmas. Slightly in hope as the rules for single vaxxed 12-15 year olds looked less onerous than in France.

Does anyone know whether Switzerland has announced any likely new restrictions for the ski season?

TokyoSushi · 25/11/2021 15:50

We've got Austria booked for February, fortunately, DC are 8 & 10 so don't really fall into a vaccine category. I'd say it's about 50/50 at best.

Bratnews · 25/11/2021 15:58

Oppsina here is the text:
A further change to the health pass was announced – negative Covid tests will be valid for the pass only for 24 hours. Unvaccinated people are able to use a negative test – either a PCR or antigen test – in order to access the pass. At present a test is valid for the pass for 72 hours, but now will only be valid for 24 hours, meaning that unvaccinated people face daily tests in order to use the pass. Tests for unvaccinated people with no symptoms cost €22 for an antigen test and €44 for a PCR test.
Masks will become again compulsory in all indoor spaces – even those covered by the health pass such as cinemas, theatres, tourist sites, bars, cafés, night clubs and restaurants. For venues like bars and restaurants the previous mask rules will be reinstated – a mask is required while moving through the venue but not when seated and eating or drinking
Masks will also become compulsory for large gatherings outdoors, such as Christmas markets, which could also require a health pass.

The Swiss have a referendum coming up soon (Sunday) on the validity of their covid laws, at the moment their covid pass will apply only to 16+ and the rules are relatively limited in scope, masks etc. Any changes will not be proposed until after then, because they do not want to jeopardise the outcome of the referendum confirming the validity of the covid measures.

So in France now:

  • You need a 3rd dose within two months of your second for the passe sanitaire to be active. This is for all over 18s from Jan 15, it already applies to 65+.
  • Tests only valid for 24 hours, whether antigene or pcr (all tests in France need to be done by a professional, no self testing valid for passe sanitaire)
  • Masks indoor and outdoor when crowded (i.e. walking on busy streets, in queues for lifts, at markets)

Practically, I would say there will be testing tents set up in resorts where you get easily tested. So if you are bringing kids with only one jab or without a QR code, they will need to test everyday to ski and eat out (€22 per antigene test).

In terms of checking the passes, this will be done in ticket offices and at the initial lifts and probably spot checks on the mountain. Plus in ski school for the kids. Generally they will fine people who don't comply and there are heavy penalities for faking or using someone elses code.

abc345 · 25/11/2021 16:06

abricotine thank you, that's very helpful

As per @abricotine, Swiss are holding off on any announcement until after the referendum on Sunday.

However, considering they stayed open for last ski season when all surrounding countries shut for ski tourists, I am really hoping they do the same this year.

reallyagain · 25/11/2021 16:30

650above are you sure the 3rd dose needs to be 2 months after 2nd dose? Europe aren't doing that?

JeremiahObadiahJackanoryJonez · 25/11/2021 16:30

We’re meant to be going to France on 27 Dec. Of our group only 2 will have had boosters and 3 are aged 12-15 so single vaccinated. Wondering why we ever thought it would be a good idea to book!!

Rollergirl11 · 25/11/2021 16:36

So the school ski trip for 80+ Year 11 15/16 year olds in 3 weeks is looking very very doubtful! 🤦‍♀️

Rollergirl11 · 25/11/2021 16:38

To France that is. It’s already been moved from Austria just 2 weeks ago. Think it’s safe to say we are running out of options!
