Is anyone feeling nervous about their 21/22 ski trip?

I realise that I'm probably being silly. I fully recognise that covid has made me a bit irrationally anxious about crowds, busy places, etc. So on that note... We have a large and normally busy resort in France booked (booked pre covid and shifted from last year to this). We're going to a catered chalet with DH's family which includes his child free siblings who will want to go out partying.
I'm a bit worried about ski resorts being covid hotbeds this winter (remembering Whistler last year) and what will happen if we end up with it - we won't be able to travel home presumably so where will we stay? Not to mention the possibility of actually getting ill, though DH and I are both vaccinated so I know that's unlikely.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is having similar thoughts or if I'm being really foolish.

… which by then will have been 5-6 months before

OhCobblers · 25/11/2021 12:31

@abricotine

Seems a determination for France to carry on as normal but without two jabs (or ability to prove it) or your second jab is 7 months+ old then you will need to pay for a daily test to eat out, use pools, check into many hotels, and most likely, use a ski lift.
@abricotine You say "daily" test. Has that changed from recent news of testing every 72 hours within resort to use bars restaurants etc?
Bratnews · 25/11/2021 12:33

Just saw the news update - considering the practicalities of a daily covid test for 3 teens. Think we will cancel

Bratnews · 25/11/2021 12:34

@OhCobblers they have just announced daily testing

rookiemere · 25/11/2021 12:59

Every day ? That sounds fun. May look at moving flights on to 2023 then, surely the world will have gone back to normal by then ?

AppleTree16 · 25/11/2021 13:00

France has just announced that from the 15th Jan everyone will need a booster jab for their health pass to be valid. (It’s over 65s from the 15th December). Not sure whether that will apply to international travellers and assume there will be testing instead for double vaxxed. We’re due back on the 16th Jan so hopefully won’t be too affected.

rookiemere · 25/11/2021 13:02

@Bratnews do yo have a link to the daily testing requirement please? Want to show to DH so we can consider options.

Notstrongandstable · 25/11/2021 13:14

So have I got this right for France. DC 10 yo nothing required, holiday as normal indoors. DC 14 with one vax..PCR required before going and then testing in resort to access indoor restaurants etc..do they need testing to access ski lifts and does anyone know how frequent?
Thanks

OhCobblers · 25/11/2021 13:21

Each traveller aged 12 and over must present a negative PCR test taken less than 72 hours before departure or a negative antigenic test taken less than 48 hours before departure.

This was taken from
www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/en/coming-to-france/coronavirus-advice-for-foreign-nationals-in-france/

I keep reading on some sites that it has to be a test taken in the previous 24 hours to departure (cutting it very fine to get a result?). Can anyone clarify?

Apparently not for ski lifts but I think need to wear mask

I can't see the update saying daily testing for access to restaurants?!
Notstrongandstable · 25/11/2021 13:27

Thanks OhCobblers
Gawd it all seems way too much hassle, not to mention the cost!

Geamhradh · 25/11/2021 13:37

@OhCobblers

Presumably as long as your teens still test , and get a negative, every 72 hours whilst on holiday, you can still enter restaurants, bars, etc?
The Super Green Pass is only from 6/12-15/1 to make sure that the Christmas period can be enjoyed more safely. So if you're on holiday outside of those dates, (or ski resorts) the normal Green Pass (which includes testing as an alternative) will continue. I suppose if numbers rise, then the SGP will be extended.
Geamhradh · 25/11/2021 13:38

*in Italy obvs

OhCobblers · 25/11/2021 13:41

@Geamhradh we're going to France immediately after Xmas!

notimagain · 25/11/2021 13:51

@Bratnews

Does anyone have an idea of what France is looking like - we are supposed to be going just after Christmas but the teens have only have one vaccination - hopefully it will be no worse that testing in resort but worry that it will change.
The numbers aren’t great. What I write next is to be confirmed but the real kicker for holidaymakers with teenagers is that it was announced earlier that in the context of passe sanitaire a negative PCR test will only have 24 hour validity, not 72.

Because UK rates were so high, in the summer the rules were 24h - as they now are for large swathes of Europe. The FCDO still says 24h www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france/entry-requirements but admit I can't find the special rules in the amber country section in the link you posted, any more either!
abricotine · 25/11/2021 13:54

@notimagain now confirmed, Olivier Véran announced it, tests only have 24h validity for passe sanitaire

rookiemere · 25/11/2021 13:55

@notimagain do you mean a negative LFT rather than a PCR ? Somewhat irrelevant as we're not going if DS15 needs to get tested daily, what a huge faff and that frequency is just asking for a false positive with all the issues that would cause.

abricotine · 25/11/2021 13:56

Passe sanitaire was announced some time ago by the French PM as applying to ski lifts once the rates went over 200/100,000. They will do that this week but just waiting for formal confirmation

oopsinamechangedagain2021 · 25/11/2021 14:14

We're going to France soon too and have an over 12... aargh! Currently you don't need Pass Sanitaire for lifts but if cases go over 200 per 100,000 people then you will. Cases are very likely to go over this amount.

Info from here...

planetski.eu/2021/11/22/france-confirms-rules-for-ski-resorts/

Passe sanitaire is required for restaurants etc for everyone over 12. LFTs are valid for 24 hours and PCRs for 72hours. So PCRs are the cheapest option and the least hassle. I think the PCR will need to be taken a day before the previous PCR runs out so that there is no lapse in cover. This is all from the Crystal Ski website, though it doesn't say anything about taking the test before it runs out, I was just thinking about it.

Rollergirl11 · 25/11/2021 14:35

I can’t see anything about teens needing daily tests either. Has it been announced today?

abricotine · 25/11/2021 14:48

Latest info: www.gouvernement.fr/info-coronavirus/pass-sanitaire

Fairylights25 · 25/11/2021 14:53

Our NY ski trip has just cancelled, which is just as well as my dc have had covid and can't have a vaccine anyway. So we wouldn't be able to do anything anyway. Looking into Sweden now, as it seems to the only country that is properly open and unlikely to go into a lockdown. The ski season in the rest of Europe now looks doomed. There is no point in going at all unless we can enjoy it as it is SO expensive this year.

They don't need daily tests (or 72 hour PCRs) at the moment for the ski lifts, only hotels/restaurants. But it's likely teens and adults will need negative tests/pass sanitaire to use the lifts when cases reach 200 per 100,000. Cases are currently 129/100000. Info here...
