Is anyone feeling nervous about their 21/22 ski trip?

I realise that I'm probably being silly. I fully recognise that covid has made me a bit irrationally anxious about crowds, busy places, etc. So on that note... We have a large and normally busy resort in France booked (booked pre covid and shifted from last year to this). We're going to a catered chalet with DH's family which includes his child free siblings who will want to go out partying.
I'm a bit worried about ski resorts being covid hotbeds this winter (remembering Whistler last year) and what will happen if we end up with it - we won't be able to travel home presumably so where will we stay? Not to mention the possibility of actually getting ill, though DH and I are both vaccinated so I know that's unlikely.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is having similar thoughts or if I'm being really foolish.

Well done getting to Andorra!
I see Germany has banned U.K. tourists now. I’m praying Italy doesn’t follow France & Germany as we are due to fly out on Tuesday. It’s such a rollercoaster and will we won’t we.

NotDonna · 19/12/2021 16:21

@Aroundtheworldin80moves what do you mean by ‘COVID passport’? The nhs one? I’ve got the French one too as we were going to France. Doesn’t look like Italy has one. Haven’t deleted the French one as it’s easier to access than nhs vaccine info.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/12/2021 16:22

Just the NHS one. They scan the QR code and it flashes up with your name. (Weve been warned you may need pgoto ID as well).

NotDonna · 19/12/2021 16:35

When you say you need it everywhere, are you meaning ski lifts? Or just restaurants and hutties? Not too sure I want to carry passport everywhere.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/12/2021 16:41

Not 100 percent on ski lifts. But so far hotel, ski hire shop, airport, restaurant... pretty sure gondola requires it.

NCTDN · 19/12/2021 16:48

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Sat in hotel bar in Andorra! I honestly never expected to make it.
Where in Andorra are you?
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/12/2021 17:41

@NCTDN we are in Arinsal.

Yeah would expect all those really. I’m hoping it’s not every time we get on a lift but if it means we get there and we can ski then that’s absolutely fine. I’ve fingers and toes crossed we make actually make it. So worried that Italy will make an announcement like France & Germany. Kids are already packed.
OhCobblers · 19/12/2021 18:50

@NotDonna
Fingers crossed that you get out there before any changes!
I'm sitting here still feeling really gutted that we didn't persevere with Italy. But was still too tricky with two single vac teens who haven't had Covid. I was so looking fitted to being away in the alps for Xmas. We've always spent Xmas at home which I was getting rather fed up with!
Have booked for Easter and truly hope that works out. This is the third ski trip that's been moved!

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

For anyone else who makes it... have your Covid passport downloaded to your phone home screen. You need it constantly!
Or print out the PDF and have those accessible if you don't want to be faffing around with the phone every time you go in somewhere!

12 year old is getting second vaccine Wednesday - what’s our chances of getting away in January - either Italy or Austria ?? Just hoping they don’t start locking down (or stopping UK citizens travelling ! Getting fed up of booking a holiday to have to get a refund two weeks later !

On the current rules the 12 year old would need a negative PCR to enter Austria (as would not have had the booster), but then would be fine once there to use ski lifts, restaurants etc. But I'm afraid that a lot could change by January!
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/12/2021 20:57

Remember to leave the 14? Day gap for the injection to be considered official.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 19/12/2021 21:10

Under current Austrian rules there is no need to leave a 2 week gap after the second dose:

"2-dose-vaccinations are valid for 270 days after the second dose. After that a booster jab is required, which is also valid for 270 days."

We're supposed to be going to France on 8th January to go skiing in Morzine. Half the party are driving down and the other half are flying via Geneva. What do you think the chances are if I ur trip going ahead? We are all double vaxxed adults so at least we don't have the nightmare of travelling with teens. Thinking of all in the same boat Sad

I'm in Morzine now. We arrived Thursday. It's pretty quiet. We have to show passes in restaurants. Snoods are fine on lifts. Our chalet is gutted as they are now almost empty for Christmas and new year. They are hoping rules will change again soon. We fly back tonight so hope there's no issue then.

Three weeks time? Given the ex-UK restrictions only came in Sat AM and restrictions are generally slow to relax my gut feeling is sadly your chances are slim and a lot depends on the evolution of the epidemic in France & the UK over the next week….fingers crossed I guess.

As an aside for those that are in France/might actually get here at some resorts Gendarmes have been deployed to perform spot checks of the pass sanitaires…make sure you carry your phone/make sure the battery is up to the cold!

Feeblebeeble · 20/12/2021 11:59

@sandycloud - well jell! Hope you get home safely
@notimagain - sadly I think you're right. I'm not feeling too hopeful Sad

We’ve just had Co formation that our holiday in cancelled and full refund within 14 days of departure date. Gutted but also relieved!

Schulte · 20/12/2021 17:43

Just wanted to report back, we’re currently skiing in Austria. Not sure how we will get back but we’re enjoying this while it lasts!

NCTDN · 20/12/2021 21:02

@JeremiahObadiahJackanoryJonez what date should you have been going?

JeremiahObadiahJackanoryJonez · 20/12/2021 22:24

27 Dec - next Monday

sandycloud · 21/12/2021 07:33

Just to let people know we got back last night. Only a handful of flights leaving Geneva. Flight half full. They checked our passenger locator forms and lateral flow tests at check in and all passed. The forms take ages to fill in though. I hope some of you get to go. It's so stressful trying to work out everything and then not really knowing what will happen. Our chalet wanted us to stay for Christmas as they are almost empty now. But I have a freezer full of food. Off for pcr tests now this morning!!!!

mnp321 · 21/12/2021 07:54

Really pleased to hear of good trips. There's so many airmiles flights available that my kids want us to reschedule our trip to Switzerland to just after Christmas (we were due to return on the 24th before my son got covid).

The snow looks good but i can't help but feel the chance of further restrictions imposed by the U.K. and Switzerland are a big risk. Also I can't work out whether the son that had covid is exempt from Swiss testing (I think he isn't although his LFTs are now negative). Sadly it's the last chance for this year as my son has A level mocks and exams after half term and Easter. Bloody covid!
