Is anyone feeling nervous about their 21/22 ski trip?

I realise that I'm probably being silly. I fully recognise that covid has made me a bit irrationally anxious about crowds, busy places, etc. So on that note... We have a large and normally busy resort in France booked (booked pre covid and shifted from last year to this). We're going to a catered chalet with DH's family which includes his child free siblings who will want to go out partying.
I'm a bit worried about ski resorts being covid hotbeds this winter (remembering Whistler last year) and what will happen if we end up with it - we won't be able to travel home presumably so where will we stay? Not to mention the possibility of actually getting ill, though DH and I are both vaccinated so I know that's unlikely.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is having similar thoughts or if I'm being really foolish.

I wonder if Crystal are doing some wishful thinking as they will lose s lot of money?

IsThisNameTaken · 16/12/2021 15:30

I think so! They seem to be concentrating on cancelling the French holidays and probably hoping there may be a miracle for Andorra ...

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/12/2021 15:37

Maybe trying to reroute through Spain?

trumpisagit · 16/12/2021 15:40

I think our hope of skiing is for Easter, not a lot of chance for an enjoyable holiday before then, as far as I can see.

Thunderpunt · 16/12/2021 15:41

@Doubleraspberry

Our need to drive through France for 60 mins to get to our holiday is now a massive pain! Not till Feb though.
Same..... arghhhhhhh
IsThisNameTaken · 16/12/2021 15:52

@Aroundtheworldin80moves that's exactly what they're doing - but doesn't work for single vaccinated teens as they're not allowed into Spain at all I think!

Hophop26 · 16/12/2021 16:23

@OhCobblers @NotDonna

We rebooked with Crystal for la thuile, flights are Sunday and there seemed to be lots of flight availability. Prices hugely slashed as well plus Crystal sent me a discount code in the cancellation email for ur France booking this morning. So decided it was worth the risk and if Italy do the same that France has for by Sunday we will get this refunded too

Our kids are under 12 though so Italy is easier for us and very similar to what french rules were until today

Hophop26 · 16/12/2021 16:25

Next back up if Italy ban auk by Sunday will be Austria, as they are Monday flights for Crystal

Then il give up! If it wasn’t Christmas I would have given up today

NotDonna · 16/12/2021 17:10

Having a partially vaccinated 12 year old is very difficult indeed!! I can’t even prove her 1st dose.

If the French won’t agree to some bespoke arrangement and Andorra will still let the Brits in then via Spain would be the obvious choice.

Barcelona > Andorra is probably the easiest road connection but there are other options (e.g. Reus, Girona)…The airlines involved might have to do a bit of schedule rejigging but hopefully somebody will come up with something for you….

NinnyNewName · 16/12/2021 17:47

We've heard from Esprit and are taking the refund option. This trip was cancelled from last Christmas. The 'kids' are now almost 19 and almost 17. Time to move on to something different.

Good luck to all those who haven't given up hope. I feel so gutted, but also relievd in a way that at least a decision has been made.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/12/2021 18:13

We apparently have new flights to Barcelona

Bet that’s a relief….hope you enjoy the snow…we had just a bit in the Pyrenees last week and the resorts have had a good start to the season…hope that continues..

To be honest it doesn't feel like a holiday. Its just one stress after another. Passports. Tests. Rerouting flights. Masks everywhere. I don't even ski

I was moaning in my other thread about how we might not be able to go skiing again. I am actually thinking perhaps now is not the right time anyway!
mnp321 · 17/12/2021 07:31

I'm crossing my fingers that someone on this thread navigates the many obstacles and gets their Christmas ski trip!

thillanddale42 · 17/12/2021 07:52

Really hard for the one vaccined 12-15 year olds - Italy have enforced now their super green pass for the ski resorts and Switzerland their 2g/3G thing so unless you are either vaxxed or recovered with certificate there is no skiing happening….. was churning my way through the sites trying to understand the rules and then just shut the laptop and gave up! Any snow in Scotland ?😉

@thillanddale42 I thought in Italy it depended on the zone so if in a white zone you could ski with a green pass but not enter , restaurants etc? If a yellow zone then only super green pass would do?
thillanddale42 · 17/12/2021 08:45

This was on the Crystal website last night and then when I dug deeper it seems that they were imposing super green on the lifts when i looked on Aosta Valley tourist board site Confused- its a minefield. It's like some completely screwed up awful flow chart that just comes up with 'UK SKIERS STAY AT HOME ' !!!!!

We're aware that the Italian government has announced a 'super green pass'. This means that everyone aged 12 and over needs to show proof that they're fully vaccinated or that they've fully recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months to enter most enclosed public spaces in Italy – like restaurants, bars and some forms of public transport. This pass will be in place from 6 December 2021 to 15 January 2022. We'll be in touch with customers directly to discuss their options.

The ‘super green pass’ is very confusing as the hotels in Italy don’t seem to know if it includes them or not. After France cancelled, we booked Italy (we’ve a 12 yr old partially vaccinated). The club med website said their Italian resorts accepted a negative test. So we booked. Then logging into the app it mentions the resort requires a ‘super green pass’. We called the actual resort and they simply didn’t know. Asked to email them but received an ‘out of office’. At the moment our family of 5 are booked but I’m wanting clarification before we rock up and are told our 12yr old can’t stay.
If push comes to shove, I’ll stay home with the 12 year old and my DH can take the older fully vaccinated teens. Xmas apart will be weird but possibly better than the 5 of us being grumpy at home.

Finland are bringing in a requirement for a pre-entry test from 21 December. valtioneuvosto.fi/en/-/1410869/passengers-arriving-from-third-countries-who-have-received-a-full-course-of-vaccination-required-to-carry-proof-of-a-negative-covid-19-test-as-of-21-december

The border service site says that it can be LFT or PCR raja.fi/en/guidelines-for-border-traffic-during-pandemic

IsThisNameTaken · 17/12/2021 11:59

@NotDonna we were supposed to be going to Italy until super green pass was introduced - as I understand it you can check into hotels (and use their restaurant and bar etc) with just a negative test if not fully vaxxed as long as the hotel is for guests only and isn't open to non-residents. You can't eat indoors in other restaurants or use covered ski lifts.

NotDonna · 17/12/2021 12:15

Oh that’s great info thank you!!

I am flying tonight! Scarcely can believe it's happening after the past few weeks!
