Is anyone feeling nervous about their 21/22 ski trip?

I realise that I'm probably being silly. I fully recognise that covid has made me a bit irrationally anxious about crowds, busy places, etc. So on that note... We have a large and normally busy resort in France booked (booked pre covid and shifted from last year to this). We're going to a catered chalet with DH's family which includes his child free siblings who will want to go out partying.
I'm a bit worried about ski resorts being covid hotbeds this winter (remembering Whistler last year) and what will happen if we end up with it - we won't be able to travel home presumably so where will we stay? Not to mention the possibility of actually getting ill, though DH and I are both vaccinated so I know that's unlikely.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is having similar thoughts or if I'm being really foolish.

@OhCobblers this is from the BBC though:

"Once in France, they will have to self-isolate for a week, but that period of quarantine can be ended after 48 hours if they have a second negative test once in France."

@BlackLambAndGreyFalcon thanks yes I saw that. France def a no go now but thinking the travel agent could move us to Italy?

@BlackLambAndGreyFalcon

"Once in France, they will have to self-isolate for a week, but that period of quarantine can be ended after 48 hours if they have a second negative test once in France."

This applies to people who are permitted to travel from the UK to France - e.g. the thousands of French citizens resident in the UK who would be travelling home to France for Christmas and New Year.

British citizens who do not fulfil one of the conditions for entry will not be allowed to enter France.

As for entering via Geneva - I think that the French border agents will be alert to this and can't see it being possible, particularly if an Entry Form has to be completed on which you state where you have been for the last 10 days.

NotDonna · 16/12/2021 10:14

Same position here. France is a no no as the hurdles are for French nationals not British tourists. Brit tourist totally banned.
We are also flying to Geneva so querying if Switzerland an option. But Swiss need 4 day test. Do worry about being caught there too.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/12/2021 10:19

I'm guessing Andorra will be out. Crystal saying they will contact customers shortly.

Fingers crossed for you..

Obviously (?] Andorra set their own rules and the ski operators could possibly reroute those bound for Andorra through Spain (e.g. Barca) rather than going through France (Toulouse).

@OhCobblers we are now thinking Italy. Still entering via Geneva with 48hr PCRs for over 16’s - nothing needed for under 16’s. Italy need ‘Green Pass’ but looks like fully vaccinated ok & our 12yr old needs 48hr LFT for Italy instead of the 24hr one for France. Dare I say it’s similar to the French but 48hr rather than 24hr. At the moment 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

@NotDonna yes I thought similarly with restrictions but my only confusion is can the teens access bars/restaurants inside with green pass rather than super green? I read on website that they couldn't??

Waiting for agent to call back but they're calling customers in order of flights and who knows if they will have anything available by the time they get to us?!

OhCobblers · 16/12/2021 12:08

@NotDonna DH also worried that Italy might go the same way as France ?!

Someone on snowheads reporting that Crystal are saying Andorra (via Toulouse) still going ahead - transitting through France for less than 24 hours may be allowed apparently.

Italy have the Super Green Pass until mid January .... you can't get one by testing, only being fully vaxxed or proof of recovery.

Clymene · 16/12/2021 12:42

I would not bank on being allowed in at all, even for transit

OhCobblers · 16/12/2021 12:43

@IsThisNameTaken so no chance of the teens gaining access to restaurants etc? Only open ski lifts?

IsThisNameTaken · 16/12/2021 12:59

Yes, I think they are ok for all ski lifts (as long as skiing in a 'white' area) but can't eat indoors in a restaurant.

Doubleraspberry · 16/12/2021 13:46

Our need to drive through France for 60 mins to get to our holiday is now a massive pain! Not till Feb though.

Hophop26 · 16/12/2021 13:53

We have rebooked to go to Italy instead, I checked the entry requirements before booking but not the snow reports so much! I have a feeling we may not have much snow and far less than we would have been enjoying next week in France!

NotDonna · 16/12/2021 13:57

@Hophop26 same! Do you have partially vaccinated teens?

NotDonna · 16/12/2021 14:13

@IsThisNameTaken a ‘white’ area? What does that mean? We were told that no one needs a green pass for the ski lifts. We are vaxxed bar our partially vaxxed 12 yr old.

IsThisNameTaken · 16/12/2021 14:19

Scroll down to 'Accessing Ski Lifts' here www.skiclub.co.uk/info-and-advice/covid-restrictions-202122/italy and there's a link to tell you which areas are white/orange/red (although pretty much everywhere seems to be white)

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 16/12/2021 14:24

Open lifts might be ok, what about the cabins though?

NotDonna · 16/12/2021 14:26

Ah found the white, yellow, orange zone info. Looks like it’s only the coveted lifts in the orange zone where super green passes required and there’s no orange zones at the moment as far as I could tell anyway.

OhCobblers · 16/12/2021 15:01

@Hophop26 do you mind me asking where you've rebooked? Just wondering where to concentrate our efforts on availability?

The only mention of transits being allowed is in the context of transfer at international airports…

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/12/2021 15:17

DH finally got through to holiday company and they don't know if we can go to Andorra or not...

That's interesting - at the moment Crystal are saying they can take people to Andorra via France but doesn't look that way to me! Not that we can go anyway as DD and I tested positive yesterday, but makes a difference as to whether they cancel our holiday or we have to claim on the insurance.
