Is anyone feeling nervous about their 21/22 ski trip?

I realise that I'm probably being silly. I fully recognise that covid has made me a bit irrationally anxious about crowds, busy places, etc. So on that note... We have a large and normally busy resort in France booked (booked pre covid and shifted from last year to this). We're going to a catered chalet with DH's family which includes his child free siblings who will want to go out partying.
I'm a bit worried about ski resorts being covid hotbeds this winter (remembering Whistler last year) and what will happen if we end up with it - we won't be able to travel home presumably so where will we stay? Not to mention the possibility of actually getting ill, though DH and I are both vaccinated so I know that's unlikely.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is having similar thoughts or if I'm being really foolish.

I've just called 119 and they advised they will only send the letter for 12-15 year olds when they've had both vaccinations. So sadly not one for us quite yet. Their advice was to link our son's account (which we've done), click on his health record and vaccination record and take a screenshot of his one covid vaccination (which I can do).

Although the call was a bit confusing so fingers crossed you get your letter!

reallyagain · 14/12/2021 16:54

Is there any word on when the 2nd vaccine is opening to 12-15 group?

Thunderpunt · 14/12/2021 17:30

@jpbee I'm just putting my head in the sand and hoping by February everything will be better....

reallyagain · 14/12/2021 18:37

Thunder that's all you can do I think

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/12/2021 19:18

With five days to go I'm starting to think this might actually happen.

Then I saw a news article about France might be restricting UK in the next few days...

JeremiahObadiahJackanoryJonez · 14/12/2021 19:25

@Aroundtheworldin80moves were slightly behind you and have 13 days to go. Almost hoping dc12 & 15 will test +ve for asymptomatic covid before 17th to remove the need for daily testing in resort!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/12/2021 19:28

My worst nightmare is it getting cancelled on Saturday night when we are in the airport hotel... kids are only 8&10, so will be really upset.

Thats what I thought until dd tested positive last night and me this morning! So no skiing for us this year ☹☹

@TheSeventeenth I read that the NHS covid pass letter doesn't cover recovered, just the vaccine. But you could brandish printouts of both I guess.

TheSeventeenth · 14/12/2021 20:45

We will have to wait and see what our letter says.

We are hoping to ski in France in 6 days. Flying via Geneva and have a 12 year old (plus older teens but they’re double vaxxed). I’m so very very stressed.
Anyone else flying via Geneva and understand the rules for our return home. I’ve read that the Swiss want a PCR to leave Geneva airport to return to U.K.

@NotDonna we are in the same boat. I ordered pre departure antigen tests today to take with us thinking that was ok but will now need to book PCR tests in resort €65 each if they do require pcrs to leave Geneva!
NotDonna · 14/12/2021 23:07

@OhCobblers
I’ve just found this suggesting LFTs are ok for the return. It does sound like the French ski resorts are as confused as us though…

I’ve loads of friends who are cancelling as it’s too complicated and stress inducing. It certainly is a challenge. I do wish we could get our 12-15 year olds vaccinated without leaving a 3 month gap between 1st and 2nd.

NinnyNewName · 15/12/2021 00:27

We are still aiming to go on 21st (France) although someone my DS (18) had lunch with on Sunday has just tested positive so who knows.

We're going with a tour operator and are half hoping they cancel tbh.

We have spent around £450 on tests to come here, for before department and before returning home.

We are off to buy ski kit on Sunday, leaving it as late as possible. We have an out of town Snow & Rock not too far away. (DSs have grown in the 2 years since we've been).

I feel so stressed and anxious about so many aspects of the trip, but also absolutely desparate to get away - skiing always reconnects us all and we have such a lovely time together.

NotDonna · 15/12/2021 06:57

@NinnyNewName we feel exactly the same. There’s something very special about skiing isn’t there? That alpine air. Escapism. As a family it’s something we could definitely do with.
We are going with club med but I doubt they’ll cancel. I’ve just been on BA to discover our flights have changed and club med haven’t even mentioned it. I’ve now got to change our testing times to re-fit the 48hr time frame. 🙄

mnp321 · 15/12/2021 07:49

Fingers crossed for you all going imminently. We ordered our pre-departure tests and pre return LFTs with c19 testing (I'm not affiliated in any way!). When I emailed them yesterday to say my son has tested positive so we're not able to travel, they've said they'll refund us for all the tests. Which is kind of them (our arrival back 0-2 testing company has not been so accommodating..).

In case that helps anyone.

Just been sent the link above. Nothing yet on BBC news or anywhere else I've looked. Arse.

Does any one know if its possible to get 'proof' of just double jabbed 14 yr old quickly (less than 1 week)

I am wondering if I can get 14yr old child double jabbed this week but get proof of this for flying by boxing day.

reallyagain · 16/12/2021 09:24

I don't think you can book the 2nd jab before next Monday

OhCobblers · 16/12/2021 09:37

Anyone thinking Italy might go the same way as France? Wondering whether we should move our holiday to Italy for next week instead? Or just give up or attempt Feb 1/2 term?

Havanananana · 16/12/2021 09:45

@OhCobblers

Entry to Italy is already logistically difficult - you need a negative PCR or antigen test in order to enter, even if you are fully vaxxed.

From www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/italy/entry-requirements

If you travel from the UK and can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated, you can enter Italy without needing to self-isolate. In addition:

  • you must fill in the passenger locator form (EU PLF) before you enter Italy to get a QR code to show to your travel provider and Border Police. You can ask for paper form if you do not have an electronic device
  • you must show evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours before entering Italy OR a negative antigen test taken within 24 hours before entering Italy.
OhCobblers · 16/12/2021 09:51

@Havanananana
We're flying via Geneva so pcrs were booked for 24 hours pre departure anyway. Locator form shouldn't be a problem just apartment/hotel availability I guess and ski school places?
