Taking our (grown up) family to Samoens (Grand Massif) over Christmas.

natation · 15/11/2010 19:17

A long shot but perhaps Chamonix valley at the last minute. It's not cheap for singles but for families with 3, 4, 5, 6 children, it's the same price for lift passes so great for larger families. We just couldn't afford to ski anywhere else and it's one of the nearest resorts to our home.

flossie64 · 15/11/2010 19:22

We're off on our 1st ski-ing trip just after new year. 5 nights in Tignes. It worked out £1000 cheaper than if we went for 7 days !!

greygirl · 16/11/2010 16:19

we were off at new year once - it was ace.

shame work stops me now, but i have grand plans for my 40th....

(involving jackson hole and harrison ford in his helicopter Grin)

We're off to Sainte-Foy in France for New Year; not our chalet, but the next best thing, our best friends!

mulranno · 17/11/2010 13:11

Hi Patricia...I am counting on my "best friends" renting it off me too ...getting an email out this weekend - fingers crossed. Maltesers yes Vaujany is in the southern French Alps - not a million miles from Megeve Yes I am very lucky - taken a bit of a gambol on this venture but it has been so much fun so far ... we actually bought for the summer we love the mountain activities and heat -- done with beach holidays...

PatriciaHolm · 17/11/2010 17:07

Ah, mulranno - we don't pay! None of us do. He doesn't rent it, it's somewhere he goes and he wants us all to go lots too!

maltesers · 18/11/2010 09:23

Mulranno. . we went to Megeve last summer for a week and its was so so hot. . .we swam every day, walking the mountains, Tree Harness Adventure for my son, and there were so many things to do . . .It surprised me how good it was in the summer as well as the winter.

OP posts:
mulranno · 18/11/2010 11:16

Maltesers...the other thing about summer in the ALPS is that you can rent a stunning chalet for peanuts - as it is "out of season" - so somthing that is £3500 sleeps 10 at feb half term is only £750 in summer school holidays...think it is a nice thing to do en route to the coast - so a week in the mountains and a week at the beach in the south of france .... however we have not done that yet as we enjoy the whole hot summer mountain thing

greygirl · 18/11/2010 12:33

oh yes i am in the i want a chalet club. can't ever quite manage to justify it though, as holidays used mainly for childcare at the moment.

our friends are hopefully moving to switzerland so i am hoping we will have a good excuse for a long weekend (cos i need an excuse, can't just say, 'let's go'. well i can but we don't go)

mulranno · 18/11/2010 13:51

Hi grey girl -- what is a chalet club?...how does it work?

PatriciaHolm · 18/11/2010 14:55

Um, Mulranno, I think what GG was saying was "I am in the "I want a chalet" club" e.g, she wants a chalet as well as the other posters above!

greygirl · 18/11/2010 15:03

yes ph, that is what i meant. sorry mulranno but you may not join, since you are already a lucky cow blessed.

i keep trying to persuade my sister to consider a joint purchase, but alas, she isn't interested.

Fimbo · 18/11/2010 15:06

My best mate is going to Chamonix, returning home on boxing day.

My sil and family are going skiing in Japan, but to be fair they do live in Australia! Smile

mulranno · 18/11/2010 15:57

!!! thats so funny - however would say that with my interest only mortgage and efforts to rent it out it should pay for itself - whilst we hope to get x3 free holidays a year which with 4 kids means we are quids in ...although once the interest rates rise it will be a v different story - head in sand for now....

mulranno · 18/11/2010 16:17

..or should that be head in snow...?
