Mumsnet for mums or only to sell products?

My friends and I have noticed something on the product reviews. Whenever you try to submit a good review, it works... whenever a bad, it "times out" and doesn't work. I find this concerning, especially when you want to mention something that is dangerous.

Hhhmmm. I'd love some feedback on this... will this post make it? We will soon see.

i have slated certain french campsites - never had a problem, if this is a glitch i hope its fixed soon, but the initial cynisism is a bit OTT i think

i would let MNHQ know about this

i doubt it is a cynical sales ploy to champion certain products

Hello.

Sorry to hear you've been having problem submitting reviews, Loriket. We'll ask the Tech team to take a look at things on Monday, and make sure all is working as it should be.

In the meantime, we can categorically assure you that we don't have some automatic ban-the-bad-review timing-out process!

All reviews that are submitted to us are checked and read before they appear on the site (which is why there can be some delay between you submitting one and it being published).

Obviously, Mumsnetters' opinions - good and bad - are what make our Reviews worth reading. So I'd think it unlikely that a review containing a valid criticism of a product wouldn't be published. (Unless it was hugely libellous or downright abusive or similarly unsuitable for publication.)

Hope that puts your mind at rest.

I am loving the idea that Mumsnet's servers are able to read a review, realise it is unfavourable and then decide to 'time out'!

I think you may have solved the problem of why MN has been slow recently - the servers are too busy reading the reviews....
