MNHQ - you are treating your members like toddlers!

It is my belief that you are sometimes too quick to delete threads which show the warts and all side of Mumsnet.

I wonder if there is any chance you could put up a very brief message when you pull a thread explaining why you have done it?

We are big enough and ugly enough to take it.

Has the thread about the thread about the thread been pulled now?Its gone from my I,m on.

Aussieng · 06/03/2010 12:24

Don't know how the thread developped but assuming it remained in the same vein as it was around 8pm then it's ridiculous that MNHQ pulled this. Censorship much> Perhaps someone threatened to save the thread to email to the DM!

NumberOneEnemy · 06/03/2010 12:25

wot thread

sausagepastie · 06/03/2010 14:08

no, someone's personal stuff was saved from another site and posted on the thread. It was a shite thread anyway, it wasn't going anywhere apart from into another slagfest. I'm glad they pulled it.

what has the DM got to do with anything?

Rindercella · 06/03/2010 14:20

Sigh.

Seeing as the thread about a thread about a thread about a thread was also deleted, I suspect this one will also go the same way.

It seems a shame that we cannot debate something which obviously causes concern for many posters (trolls, 'trollhunters' and what to do about them) without it turning into a 'slagfest' and therefore whole threads getting deleted.

sausagepastie · 06/03/2010 14:22

that's the way it goes.

with due respect I think we should just leave it.

BitOfFun · 06/03/2010 14:23

When a thread descends into personal attacks, it is generally pulled. No censorship about it, just the site guidelines. MNHQ don't generally treat us as toddlers, but trust us to self-moderate. If posters start acting like toddlers, then I guess they have to step in. That said though, I don't know any toddlers who are intentionally spiteful.

sausagepastie · 06/03/2010 14:26

I thought the passive aggression on that thread was bad enough even before the direct attacks kicked in.

anyway...as I said...

smallorange · 06/03/2010 14:27

Sigh

mememememeitsallaboutme · 06/03/2010 14:32

'I don't know any toddlers who are intentionally spiteful', true, neither do i, but i could name at least 10 mnetters off the top of my head who are

tbh it could be treated as a reminder, as if we need one, that stuff we put on here is truly public

All you have to do is do an advanced search on someone's name using key words, for eg email address and bingo there it is, if you've posted it anywhere. Or home town. Or childrens names. Or your age. Or your surname and or first name. Photos.

Be careful, folks - it seems like a nice wee community here but don't be fooled.

Here endeth the lesson.

what nobert said

GypsyMoth · 06/03/2010 14:45

Well most of us are mums with no time to stalk other mums......... But suppose there's always one! Which brings us back to trolls!

NorbertDentressangle · 06/03/2010 14:49

molly -I guess we have some sort of in-built instinct as to which threads to avoid.

It does make me wonder what passes me by in real life that I'm oblivious to though

CaitlinMeringue · 06/03/2010 14:51

yy Norbert, you and I must live in similar bubbles
