Please may we have a weather section.

Dear MN, please may we have a weather section. I think people find it pretty useful when the weather is going up the spout to have a place that they can talk about it.

Though I often start threads, as do others, when there are weather warnings issued or when it looks like the weather might get 'interesting' they tend to go missing in the general noise and chat of MN.

I realise that sometimes it would go very quiet in the section but if all the weather threads are in one place then people can find them when they are needed.

Seconded. I often go looking for BadKitten's threads when I want to know what's happening weatherwise - would be a lot easier if there was a relevant topic.

Well it's not something that's ever been suggested before but if enough folks think it's worth having we'll certainly discuss it when everyone is back in the office (weather permitting )

So you admit you need the weather topic to plan your meetings, then?

Good idea. A flood/blizard support thread would be good in that section, for example, as there might be MNetters who really need help.

I hate to bang on about the specialist cat area within Pets (and I am very disappointed that you felt you had to take out that High Court injunction), but there is a general problem with very interesting stuff getting lost in the general noise on the site.

The subject of Weather is a prime example of a deteriorating signal to noise ratio on the site. A really interseting area with a lot of potential crops up and is prevented from growing because it gets lost in teh overall morass.

It looks slightly nichey now becasue it is so "lost", but with decent billing it would be very popular.

Yes, and OYBK could do a daily forecast and we could all argue over charts and stuff!!!

I very much like the idea of arguing over the charts, we'd learn loads that way!

also seconded, would be really useful to have plenty of info on the weather on this site, as well as a place for people to report unexpected weather phenomena, such as flash floods/ tornado's etc. and, as i am a regular on OYMMK's weather threads, it would be handy to have an actual weather topic which people dont have to search for

Yes, yes. MN is a British website, and we know that the Brits are absolutely obsessed with the weather.

I don't think that I have had a conversation with my mother, since leaving UK, where we have not exchanged weather reports.

A place to report severe weather would actually be very helpful, as some of you know I'm a member of TORRO here where there are true weather experts and not utter amateurs like me. MN is a fabulous network of observant people. I know that some people here have passed their observations onto TORRO who have found their obs invaluable.
