we feel have very offensive names?

I don't want my dcs looking over my shoulders and seeing certain nicknames and asking what they are.

Thank you please

agree Buda

Remotew · 29/09/2009 11:48

Was a bit shocked at CW's name must admit. The daily mail are quoting shorter versions of names in the column so CW could become 'Whack'. The whole name change so the Mail won't quote you thing is not necessary and has resulted in oneupmanship as to who can come up with the rudest name. It does seem to be no holds barred on here with language in names.

Btw the origin of the word is 'Cunny'. I quite like it, shall I claim it?

Wonder if MNHQ are going to comment on this.

ApplesinmyPocket · 29/09/2009 11:48

Agree with Slubber, DP and MP. It's boring and unfunny, though I appreciate we all find different things funny, but honestly - is anyone still chortling over, say, 'AnyFucker' every time they see it, or do they not even notice it now? See, that's the thing - swearing can make a useful emphasis, and it can grab attention when sparingly used, and it can amuse, in the right place. But overdone and habitual, it becomes redundant and meaningless.

I don't want MN censored but I'd love it if people acknowledged their right to swear all they like - but then decided not to bother.

morningpaper · 29/09/2009 11:49

Yes I agree with Buda

I would much rather people try to impress us with their knowledge of Salinger rather than shouting "CUNT CUNT CUNT" like a deranged 14 year old

hullygully · 29/09/2009 11:50

Like The Cunter in the Rye?

Unfunny and tedious

But I think that bumsex fits into this category too - makes me cringe every time I see it

We used to be BIG and CLEVER without resorting to snakebite and smoking

well put - as ever- MP

TrinityRhino · 29/09/2009 11:54

I fucking hope you dont start censoring shit

seriously, really please dont

just teach your kids to stop reading over your shoulder, its rude

Mamazon · 29/09/2009 11:54

well i can see why people would be offended by CW but realy i just read it as "Gillette" now.

It is attempting to be shocking but its just lazy.

its not an inspired or creative name. it holds no water compared to say Tsarchasm/ Sheikyerbouti etc etc.

its ok for a particular thread or to be funny for a short period but after half an hour it becomes pointless.

and this is from someone taht swears like a trooper and considers the word cunt to be one of her most used words and most certainly her favourate.

MotherOfAChild · 29/09/2009 11:56

If this is turning into a 'things were better in the old days' then I'm off [yawn]

Mamazon · 29/09/2009 11:59

is it? i dont think it has anything to do with longevity.

i think that someone has seen that people with unusual or funny names are more easily recognisable and maybe become more notorious...maybe even MN royalty
and have tried to get on the band wagon, they have just got it very wrong

QuintessentialShadow · 29/09/2009 12:03

Things were much better in the old days. Really they were. fingers crossed

shush! off you go!

NotanOtter · 29/09/2009 12:04

hear hear Mamazon

NotanOtter · 29/09/2009 12:05

Are adults not allowed to be offended?

daftpunk · 29/09/2009 12:06

i think in the "old days" people with unusual or interesting names delivered what they promised....

AitchTwoToTangOh · 29/09/2009 12:10

lol daftpunk.

agree wholeheartedly with slub, mp, nao and mamazon. esp about the boring bumsex, mp. it does seem that this is a cruder place, tbh.

tootiredtothink · 29/09/2009 12:11

Cant say I have seen anything which offends me - although it's right to moderate racist or violent names.

QueenOfFuckingEverything, if you give up your name can I have it???

MN time is my time and the kids have been taught to not read over my shoulder.

Whether the swear words are on the threads or in the name it's my responsibility to keep kids from seeing them.

it scuppers chances of making the roundup! There may be a few name changes to come after all?.............

CUNextTuesday · 29/09/2009 12:58

Can I keep my name please? It's my identity and it's to ward off the DM cut-n-pasters. Not that I have anything of interest to say that would ever make it to print, but we on the Mid 30s TTC thread do sometimes live up to the stereotype of being Barren Evil Selfish Hags, something the DM may take advantage of

Jumente · 29/09/2009 13:34

I will just add that I really, really really can't stand the name 'dragon b*tter and it makes me feel sick every time I see it

Only because I googled it about 3 years ago(thanks to that poster!)

I like the posted but not the name and I think it would be nice if it went, personally...because I find I can't go near any threads they are on.

Jumente · 29/09/2009 13:35

Trin it is nice to see you x

Remotew · 29/09/2009 13:37

I have to google dragonbutter now.

Meglet · 29/09/2009 13:38

Please don't censor the site or the names.

When my dc's get to the stage of being able to read I've accepted I won't be able to MN when they are being nosy. I swear like a squaddie when they aren't around, but am Mary Poppins in front of them.
