Overlay/ pop-up advertising on mumsnet

Hello all,
We usually say no to pop-ups on mumsnet because they're irritating but we've been offered a campaign to run for the next two weeks which is capped at one view per user per week. In other words, so long as you've not disabled cookies on your machine, you will only see it twice maximum in it's lifetime.

What thinks the mumsnet jury - can you live with it? How many of you have disabled cookies and will get cross? Can we accept and earn a bean or two or shall we deny and go hungry ?

Damn

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 09:49

And is your pop up blocker on?

Have to say 'm no expert on this - just trying to see what's set up differently that means I only see it once (if at all)

WigWamBam · 21/05/2005 09:53

Yep, it usually works OK too.

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 09:55

Have you annoyed MN HQ in any way recently?? Maybe they're big cat fans and object to your roast cat recipe request?

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 09:57

What firewall do you have?

WigWamBam · 21/05/2005 10:06

Hehehe, it's probably the cat thing! We have Norton.

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 10:15

What settings do you have under Privacy on Norton? (mine's Nortin Internet Security so not just a firewall). Mine is medium. I also have a thing called "ad blocking" which is turned on for ads and pop ups.

This is my last ditch attempt. Otherwise you may have to retract your cat thread and beg for forgiveness

JoolsToo · 21/05/2005 10:27

I've got all those - medium on cookies and McAfee Firewall - arggghh - HATE all popups!

WigWamBam · 21/05/2005 10:29

Ours is Norton Internet Security too, same settings as yours.

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 10:40

Upgrade to Mozilla Firefox then

WigWamBam · 21/05/2005 10:41

Or get down on my knees and beg forgiveness for the cat thread ...

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 10:41

(although I have to say I never had trouble with pop ups before I upgraded either. I wonder what the problem is??)

almostanangel · 23/05/2005 06:55

had enough now !!

Flum · 23/05/2005 10:15

ooooh DisneyWorld!! Don't need to go now as the pop up is so 'life like'

JoolsToo · 23/05/2005 10:18

I've not had it for a couple of days - thankyou!

Kelly1978 · 23/05/2005 10:30

I never saw it at all, I use yahoo toolbar blocker - it stops absolutely everything unless it is on an allowed site.
