Overlay/ pop-up advertising on mumsnet

Hello all,
We usually say no to pop-ups on mumsnet because they're irritating but we've been offered a campaign to run for the next two weeks which is capped at one view per user per week. In other words, so long as you've not disabled cookies on your machine, you will only see it twice maximum in it's lifetime.

What thinks the mumsnet jury - can you live with it? How many of you have disabled cookies and will get cross? Can we accept and earn a bean or two or shall we deny and go hungry ?

I had my first one today-scared the life out of me as have had them blocked so long now!

Gwenick · 20/05/2005 11:25

none here.......

well actually I lie - I got one yesterday when people were saying they were having problems with bouncing screens (or something to do with long threads) I briefly logged in on IE and got...........but haven't seen any with Mozzilla

MarsLady · 20/05/2005 11:25

I got blimming stitch this morning and I would rather not see him again thanks!

tamum · 20/05/2005 11:28

I'm getting it every day too, and it evades the pop-up blocker.

lemonice · 20/05/2005 11:29

I've had it 3 times, but I didn't get it when I logged on 5 minutes ago.

Gwenick · 20/05/2005 12:06

simple answer - don't use IE - use something like Mozzilla - you'll never (well practically never) have to worry about annoying pop-ups/unders again

Flum · 20/05/2005 12:07

Accept.

JustineMumsnet · 20/05/2005 14:56

Twas an error by hosts - apologies - they are now promising it is capped at once per week... do let us know if you're seeing it more frequently.
Cheers.

is that Disney thing? - I had it 3 times in one session!

spots · 20/05/2005 15:00

it is very scary, is Stich supposed to be a friendly character?

SoupDragon · 20/05/2005 15:35

Another vote for Firefox - I don't get it at all

almostanangel · 21/05/2005 06:08

i am seeing ALL the time every time i press on a thread up it darn well comes AAAAAAAAAgrh!

WigWamBam · 21/05/2005 07:51

It's there again this morning ...

JoolsToo · 21/05/2005 09:31

I've had it again too - is it the Disney thing?

purpleturtle · 21/05/2005 09:32

I got it this morning too

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 09:37

Even by turning the pop up blocker off in Firefox and also trying with IE too I don't see the pop up. Do you have any sort of firewall installed?

WigWamBam · 21/05/2005 09:39

Yes, I have a firewall. Still getting the thing every time I log in though. I don't mind having it once a week as was agreed, but this is very annoying!

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 09:40

Ok - I've finally got it by turning off my firewall, but only once. Is it something to do with how you have cookies set up? If your browser isn't accepting what I assume is the cookie saying you've seen the pop up, you'll see it every time.

WigWamBam · 21/05/2005 09:42

I haven't disabled cookies, so according to Justine's post, should only see it once a week.

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 09:43

Are you using IExplorer? What setting do you have under "privacy"?

WigWamBam · 21/05/2005 09:45

Using IE, yes. Not exactly sure what is set up under privacy ... I'd have to check

SoupDragon · 21/05/2005 09:46

Mine's set to "medium" (not that I use IE anymore) so I wondered if yours was higher than this it might reject the type of cookie that stops the pop up popping up,

WigWamBam · 21/05/2005 09:47

Just checked and mine is medium too.
