MN HQ -- MN for mobile / blackberry / iphone

star6 · 22/05/2009 21:45

I've recently posted this in my post natal thread as a thought to request to MN HQ
I would be able to double my usage of this site if they could create MN for mobile site as it currently takes AGES to post on my blackberry as it is currently. Anyone support this? Is it possible HQ?

I think there was a thread on this recently, not sure if MN responded, but I def second it, I would love to have a MN app for my iphone. Would make it much much easier to use

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/05/2009 21:47

I'd love this too. Takes blardy ages to load on my phone, and the logo fills the whole screen when it does.

Pretty please?

UndertheBoredwalk · 22/05/2009 21:49

I'd be more than willing to pay for said MN app for iphone btw

Phoenix · 22/05/2009 21:50

I can only get on threads on my phone that have less than about 300 posts so this would be good (preferably before i go into hospital to have ds2 in July )

JODIEwantsanewname · 22/05/2009 21:51

Oh, I;d pay for a MN Iphone App, I think it woud be the best thing about it!!! (my DH might disagree, he thinks I spend far too much time on here anyway!)

Flame · 22/05/2009 21:53

I would support this if MN would kindly provide me with an iPhone....

Yes, yes yes!
It takes ages on my blackberry and then sometimes wont work. I can sneakely MN in bed then when DH thinks I am sleeping

sorky · 22/05/2009 22:03

I have a g3 and don't have any probs with it, what would a specific iphone app do?

Phoenix · 22/05/2009 22:04

You've all got posh iphones and Blackberrys's , mine is only a Samsung Tocco

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/05/2009 22:08

sorky - try looking at facebook on your phone with the full facebook and with the phone version of facebook, and you'll appreciate what a diff it makes.

UndertheBoredwalk · 22/05/2009 22:13

An iPhone app, would make the pages a hell of a lot easier to read. As it is it's viewed as a normal webpage, which while do-able there is so much text on MN, add in the ads and it all becomes V tiny so has to be zoomed in a lot and then you only get tiny portions of the pages at once and are scrolling madly left to right and up and down.
If it were available on an app, it would presumably be tailored towards being viewed in the iPhone screen and therefore much easier.

JustineMumsnet · 22/05/2009 22:34

Well, goodness me, an Iphone "App", why not indeed?
(Well possibly because it's hugely complicated and costs alot, I suppose, but I don't know that so will investigate and get back to you).

RustyBear · 22/05/2009 22:43

Helpful link for Tech to iPhone developers' info about 3.0 upgrade (coming soon - or so we are told)

Hulababy · 22/05/2009 23:01

Was thinking of such a thing just today! Would love to have a phone friendly version of MN for my Blackberry.

GypsyMoth · 22/05/2009 23:04

can't you just use safari and then save it to its own app? i have on my ipod. works fine and loads in seconds!

Snorbs · 22/05/2009 23:09

Surely you don't need a complete iPhone app, you just need the iPhone's built-in web browser to handle the pages sensibly? You could probably fix it just with either a few adjustments to the existing stylesheets or, maybe, have an iPhone-specific one.

The iPhone should be able to handle it reasonably sensibly, though - I've got a Blackberry which has a smaller screen than an iPhone. Even then MN works ok on it - no side-to-side scrolling necessary at all. The Blackberry just reflows the text so that each line is shorter.

GypsyMoth · 22/05/2009 23:10

snorbs, exactly! i have done that om mine.

Hulababy · 22/05/2009 23:11

I find some fo the graphics a pain, and logging on appears to be very much hit and miss at times too. This nly happens on my Blackberry, enevr on my laptop.

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/05/2009 23:11

We don't all have iphones though snorbs, but other phones (eg my Nokia E71) work much much better with iphone apps.

Snorbs · 22/05/2009 23:19

CantSleepWontSleep, are you saying that you can run iPhone apps on your Nokia E71? I thought the two devices were running completely different operating systems...

RustyBear · 22/05/2009 23:22

I have a shortcut to Threads I'm on on the Home Page of my iPhone - it takes about 4 seconds to load the top of the page, so I can start reading & maybe another 5 to finish loading. Even the 1000+ thread gets something on the page in about 8-9 seconds, though it's about 40 to get it all on there.

But I find it very readable once I'm on, though posters' names are a bit small and I occasionally have issues with touching 'Report a post' by mistake when I'm flicking down the screen (so if anyone at MNHQ has been wondering why I've apparently been reporting posts & then changing my mind recently, that's why )

ronshar · 23/05/2009 14:52

Yes please.
I would love to have MN on my phone.

futurity · 23/05/2009 15:00

I browse alot on my nokia N 95 and this site isn't too bad but would be nice to have a mobile version like facebook and twitter do for example.

Honeymoonmummy · 28/05/2009 22:20

Genius proposal
