Limiting name changes - what do you think

Twiglett · 04/05/2005 14:20

Saw this from Justine on another thread and just didn't want it to get lost

I'd really hate it if you limited name changes, I have so much fun (on occasion) playing around with names (innocently)

like with WigWamBam, I was WamBamSham
with Soupy I've been TwiglettDragon and SOUPerciliousDragon

I vote a big resounding NO (although maybe there could be a facility to get rid of them once you've used them?)

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 04/05/2005 14:22

I've enjoyed playing around with silly names, too, always innocently and never maliciously. I think I'd be sad to see name changes limited, too.

WamBamSham · 04/05/2005 14:23

See how cool does that look

WigWamBam- WamBamSham

Caligula · 04/05/2005 14:23

I've never messed about with sham names, but would like to! So I vote no.

As everything is anonymous anyway, I can't see how it would actually solve any problems. And it would put an end to the glorious nortiness of threads like Jane and the neighbour's cleaner and the cat and the football.

LemonDrizzle · 04/05/2005 14:24

Another BIG NO from this direction. For lots of reasons. Maybe I'll come back with my real name to make a list.

SaintGeorge · 04/05/2005 14:25

Vot no to having a limit, but I quite like the idea of MN HQ having the ability to 'out' the really nasty posters. Might make people think before they post.

compo · 04/05/2005 14:26

Another NO thanks here

Fio2 · 04/05/2005 14:27

No let us cxhange names

I mean what if you say you are limited to 5 and you have more than 5 life changing anon moments in a month, you will run out then

Newbarnsleygirl · 04/05/2005 14:28

Another no here.

Understand · 04/05/2005 14:29

NO

flashingnose · 04/05/2005 14:30

Well I still vote for a maximum but would be happy with MN/moderators "outing" the nasty ones.

roisin · 04/05/2005 14:32

Just to buck the trend, I think yes
I think a maximum of 3 would be a good thing. (OK, I've actually had 5, but even so!)

Codswallap · 04/05/2005 14:35

Oh no - definitely not!! It would finally kill the last remaining bit of fun on the site --- far too 'nanny state' IMHO....

QueenEagle · 04/05/2005 14:35

No, even though I've never changed my name. Oh how I would miss the hilarity of threads like the cat and the neighbour's football

Caligula · 04/05/2005 14:37

Also I think people should be able to change names if they want to. I changed mine because I got paranoid about being recognised in RL. And I may get paranoid again. [twitch]

flashingnose · 04/05/2005 14:37

The truly horrible post that made spacedonkey fall on her sword deserved outing. Don't think that's nanny state TBH.

moondog · 04/05/2005 14:37

Where is this mythical cat and football thread??!

RTKangaMummy · 04/05/2005 14:37

It is a NO to a limit from me

Cos otherwise all my alter egos that get let loose on ONLY JOKING TOPIC

for funfunfun

would be very

BTW

THEY ARE ONLY ON ONLY JOKING AND ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THAT TOPIC

JustineeMumsnet · 04/05/2005 14:37

OK, OK, we won't do it then..........

lima · 04/05/2005 14:38

me too Caligula - not being able to change my name would inhibit me posting personal and therefore identifiable stuff.

BIG NO VOTE

WigWamBam · 04/05/2005 14:39

Thank you Justine! Mwah, mwah!

I do think you should be able to out people who misuse the name changing facility, though.

Newbarnsleygirl · 04/05/2005 14:40

Oh thank goodness.

The end of RTKM's alter egos

How would we cope?

I think there should definitley be a 'limit' to how many names you can use........

almost40 · 04/05/2005 14:44

From all of my different personas, a resounding NO NO NO NO NO NO NO . ..
