Is it maybe time for mumsnet to get a few moderators on board?

no...too many posts get deleted as it is.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 15/05/2009 11:51

No. it works perfectly fine how it is. We are grown up enough to self-moderate.

AMumInScotland · 15/05/2009 11:51

No - we can report posts if there's a problem.

hf128219 · 15/05/2009 11:51

No!

forkhandles · 15/05/2009 11:51

No I don't think it should, it would change the feeling of the whole board and it's not necesssary.

QuintessentialShadows · 15/05/2009 11:52

I like Leningrads suggestion below.

hobbgoblin · 15/05/2009 12:03

God, I have to vote soon for some tosspot politician who will be the best of a bad bunch at making sure my community is suitably 'managed'. I resent that enough as it is. I live a utopian life of anarchy.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 15/05/2009 12:06

What I don't understand is that if a poster has left because of being upset, then surely the posts were offensive and personal, therefore should have been deleted?

Robespierre · 15/05/2009 12:06

lol hobgob.

Are you worried the MN mods will start claiming expenses?

I agree -- no moderators.

Boco · 15/05/2009 12:08

No, I prefer no moderators too.

It wouldn't prevent people getting upset, or being offensive - and it would change the whole feel of the board.

phdlife · 15/05/2009 12:09

NO.

MadamAnt · 15/05/2009 12:11

Definitely NO moderators. MNHQ do a good job of stepping in when things get out of hand.

dreamylady · 15/05/2009 12:15

no way! lack of moderators is what gives MN its unique sense of anarchic 'fun' (y'know like how rollercoasters and home firework displays are fun)

it can be scary at times but there are alternatives, if you're concerned about negative comments from others (admit i am sometimes) there's always the option of other forums.

what exactly do moderators do though? is there other stuff they stop apart from big barneys?

nickytwotimes · 15/05/2009 12:16

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.

Snorbs · 15/05/2009 12:17

I haven't been on MN for very long but it all seems to work reasonably well. I was on another site before (with a very similar, if differently arranged, name) and the number of deleted threads, and deleted/edited posts over there is absurd. The partiality over which posts were removed or eviscerated, and which ones weren't, also caused significant problems.

Maybe just have a killfile option so you can choose to ignore all posts from people who regularly annoy you?

No - I did have a few problems last year and the way they do it now works perfectly well. MNHQ were very quick to deal with the problem and other posters were also very aware. Moderators would make everyone censor what they really want to say and goes angainst what MN is.

nickytwotimes · 15/05/2009 12:20

Mutt.

I really ought to have made it a bit clearer!

Ewe · 15/05/2009 12:20

No, definitely not. I do think there should sometimes be a quicker response from MNHQ but not sure you can do much about that... they are people!

theDreadPirateRoberts · 15/05/2009 12:24

Nooooooooooooo!

We can always report posts. Some of the trolls are (unintentionally) hilarious, and there only really seem to be problems every once in a while when new people join and take a while to get a feel for the place. That's when people take offence quickly, but the overall tone of the place (for me anyway) is a slightly sweary supportiveness - moderation would surely interfere with that dynamic?

Kayzr · 15/05/2009 12:26

No!!
