if so why hasn't the new MM thread been deleted?

I wish that thread wasn't there. Even those posters who to their credit are not making vile accusations are still in the business of making a leisure activity out of contemplating the death or abduction of a child.

I think that rule is only really applicable when there were 101 slightly different MM threads all at once.

it's in one thread, just a new one. If it was on the original thread, it would take forever to load, like all the huge threads do

Er, Fredworm, that's rubbish. Some of us who have contributed to that thread are not doing it for "leisure" purposes.

I just don't think people should be able to say the most outrageous and destructive things without being told they are talking bollocks challenged.

It is not a lesiure activity. It is a discussion about something that has happened.

I can ask a question, which is what I did.
surely my question is a sensible one, how long do the rules last and what ends them?

Fair question - answer really is as SD said - it's more of a one thread at a time, rather than the same thread for ever more, rule. As we see it, the reason for having a one thread policy is to stop a proliferation of threads on the same issue, so folks could easily hide them if they were bored of/irritated by a particular subject. The intention was never to stop discussion altogether, so it seems sensible to let this thread stand. (Having said that from a cursory glance our inbox there have been some dodgy comments on the thread to put it mildly, we've deleted some but we will be going through it and removing a few more, I suspect).

The thread seems to be gone now- probably just as well, it was in very poor taste, and quite disappointing to see posters I thought of as sensible rubbernecking like that.
