But Swedes, taking into account all you have said and with a concomitant apology for grumpiness, esp when this is not a particular bugbear of mine: why are they charities? Really?

Swedes · 05/04/2009 22:51

I think my ideas of having all male members' posts preceded by a cock and balls emoticon is a good one.

Wormsmeat · 05/04/2009 22:52

Are you ignoring me cos you don't know who i am or for some other reason?

Threadworm · 05/04/2009 22:56

They are ignoring you because you are spouting incontinent drivel you mad-eyed bitch.

Swedes · 05/04/2009 22:59

Onebat - For the purposes of education - they provide free and assisted places to those who are bright ebough but unable to afford it. Does the Cat Protection League upset you with their tax breaks or Mission for Semen?

I feel like I'm becoming the Mrs B'stard of Mumsnet.

Threadworm · 05/04/2009 23:07

Is there a thread called 'should it be MANSnet '?

onebatmother · 05/04/2009 23:08

Oh my god she's split!

No, not ignoring you worm! just not enough time fo revethting and Swedes and I are doijng named responses for when you're very serious so I'm obliged to reply.

I have just had a small row with dp over who takes responsibility for The Whole Family - he's working right now, whereas I'm washing/ironing/sorting-out stuff for all of us my step-gf's funeral (sad but not too upsetting so don't worry or email)and feel as though I havve the Entire Weight of Everything on my shoulders. Hence seeking the distraction of MN, but not really able to give it my full attention.

I do feel, with housework, that the problem is not that I have to do it, but that nobody else does. The pain is intrinsic to the relationship between the individuals, not intrinsic to the thing itself.

onebatmother · 05/04/2009 23:09

wormsmeat is threadie, right?

onebatmother · 05/04/2009 23:14

v quickly, yes cat's protection league would really fuck me off if said cats' owners were (in 85% of cases) loaded and if said cats went on to rule the world and make decisions that in general benefited other cats.

but now i must go to bed and I won't be able to respond tomorrow so you may be as mental as you like you mad cat lady

Swedes · 05/04/2009 23:15

OBM - Sorry for droning on about public benefit tests and the like.

That's hard the taking responsibility thing.

Swedes · 05/04/2009 23:17

Hope everything goes well tomrorrow. x

onebatmother · 05/04/2009 23:19

ah no, really not playing the 'things are bad at home' card! Just over-sharing, bcs suddenly amongst friends.

Answer my cat's answer dammit! I thought it was quite good.

Threadworm · 05/04/2009 23:21

I've never really thought much about the ehthics of private ed, because I've not really come close to the issue in any personal way (though dh went to a fee-paying school, even though his mum worked in a cotton mill)

But the state system seems to go so far down the route of commodifying education converting it to precisely measured units of value which seem to take precendence over the item being valued that the private system (at its best) seems paradoxically less vile. Of course there are immense considerations of social justice, but these obtain too in the competition for places at the 'best' state schools.

Know what you mean about the housework.

onebatmother · 05/04/2009 23:28

I think - and this really is my final thingy - that you're abs right about the precisely measured units of value, but I think that most publ.schools do this too now - esp the minor ones - although they prob disguise it better. The biggies prob do it too, but they are so big that their brand allows them some perceived 'quirks' like classics.

and for me the social injustice thing, and the fact that even now those 2 out of 10 cats do end up being the one's in govt, is prb the bigger issue than the qualitative educ. one.

really really going now. Am taking R to funeral tomorrow and it's only just now occurred to me that this might not be a great idea.

Swedes · 05/04/2009 23:29

Onebatmother - Yes, I love your Cat answer. I know you aren't playing any card.

Threadworm - I could kiss you. I wish I had written that about state versus private education.

Threadworm · 05/04/2009 23:29

I tried to say something moderately well-formed there, because I have been talking such profound garbage tonight that I wanted to prove myself sober.

I used to think before posting. Now I just chatter with my fingers. I seem somethimes to have an internet-specific form of Tourettes.

Threadworm · 05/04/2009 23:29

x-post. Hope the funeral goes ok.

onebatmother · 05/04/2009 23:31

huge love to you all.

Swedes · 05/04/2009 23:33

bed for me too, night all.

Threadworm · 05/04/2009 23:36

Night. DH is away tonight so I am going to stay up late and smash windows in the corridors of mumsnet. It's nice and echoey when its empty.

Could we all agree to lower our domestic standards RADICALLY and simultaneously? I'm doing my bit already - eg food deposits only get scraped off the walls when one of my more fastidious friends is coming round.

Let it all out. I used to find pregnant crying immensely cathartic - I could almost feel my hormone levels returning to something-approaching-normal.
