How do I "un-Classic" my mumsnet?

Malkuth · 11/02/2009 10:17

Have been internetless for 10 days so apologies if this has already been done. I did try to search for answers!

When I log in and go to set my preferences I get the option to have Mumsnet Classics. I clicked the button but, having now seen what it looks like when I am not logged in, I much prefer it. However I can't find a button that allows me to change back from Classic view to the new view. Help please!

Please help!

Scroll down to the bottom of this page and choose the last option...

Malkuth · 11/02/2009 16:12

Thank you! For some reason I had convinced myself that all that bit would do would be to change the colours. I must get more sleep!

So are you all sorted now, Malkuth? Hope so

NorktasticNinja · 11/02/2009 18:21

It does look like a set of colour selection options. It even says "Colour Scheme
You may choose from three different colour schemes to set the colours on message headers and links. Click the radio button next to the scheme you like best."

I thoroughly confused myself trying to get new MN with MN classic colours before I realised...

NorktasticNinja · 11/02/2009 18:50

HelenMumsnet?

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 19:31

Yes? You called?

NorktasticNinja · 11/02/2009 19:40

Ooops, was busy getting het-up about CC

Just drawing your attention to my post of 18:21 . I'm sure there are far more important things to deal with first, but 'tis quite confusing. Actually the whole page is rather confusing...

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 20:17

Ah, OK, I see. Thought you were questioning my Mumsnetness

And I also see your point about it being confusing to have MN New listed down there under Colour Schemes.

Will mention it to the powers-that-be in the morning.

NorktasticNinja · 11/02/2009 20:32

Nah. The "(from MNHQ)" pretty much gives the game away

Will we get colour scheme options for new MN (one day) or will they just scrap the colour options for classic?

Littlefish · 11/02/2009 20:34

Helen - whenever I try to change anything on the customise page, it doesn't stay changed. It immediately reverts back once I've pressed the "save" option.

Any ideas?

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 20:41

I've no idea, Norktastic but I will ask

Littlefish: So you've pressed Save Changes in Cutomise (are you definitely pressing the Save Changes button in the right section?), then what do you do?

NorktasticNinja · 11/02/2009 20:47

Cheers Helen.

"Littlefish: So you've pressed Save Changes in Cutomise (are you definitely pressing the Save Changes button in the right section?), then what do you do?" My point exactly ... it really shouldn't be a case of 'which save button should I press' the whole page needs a proper redesign. Tell 'em to sort it out

Littlefish · 11/02/2009 20:50

Yes, I've definintely pressed "save changes" in the right section. The information immediately reverts back to the original form. After that, I click on "active threads" and press "refresh" just in case its done it anyway, but it never has!

It won't let me change from 50 to 100 threads on each page either, or have the "hide" button showing.

Tis very frustrating!!!

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 21:00

Littlefish: yes I can see that must be VERY frustrating.

Have another go (sorry) and try hitting Shift and Refresh (or Shift and F5) a couple of times after you've done all the Save Changes thang.

Norktastic: have you seen Tech when you say 'Sort it out!'? I think I'll ask him very politely if he wouldn't mind taking a look instead...

NorktasticNinja · 11/02/2009 21:05

Lol! I know my brothers one... Sort It Out is never the right thing to say, he'd say 'FFS have you no idea of the backend involved'. Always makes me laarf.

Obviously there are far more important problems but it'd be nice to know it's on the list.

Littlefish · 11/02/2009 21:10

Nooooooooooooo

It still doesn't work!

I've tried changing things, pressing save and then pressing shift f5, and then view, refresh several times, but it just doesn't stay changed.

In fact, as soon as I've pressed save it reverts back.

Any other ideas? Can you get Tech on the case?

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 21:18

Oh dear

At the risk of sounding REALLY patronising, are you doing this:

Click Customise
Scroll down to Active Conversations and Searches
Click on arrow by Number of Threads in Active Conversations and select 100
Click SAVE CHANGES button underneath Display all Topics line
You should now get the Cutomise page again, showing 100 when 50 used to be in Number of Threads in Active Conversations
Click Active Conversations (to get you back to Talk)
Check if working; if not, press SHIFT F5 a couple of times.

Littlefish · 11/02/2009 21:27

I promise promise promise you that I've done everything that you've said.

In fact, I've just gone back and done it again.

When I get back to Active Conversations and refresh, it carries on saying "showing 50 conversations" or something like that.

It's driving me mad. I can't go back to classic because it won't stick.

I can't have a hide button so I just have to keep shutting my eyes when I see threads I don't like.

I can only have 50 threads at a time instead of 100

I can only have "threads I'm on" saving threads for 3 days

The list goes on.

Pleeeeeeeeeeease help me

HelenMumsnet · 11/02/2009 21:30

Oh dear, oh dear , I don't know what else to suggest, I'm afraid.

But I will pick BigTech's brains tomorrow and let you know what he says.

Littlefish · 11/02/2009 21:34

Thank you very much Helen

I'll check back on this thread tomorrow.

Sorry for the enormous hijacks Malkuth.

GossipMonger · 11/02/2009 21:35

bollocky bollocks!

I was farting around and am now on new Mumsnet and want to revert back to Classic and it wont let me!

Am so cross I might leave again!

It will NOT SAVE THE CHANGES so what the heck am I gonna do!!

CatherineMumsnet · 12/02/2009 16:49

Hi Littlefish, are you still having problems?

Littlefish · 12/02/2009 18:37

Yes!

I've tried it on a different laptop (both at home), but I'm still having the same problems.
