Our comments, in MN books, who owns our collective wisdom?

Who owns our comments?

We can request them to be removed from this forum, but not in print. In posting we give consent for them to be on MN on the web, but does that extend to publication in a book.

I am not looking for a fight, it is a serious question, who owns the copyright to our words, if they are in publication? Was there consent to have our collective words printed in a book?

yes, gash is very bad. It came out worse than I'd intended - I was actually thinking about the Gashlycrumb Tinies

But do I really bandy cunt with aplomb - I had no idea!

onebatmother · 29/01/2009 16:39

and if that doesn't make the round-up I'll eat that beard

Wankingguideauthor · 29/01/2009 16:39

No beards. But plenty of those in the new MN educational children's programme "In the Night Ladygarden"

onebatmother · 29/01/2009 16:40

nonononono! That's Morally Wrong!

OhBling · 29/01/2009 16:40

"But I think the idea that Justine is funding her Florida villa and 6 kids at prviate school by selling us out is a bit far from reality."

It's not selling you out. You could talk too loudly on the train and a journalist over hear you and write, "overheard on train by woman with young daughter: ..."

Florida villa? Surely you mean Whitstable fisherman's cottage?

Wankingguideauthor · 29/01/2009 16:43

Ashamed, must change back to "Middleclassbore"...

OhBling · 29/01/2009 16:45

Oops. sorry.

Pudding? PUDDING?
Well, there's a subject in which I do not have a PhD!

at Whitstable beach hut. MUCH better than a Florida villa.

I do think it would only be fair if Justine were to acknowledge contributions on expert and little researched subjects such as pudding with a timeshare week in her beach hut!

All of this makes me wish so much that MN had been around when I was having my babies. I'm very jealous of all those new to it who will come across these books, which I'm sure will be brilliant.

Fantastic foreword, Justine!

I shall only flounce if my expert advice on market research is used without my express permission.

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 17:06

I think that childbirth is covered in the pregnancy book quite a bit although this is a v v v contentious area ...

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 17:09

wotzy I think a book is far less "out there for all eternity" than stuff on the interweb. The chance of someone stumbling across your paragraph in an edition of a book is very very small compared to them just googling you and finding it. What do you feel a book exposes you more?

Mine is breaking new ground too. I do have a short section about conception. Mostly about how it won't happen using the techniques in the book.

Boco · 29/01/2009 17:18

I like Fio's war of the worlds style quote very much.

I've realised that I don't actually give very good advice so I am sure I can't be in it. Which is fine, because I have NVQ2 in felting and i'd sue your arses.

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 17:19

roof felting or fuzzy felting?

Boco · 29/01/2009 17:20

fuzzy

fuckitgoblin · 29/01/2009 17:22

So, will the co-authers and contributers (aka Mumsnetters) be getting a gratis copy of the book they assisted in creating by way of collective knowledge? (went to type 'intelligence' but then thought better of it )

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 17:22

That's okay, the Toddler Book only covers Roof Felting

Lulumama · 29/01/2009 17:24

am presuming MN HQ will be sending me a big wad of cash if the words 'have you tried sex and nipple stim?' turn up anywhere

interesting debate. will read it all now
