Our comments, in MN books, who owns our collective wisdom?

Who owns our comments?

We can request them to be removed from this forum, but not in print. In posting we give consent for them to be on MN on the web, but does that extend to publication in a book.

I am not looking for a fight, it is a serious question, who owns the copyright to our words, if they are in publication? Was there consent to have our collective words printed in a book?

It IS a lovely Foreword, I blubbed a SMALL BIT

God I am shitting myself about what you are all going to think. I hope I don't get beaten up in the toilets

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 15:12

oh AND you know, I think it's GREAT and REALLY IMPORTANT that this sort of book is written and out there in the public sphere - MUMS giving COLLECTIVE WISDOM and shared advice from EXPERIENCE rather than the old-fashinoed ONE-PERSON-GURU approach which is crazy.

It is time for a PARADIGM SHIFT in the world of parenting manuals and Mumsnet should be the ones who lead the way. There is so much good and sensible advice here and REASSURING advice too - I think these books will be 100x more useful than any other book on the parenting shelves. I'm very proud to have been part of the project.

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 29/01/2009 15:16

Superb forward MN

MP - how do you feel about being "outted"?

Threadworm · 29/01/2009 15:17

Interesting that the has Guardian started (a few years ago)an agony page with a series of "readers' views" on a problem, instead of an "expert's". Obv influenced by chat forums.

So the paradigm shift is already there and MN books will prob fit with that.

Good luck with it MP. HOPE that the BOOK DOESN'T have RANDOM capitalisation.

I think that is the sensible approach

The Title 'Coarse Fisherman' were well ahead of the game - they have been using readers' wives for years.

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 15:26

I don't think there is a list anywhere no

Watsthestory I'm not sure that would really work as there are probably around (wild estimatation) 20,000 words in the text which are from MNers and name-changers either quoted directly or indirectly so we'd need to change the format and not quote from so many people which would defeat the object

Also loads of quotes I wrote down and then forgot who said them and by the time I tried to look them up the quotes had disappeared from the chat archives...

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 15:31

also I have no idea who anyone really is, I only know their chat-names

So I'd have to send thousands of CATS and Gerry@mumsnet would have to look them up in her Notebook Of Who Is Who and then she'd get REALLY annoyed after the first 200 or so

cocolepew · 29/01/2009 15:34

Will there be any in the book?

I expect to see MP in my nearest shopping center signing books.

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 15:40

I am shitting myself MOST about the Special Needs chapter

God I sweated and cried over that one

I really hope you all think it is a balanced chapter

It was REALLY REALLY hard

Leeza2 · 29/01/2009 15:44

congratulations MP [ leeza graciously ignores mp's rude commenst about her boring name]

boffin mum - i think you are slightly up yourself. why is your " professional" advice any more valid than anyone else's here? please read MP's comments below about "experts" . i mean the pretentious one about a paradigm shift

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 15:45

leeeeeeeeeeeeza

BoffinMum · 29/01/2009 15:45

Well, you've lost this MNetter. I'm only posting on my ante-natal group now and then I am off. Keep going until you reach the lowest common denominator, Justine, like all the other parenting websites. I'm off back to edit Wikipedia entries in my spare time instead.

morningpaper · 29/01/2009 15:46

What was your expertise Boffinmum?

AmIOdetteOrOdile · 29/01/2009 15:47

So when do we get to rip it apart review it?
