Testing Testing - Ok so now here's our new look (but you don't have to have it, do you hear?)

This is a sneak preview of our redesign - it's planned across the whole site but we thought we'd give you a preview of Talk so you could give us your thoughts. ETA is early in the new year (God willing).

Two things we should make clear:

First Customise talk and Mn Classic WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE so don't panic if you really hate it!

Second it's not finished yet so not everything works perfectly - it's a test site.

You might wonder why we are bothering with a redesign by the way. We have had quite a lot of feedback that newcomers find the site a little hard to find their way round at first so we are trying to simplify it. We haven't changed much overall in nine years but we've added quite a few bits and bobs on, and to newbies it can be quite daunting we think.

And one more thing - we've found in the past (and we know ourselves) that change can be disorienting but do give it a go for a wee while before you trash it completely, please? .

There's no link to it yet - YetMoreTech will post it in a minute - he wants to add more caveats before he posts it up!

Hope you like it (or at least don't loathe it) - let us know your thoughts.

Oh come ON ... dh is being mock-patient that I'm STILL on this damn computer.

YetMoreTech · 19/12/2008 21:51

As your dear leader says, keep in mind this is still a bit of a work in progress. There are lots of links that either don't work or don't go anywhere, but no need to tell us about them - we know they're there. However, we are interested to hear if you find it pleasing on the eye (or not), easier to navigate (or not) and so on.

The following link will take you to the test site. It is a snapshot of the live site from a while back, so you'll find lots of old posts there. ANYTHING POSTED ON THERE WILL NOT BE COPIED BACK TO THE REAL SITE. That does mean you can post any old nonsense as you wish however, which I think some people might enjoy...

Lastly, keep in mind it's experimental, might disappear at any moment and is not on as powerful hardware as the live site, so it might be slower.

Right, knock yourselves out...

RubberDuck · 19/12/2008 21:53

Oooo... I rather like it.

It is much more easily navigable.

I normally skip topics entirely and just bookmark Threads I'm On, but that topic list is actually useable.

yousaidit · 19/12/2008 21:53

very nice!

Blondilocks · 19/12/2008 21:54

I like that. I think the screen looks a lot more tidy & it was easier to find topics etc.

tiredemma · 19/12/2008 21:54

OOOH MI GUSTA!!!!

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 19/12/2008 21:54

It won't let me post! It is saying my username and password comb is invalid which it isn't. Is this a cunning plan to kick us undesirables out?

SnowballsintheSky · 19/12/2008 21:54

T'is different but I think I likey...

MistleSQUONKandWine · 19/12/2008 21:55

d'ye know, I like it.

Really, I think it is much easier on the eye, much more welcoming to potential newbies and probably easier to navigate.

well done

(but you know we'll find something we don't like, don't ye....)

MissusHoHoHo · 19/12/2008 21:55

like it! agree with Blondilocks...

Tee2072 · 19/12/2008 21:55

I really like it. Much more user friendly!

RubberDuck · 19/12/2008 21:56

Do we have to wait until the New Year until it's active? Can't we have it as our Christmas pressie?

VinegarTitsTheSeasonToBeJolly · 19/12/2008 21:57

I'm the only one who doesnt like arent i

I like the old version better, looks more professional and neater, new version looks big and scruffy

Sorry

AdventCandleQueen · 19/12/2008 21:57

I like to drop-downs on the topic list.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 19/12/2008 21:58

Well i'm with you VT since it won't let me bloody post anything!

RubberDuck · 19/12/2008 21:58

The only thing I would say is, could the ad bar on the right be a little bit smaller. It does seem to have a fair chunk of the screen real-estate - more so than on this design.
