dear MNHQ please could you do something about all the threads

about baby P in the news. The amount of them is getting bizarre and mawkish. surely one thread to discuss/debate and one for the weeping wailing and woe it's me, would do.
PLEASE
(and before someone berates me for starting another one, I have posted it rather than emailing MN hq in the hope that If people agree. MN will take more notice)

i agree and was just about to do the same, tis like the madelaine McCann debacle all over again .

one thread that won;t close at 1000 posts would be preferable to many, many in active convos

thank you

Bucharest · 16/11/2008 15:34

Agreed. With the proviso that the "if you don't agree with MeMeMeMe then don't post" bollocks gets knocked on the head.

belgo · 16/11/2008 15:39

I agree. I've lost count of the number I have hidden.

giddykipper · 16/11/2008 15:41

Agree. I'm getting bored of hiding them.

Fiveplusbump · 16/11/2008 15:41

I agree .

Anifrangapani · 16/11/2008 15:41

Oh yes please, please with a very large cherry on top.

rislip · 16/11/2008 15:43

Oh yes, well said 2 shoes.

mamadiva · 16/11/2008 15:47

Me too although I have posted on them but dont see the point in having loads.

twinsetandpearls · 16/11/2008 15:52

I have only seen one and that was one complaining about all the other threads.

janeite · 16/11/2008 15:53

Hurray - yes, I agree.

EnchantedwithEdwardCullen · 16/11/2008 15:54

I have deliberatly avoided them, and the news ... I have no idea what happened to that poor baby and have no intention of reading the details so the amount of threads that are in active convos about it is hard to ignore.

combustiblelemon · 16/11/2008 15:54

I agree. It will allow people to discuss something that has roused such strong feelings whilst also allowing those who find it deeply distressing to hide the thread. Even if you just asked people to confine posts to the 'In The News' topic. There was a thread in Parenting last night!

electra · 16/11/2008 16:07

I don't like them either but you can't tell people what to post...

broguemum · 16/11/2008 16:10

I agree. I find it very distressing when I go to chat to get away from the world and find thread titles that bring it all back again.

I don't agree.

I think MNHQ's policy of keeping INTERVENTION TO A MINIMUM is the right one.

I agree the threads on this matter are mawkish but I don't have to join them if I don't want to. I have the choice - I don't want MNHQ to choose for me.

OracleInaCoracle · 16/11/2008 16:24

agree with the op, im horrified by the case, but really dont want to read thread after thread about it, and they keep appearing!

lulumama · 16/11/2008 17:29

i think that minimum intervention sits well with reducing the threads on this topic to 1 thread. it makes it easier all round, for those upset / offended / disturbed by the threads to hide one thread, rather than multiple threads. and those that wish to discuss it, have one set place where they can 'meet' to chat about it.

minimum is not the same as no intervention

MNHQ did this re the Madelaine McCann newstory, and I think, as i posted earlier, it is appropriate to do this again for this news topic

combustiblelemon · 16/11/2008 17:30

MN policy of keeping intervention to a minimum presumes that people are courteous and intelligent enough to actually use the topic provided and check that there aren't already three threads about it before starting there own.

Ambi · 16/11/2008 17:31

Yep OP I totally agree, fed up of constantly hiding threads

2shoes · 16/11/2008 17:47

I suggest everyone who disagrees has a look at one of the threads and see's the kind of sick stuff people are posting talk about tmi(sick emotion)
