Those who objected to the Chat topic in Ye Olde Days of Mumsnet

Do you post on it?

That's what I want to know. It was before my time, I'm only a wee young whippersnapper of two years' standing but I have caught the references from the Haggard Old Timers that the introduction of Chat caused a lot of ructions.

It's obvious that a chat room is similarly contentious. After careful consideration I think I'm agin' it (sorry, lou ) but if one is set up I doubt I will be able to resist getting involved.

Hence my question. Do those who objected to Chat post on it? Or do you steadfastly ignore those threads in righteous indignation that your objections were overruled?

And if I object to a Chat Room, and we get one, and I go in it, will everyone say I have no moral fibre and go "ha! you hypocrite!"?

Nope! Exactly... I loved the chatty threads. Kept me sane when I was at home of a night drinking. I felt like I was having a drink with pals.

it was cod and toothache who taght me how to use the emotcions on the chat thread 2 years ago and cod called me "fiona" and I didnt know how she knew my name

Bozza · 10/03/2005 15:22

Well it was a bit more obvious then though!

CountessDracula · 10/03/2005 15:23

It wasn't 2 years ago, c'mon Tech tell us!

I would say 1 year

tortoiseshell · 10/03/2005 15:25

I think it was summer 2003

tortoiseshell · 10/03/2005 15:26

here's one thread (toothache, you might not want to look though)

Toothache · 10/03/2005 15:31

Good god now you've frightened me!!! Why wouldn't I want to look????

tortoiseshell · 10/03/2005 15:32

Don't be frightened - you just had a bit of a rough ride on that one! Wouldn't want to reawaken any bad memories of threads!

Toothache · 10/03/2005 15:35

Ah I seeeeeeeeeeeeeeee that was the thread where I was blamed single handedly for dragging MN down and 'introducing nonense'. I do miss lil and all those others ( I especially like the "No offence but....")

Was that really all down to me? WOW!

Luckily I don't have PND anymore and am thicker skinned. Plus I would be proud as punch if the whole CHAT idea was blamed on me! What a responsibility!

tortoiseshell · 10/03/2005 15:35

I think the word was 'banal'!

And I wanted a chat topic So now I don't need to feel guilty about posting on threads there anymore .
Know RR is around still and Toothache of course, but wondered about Meanmum and StripyMouse. Are you out there ladies, maybe under new names?
And Bobbins [sigh]. We all miss you so much. Really hope you are OK. Still think of you and Harvey a lot you know

Toothache · 10/03/2005 15:59

Mumsnet, thankfully has come a long way from then.... and publicly naming, shaming and humiliating MN'ers doesn't happen that often anymore. I don't think I'm going to read through that whole thread again as I don't think I'm THAT thickskinned just yet.... and I've had a bad day at work!

Toothache · 10/03/2005 16:00

Marina - I miss Bobbins too and think about little Harvey. I was so moved by her story. Just so tragic and sad. But to hear her battling on was and is still inspiring.

Marina · 10/03/2005 16:02

I know Toothache How are things with you and your useless mother btw?

Toothache · 10/03/2005 16:05

Just the same. She starts her new job on the 22nd March. She STILL won't find out if she can look after the kids on a Friday, she just kee[s saying "it'll be all right". Well I can't count on than.... so I'm moving dd to a child minder whilst ds stays at the Nursery. Great eh?

Marina · 10/03/2005 16:10

Really not what you need. I'm so sorry .

tortoiseshell, thankyou so much for linking that thread. Now I know what the Golden Days of Mumsnet were like - when everyone got on, and there was no nastiness, no flouncing, no name calling, no disagreements: just an intellectual meeting of minds and a community sharing wisdom and kindness with each other.

PMSL It was just as bad as it is now!

So when was it like that? When the only poster was suedonim and she couldn't really argue with herself could she?

To Cod, especially, thanks for taking the trouble to post...I feel a big, fat, sloppy, cuddlesome ((((HUUUUUUG)))) coming on - just for you. Bless
