Those who objected to the Chat topic in Ye Olde Days of Mumsnet

Do you post on it?

That's what I want to know. It was before my time, I'm only a wee young whippersnapper of two years' standing but I have caught the references from the Haggard Old Timers that the introduction of Chat caused a lot of ructions.

It's obvious that a chat room is similarly contentious. After careful consideration I think I'm agin' it (sorry, lou ) but if one is set up I doubt I will be able to resist getting involved.

Hence my question. Do those who objected to Chat post on it? Or do you steadfastly ignore those threads in righteous indignation that your objections were overruled?

And if I object to a Chat Room, and we get one, and I go in it, will everyone say I have no moral fibre and go "ha! you hypocrite!"?

Ha ha, I loved re reading that old thread. I was someone who objected to chat and called it banal but I'm sure I've posted there. I will admit to deliberately not posting on _chat or zzchat as it was called briefly (to make it go to the bottom of the topic list or something I think as people objected to it appearing way up there with the other topics beginning with C, hilarious, looking back!) at the beginning because I thought it would be a climb down since I'd slagged it off but now I don't care. So there

WideWebWitch · 10/03/2005 22:25

And I've been here 3 years so a medium timer.

Gwenick · 10/03/2005 22:27

having read that thread - I have to say if that's the type of dinner party some of you old timers like - you're welcome to the - I prefer them a little more 'refined' myself

pupuce · 10/03/2005 22:34

I am sure I was against it - I think I rarely read them or post on them but I am sucker for pregnancy, childbirth and BF threads

Coddy - I was rather fickle! I was also bladdered when I was posting on that thread. I actually smoked double that night I was so pissed off.

Prufrock · 11/03/2005 09:26

I wasn't saying that less intelligent people chat - but you have to admit that a debate about how gorgeous Hugh Jackman is requires slightly less considered thought than a debate on whter people have a moral responsibility to immunise their children.
Adn in the old days it just wasn't possible to "chat" - I can remember when last day would bring up less than 50 conversations
I'm not even sure myself whether Mumsnet is better or worse than it used to be. It's just different.

SueW · 11/03/2005 09:34

I don't think I ever commented. I neither deliberately read or avoid the chat threads.

I've reset the Active Conversations link for my PC though so that it shows the last 150 as often there won't be anything I'm interested in during the last 50. And now I'm working more, I'm finding I can't keep up anyway.

(How do any of you find time to post at work? I just don't have any time to do that kind of thing at work. I'm not run off my feet and stressed out, just there's always something that needs doing. Only posting now cos I've come home for a break)

Ameriscot2005 · 11/03/2005 09:46

I like chat rooms (especially with a bottle of wine at my side), but never posted on any of the chat threads here as I don't like there to be a record of the jibberish, and I like to see who can read the messages.
