Is it possible to have an 'IGNORE' feature for threads?

I have already asked mumsnet for this and they say they have no plans but I'd be interested to see if anyone else would appreciate an 'ignore' feature - like a reverse 'watch'. If you put an 'ignore' on a thread it wouldn't appear in your active convos.

Personally I would find this helpful after the huge number of distressing threads that can get very unpleasant.

Anyone else?

ha ha, I am finding these conversations about what mumsnet should and shouldn't have amusing today! We could be here for ever!

WideWebWitch · 09/03/2005 10:39

sorry, notasbraveasenid, your post wasn't there when I posted, clearly your situation isn't amusing, I meant all the hand wringing is. No offence intended.

Mind you, there is a danger that we all spend all day clicking on threads I'm watching, threads I'm ignoring, 'my active conversations', discussing whether chat should be allowed or not and as a result disappear up our own bottoms for far too long to post any advice to anyone on anything

NomDePlume · 09/03/2005 11:01

I think Enid makes a very valid point with this thread. I'd like to go back to Flossam's first point, if I may...

"But if you don't want to look at them, don't click on them?"

That is, of course, fair enough, but the fact remains that a lot of MNers (me included) then feel a level of guilt or heartlessness for avoiding the distressing threads because we know that all we can give is a few lines of comforting words that will never be enough because the problems goes much deeper and requires real professional help.

I'd like to be able to 'ignore' the 'for sale' threads as it really annoys me at certain times of the day, when people who seem to be running a shop or something flood the active convos by bumping their threads for the 20th time, really annoys me, teatime everyday!
Pushes the threads off the board and then you have to go looking for them in topics.

HardcoreEnid · 09/03/2005 11:12

notasbraveasEnid, you should cat me as sadly we clearly have had very similar life experiences

FairyMum · 09/03/2005 11:20

Yes, I'd like it. Would be nice to edit a bit more than you can at present!

Marina · 09/03/2005 11:30

Both varieties of Enid fully understand why an Ignore feature would be suitable. Feel I could use it sensibly myself so it's a yes please for me on this one

mummytosteven · 09/03/2005 11:33

Sorry for my earlier comment, Enid.

HardcoreEnid · 09/03/2005 11:41

Hi

Well we did say we had no plans, but I'll put this on our list of things to discuss at the next mumsnet meeting (early April) and see if folks think it's a feasible idea.

Oh, I woudln't ignore the bra threads, was trying to count the number of bras yesterday - got to 18 then gave up.

Don't like the idea of a lock option, especially not from a mod.
