Where have my colons gone?!

I've noticed recently that if you type a sentence that ends with a colon, if (e.g) you're linking to something, that once you press 'enter', the colon disappears.

I realise that this is most certainly not a first world problem, but for a grammar pedant it's troubling

Incidentally, I've checked this on two different browsers (Safari and Brave) and the same thing happens.

Oooh, I'm having the same issue. I thought my keyboard was knackered but I've just checked by typing a colon in an email and it works fine - so thanks for bringing this to light, OP. Colon is not working on MN.

Is there a text effect that is triggered by :a colon either side of a phrase: in the same way that two * make bold and two ^ make italic?

Indeed, no colon would be distressing!
And intriguing to think OP's just disappeared... until I realised this was just about punctuation.

I get the same problem using MN with the Firefox browser. Not all the time though, on and off, and more on (ie colons will appear and stay) than off.

Just checked on DuckDuckGo and it's the same there
