Can we have a Wanker's Corner?

Hello.

It's been noted in the past that there are some pretentious wankers amongst us who like to discuss some general subjects (eg.Porn, Religion) in a fairly, erm.. academic manner, and that this sometimes seems to intimidate and/or infuriate other posters.

There doesn't seem to be an easy solution to this problem: there's no doubt that people really do feel intimidated and that it might prevent them from posting on a subject that concerns them. It also must feel hijack-y at times.

At the same time, it's hard for the Wanker's to be told that they mustn't post anything that might intimidate.

Would it be possible to have a special place, with very hard chairs to keep us awake, that we may call our own?

"don't see many of those round here, do you?"

Swedes · 30/06/2008 13:39

Custardo - Are you a reformed character? Do you denounce your (love of pornography) past? Or are you doing wholesale denial?

Tortington · 30/06/2008 14:51

Porno stash? tho swedes....from nowhere.

Me thinks you are holding grudge about something.

spit it out now, don't be shy.

Tortington · 30/06/2008 14:56

i don't have a 'stash' funny thing to randomly accuse someone of having on a thread that doesn't relate to that topic

onebatmother · 30/06/2008 16:10

Custardo, I think Swedes was perhaps referring to your questionnaire answers on that thread (a while ago) about whether we or our dp's used porn, and what we thought of it. I think 'stash' was figurative..

OP posts:
Tortington · 30/06/2008 16:13

why bring up that thread at all?

onebatmother · 30/06/2008 16:23

I think because this thread was in part motivated by how some people responded to'academic' language, from me and others, on that particular thread and others.

And also perhaps because it looked as though things might kick off on this thread at that point (and it was very refreshing that it didn't, I thought)

OP posts:
Tortington · 30/06/2008 16:31

i understand how you would like to not fraternise with the proles ( figuatively) in debate - as simplistic POV's are so beneath the high brow retorts, it's hardly worth responding to.

Still not sure what naming me specifically and refering to a fictual stash - from another thread had to do with anything?

I though that it wasn't the done thing.

onebatmother · 30/06/2008 16:37

Let's not go there re 'simplistic povs' Custardo, the OP says nothing about not wanting to respond to 'proles', and we left it quite nicely earlier on.

OP posts:
Tortington · 30/06/2008 16:39

figuritively speaking - with a smile... humour not negativity.

wtf is going on today?

onebatmother · 30/06/2008 16:41

no idea - only been on this thread while doing invoices, apart from a quick look at the 'she's nicked my baby name and keeps copying me..' thread.

Off into the sunshine now

Do you think Morningpaper might make a special mention each week to wanker of the week?

Tortington · 01/07/2008 13:22

let's hope so

IorekByrnison · 01/07/2008 18:49

I said this would end in tears.

You are all very very funny indeed. I love The Wank Tank. And I very much enjoyed the UQD vignette.

onebatmother · 02/07/2008 14:25

hello Iorek!

Did you have a lovely holiday? I have been wracking my brains since you said you were going somewhere 'quite boring', trying to narrow it down...

At first I was convinced you were going for a midweek break here but then I realized that air travel was involved.

OP posts:
Swedes · 02/07/2008 14:53

I'd like to nominate Anna888 for the wanker of the week prize for this contribution
"Lots of forward planning on objectives (that involves a lot of negotiation and compromise) and then working backwards to optimise execution." on the what makes family life work thread.

onebatmother · 02/07/2008 15:03

NO!!!!!!

what the FUCK does she mean?

Really? How can you 'work backwards' to optimise execution? After the event?

UnquietDad · 02/07/2008 15:05

I've only just seen the "novel opening." Very good. If I wrote porn it would probably end up being like that.

IorekByrnison · 02/07/2008 15:14

Yes thank you, onebat. Harpenden was lovely. We prefer to fly to Hertfordshire from South London - makes you feel as though you are really getting away from it all.

Anna8888888 is hysterical. But is that really the kind of wankery we're after?

Swedes · 02/07/2008 15:18

Onebat - LOL - That is one of the more exciting venues (it is terrific fun) but the real action happens here Do you fancy coming up for a night out?

You might fall instantly in love and start house-hunting without delay: It come highly recommended as a place to live. See
here.

Swedes · 02/07/2008 17:22

Onebat there is a fashion show at Iorek's hotel the week after next. Do you fancy coming along? It's a bit like London fashion Week only different

Swedes · 02/07/2008 17:24

I imagine Iorek has already taken advantage of the guests' special pre-bookable offer?

You are all welcome to come back to my house afterwards for canapes and Sherry.

onebatmother · 02/07/2008 20:39

Oh Swedes, you do make me laugh. Esp 'terrific fun'

I'm positive I would start house-hunting without delay, though, in Harpenden. Many househunters require access to the M25 or London, and the Telegraph's recommendation is obviously, for me, a deal-maker.
I can't remember the last time The Tel and I diverged, after all.

But - for me - proximity to the cutting edge is key. Research has revealed that Harpenden's bowling greens are second to none in the crispness of their edging, so I am comfortable that my key criteria will be met.

I'm rather anxious, however. Preliminary enquiries have yielded nothing more than a gararj (not quite sure what this means?) for 300K.

margoandjerry · 02/07/2008 20:54

oh can I be a wanker homie?

I don't go on the porn threads for fear of being told I am a prude (which I am) or ugly (ditto ) so would welcome what they call in the wanker trade a safe space for intellectual discussion of such topics(though with the option always open to become very childish and start sniggering at important moments).

Also, I have access to some great wankerish material. Extant wankers might like to consider this as my entry into the competition to find the most wankerish post on the most wankerish blog on the entire www: behold

I particularly like "must be a serious translation" - as if there is also one done by Kathy Lette.

onebatmother · 02/07/2008 21:11

Aaah, margoandjerry, I was hoping you would come, and you have not disappointed me with your literature for a sojourn in the developing world link

I really, really like the guy who says put it all on a thingummy and recharge it, like the Africans do. You utter arse.
