Is it acceptable to imply another poster is a pervert because they disagree with you about a topic?

So in a feminism thread, the members leep insinuating that I am a man with some sort of pee fetish because basically I disagree with them that women have to strip half naked or routinely wear several more layers than men. I've reported these posts as personal attacks but they dont seem to get deleted.

Can I clarify that it is ok to insinuate that someone is a different sex and a pervert because they disagreed with me? I'm asking before I head to other threads.

Yep.

TheHateUGive · Yesterday 13:18

That's not the topic of the disagreement. It's literally because people are saying women have many more layers of clothes to remove before they pee and I am asking what these layers are. Then I was told I am a male pervert who wants to hear about how women pee.

Disagreeing with you isn't a personal attack unless they're actively calling you names. And some threads can be quite robust. People can be all shades of unpleasant but that's the internet. If you can't cope then don't comment 🤷

They said i am a man and a pervert. Is that enough name calling?

Maybe stop asking women what their layers are? It does sound like you are aiming for details that are none of your business.

I mean pervert is a bit strong but why are you bothered if people think you're male?

I've been accused many times of being male by people who can't seem to accept someone can have a vagina and disagree with them.

But given none of us know what sex anyone here is, it was never going to bother me 🤷‍♂️

Honestly? It's triggering as a Black women because it is something that white people use against Black women often as part of their overall racism. I'm not saying they all know i am Black, but that is why it is genuinely upsetting.

@Anotherdayanotherexcuse And no I cant imagine the numerous extra layers that women wear that men do not.

I asked after someone said that women have a lot more to remove. I asked what the "lot more" was. Quite simple really. Still haven't got an answer.

Go and look up the term obtuse. Then you can decide if it's an insult or not.

My pregnancy has no bearing on my feelings on the matter. My race does.

You must be new to the internet 😁. People will say the dumbest things when they can hide behind a screen and avoid accountability. I wouldn't take random people online's comments personally.

So it it triggering to you especially, because people code you as a male for asking what underwear women are wearing?

Aye right.

This is a very odd thread, but to try to allay the OP's fears.
I have been called male and black several times on forums, I am female and white, so far I haven't been accused of being pregnant, but then I do talk about the 1970's and my grandchildren a lot....so maybe I will be spared that one.

Does it matter how many layers a woman has to peel off to pee? Some like to be heavily padded, some go commando...who cares?

Overtheatlantic · Yesterday 14:16

I mean I honestly couldn’t say what all the layers are but perhaps in cultures where women dress very modestly it’s more involved? For most western women it’s pants and trousers or skirts. I don’t know but I do know that MN has had a lot of threads lately with heightened emotions.

AmberTigerEyes · Yesterday 14:17

I am sitting here in a dress and also wondering what the extra layers would be? I am physically wearing fewer layers than a man in boxers and shorts.

In all truth OP, name calling is frequent on MN and it is often done by posters who are too proud to admit they are wrong so they resort to personal attacks.

Reporting helps but often it’s best to just disengage and come back in a day or so when heads are cooler. Anyone seeing the exchange can see who is being rude and who is not.

Too, some posters confuse questioning a rationale with being diametrically opposed. It’s annoying when you do agree with the general issues raised but not the stated reasons why - like you can be for women to have single sex spaces for toileting but not agree it’s due to extra layers of clothing- but they’re hurling accusations at you.

I find it helps to state the parts of a post that you do agree with before questioning details you don’t think are correct.

Although OP is referring to more layers to remove when needing a pee
Which of course women do

with the exception of those men who prefer to sit of course

It’s hard to understand what other than a fetish would lead someone to ask women how they undress to urinate while berating them for not allowing men into their spaces.
