Is it acceptable to imply another poster is a pervert because they disagree with you about a topic?

TheHateUGive · Yesterday 13:10

So in a feminism thread, the members leep insinuating that I am a man with some sort of pee fetish because basically I disagree with them that women have to strip half naked or routinely wear several more layers than men. I've reported these posts as personal attacks but they dont seem to get deleted.

Can I clarify that it is ok to insinuate that someone is a different sex and a pervert because they disagreed with me? I'm asking before I head to other threads.

OP posts:

Although OP is referring to more layers to remove when needing a pee
Which of course women do

with the exception of those men who prefer to sit of course

Edited

Sorry, how are these extra layers?

Men remove the same number of layers of clothing to pee from their urinogenital area as women.

Standing or sitting.

Technically, neither men nor women fully remove any layers to pee.

AmberTigerEyes · Yesterday 14:35

Same clothing = same number of layers.
Man in kilt, same number of layers as me a woman in a dress.
Unless it’s true men in kilts are always going commando. Then I suppose that would be one case where it’s fewer layers.

Does anyone else think this is about the stupidest justification for women to have single sex spaces? As opposed to, well, safety? Dignity?

AmberTigerEyes · Yesterday 14:38

I think I would not even mention this we need single sex spaces because we wear more layers of clothing. It’s right there along with we need single sex spaces because men leave very big stinky turds.

They do not.

Men open their flies, pop out their penis
and urinate standing up. No layers removed.

Men don’t take down their trousers
they unzip
Men don’t have to remove tights
Men don’t have to pull down their knickers because men can wear underwear with an opening so they simply open the opening

This is why men have urinals. They can zip and go

I can’t believe I’m having to explain this

Are those arguing otherwise possibly applying the TRA definitions of men and women while everyone else is using the normal one?

FWIW
i haven't said it’s the reason we need single sex spaces

It is one reason that we need more facilities than men

It’s also a reason in terms of voyerism. If you are lowering clothing and exposing yourself to use the toilet men in adjoining facilities can get footage.

Which they have done

My pregnancy has no bearing on my feelings on the matter. My race does.

Nobody knew or mentioned your race. They implied you might be a man because you wanted details about how they toilet.

Possibly

But they are saying women and women are women biologically
If they mean transwomen then they’d be saying it

They aren’t the same so 🤷‍♀️

I can’t believe you’re explaining it in such elaborate detail either, we all know what we are taking about.

The disagreement seems to be over the use of removing layers when what is meant is pulling down layers of clothing further.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · Yesterday 15:01

Women pull layers down to their knees to wee. Men don’t.

No-one has to remove anything.

SpudGunToo · Yesterday 14:53

I am certainly not.
No one is actually removing layers of clothing to pee.
Clothing is being pushed down or to one side.
The number of layers of clothing is the same so why that is even mentioned makes no sense.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s a very weak argument for single sex spaces and not the sword I would fall on. The arguments saying women need safety, dignity, privacy are much better. Number of layers of clothing worn is irrelevant. Don’t women in a swimming pool or gym need their own toilets too? Even if all they have on is an itty bitty bikini?

Exactly, no one is removing any layers of clothing and it doesn’t matter how many layers a woman is or is not wearing compared to a man, we should have single sex spaces.

AmberTigerEyes · Yesterday 15:10

But the point of the thread is name calling posters as perverts is not ok.
I completely agree with OP on that.

LizardyGuts · Yesterday 15:10

You don't know who is who on the internet. There are plenty of men masquerading as women to get their kicks. I am always suspicious of any poster asking how other posters do xyz, whenever that xyz relates to anywhere intimate on the body. This is all that's happening here OP.

To avoid accusations in future, you can instead write what you do, or what you think other women do, rather than ask people to reveal what they do. "I only have pants and trousers - I don't understand why other women would wear more layers?" is less creepy than "Tell me what you're wearing."

itsanamething · Yesterday 15:12

Tell me you've never worn a jumpsuit and regretted visiting a public toilet.

Brunchatstephanies · Yesterday 15:13

I am very surprised that a woman wouldn’t know the extra layers women have to take off when peeing. I think I’d assume that a person was being at best obtuse and at worst a perverted male if they were looking for that clarity from women on the internet. I haven’t seen your thread @TheHateUGive so I hope you’ve had some time to reflect since.

tights/knickers without an opening like boxers have/sanitary towels/ jumpsuits

I mean it is fair to ask is there a woman alive who would not know this.

🤣🤣
I felt the need to explain because tbh it’s not the first time I’ve had to

Im an architect and I am sick and tired of having to explain how women use a toilet to men around the boardroom to justify why
we need more cublucles
Why
no we can’t share whbs ( ever tried to explain mooncups to a bunch of 60yearnold males🤣)

why the toilet needs to be offset from the centre to allow room for a sanitary bin

Why, no, it’s not OK to sit half on a sanitary bin when needing a wee

Why our knickers don’t have openings at the front ( yes really !)

Why we take so much longer in the loo so need about 3 times the provision of shake and go men

so
sorry about that

Honestly? It's triggering as a Black women because it is something that white people use against Black women often as part of their overall racism. I'm not saying they all know i am Black, but that is why it is genuinely upsetting.

@Anotherdayanotherexcuse And no I cant imagine the numerous extra layers that women wear that men do not.

You're choosing to use an anonymous internet forum where you know full well we cannot actually know the sex of its members.

If you find this triggering, you've picked a funny forum to join.

I completely agree with OP on that.

There are male posters who have made clear that they dress as women and use women’s toilets, it seems a reasonable word to use in that case.

MandyMotherOfBrian · Yesterday 15:26

TheHateUGive · Yesterday 13:19

They said i am a man and a pervert. Is that enough name calling?

They said i am a man and a pervert

After stating that 'Most women aren't in the toilets for a longer time than men', you were asked:
"I take it you aren't a woman then?"

After asking repeatedly what women were wearing/removing when in the toilet, you were asked:
"Are you hoping to get women to talk about what clothing they have to remove and how they go to the toilet?"

Those statements do not equal being called a man or a pervert.

You did, however, say this to FlirtsWithRhinos, which is a particularly nasty insinuation...

"I have no idea what you do that would take you much longer than a guy. It might indicate a doctor is needed though"

I haven’t run across any of these yet. In that rare case I would agree.

However, the name calling of pervert happens to posters who have not stated they were cross dressing men using women’s toilets. Posters who are women.

Given demographics, the assumption should be the poster that is disagreeing is a woman (95% of mumsnet users), not a cross dressing man that also uses women’s toilets (1% of the population, and probably 0.01% of MN users given its reputation as a bastion of common sense feminism).
