Can Mumsnet please address the ongoing site freezing issue?

MN can you please stop this site from freezing!!!! I have already had it multiple times this morning and it is only 06.37 now.

This has been going on for months with many complaining about it. MUMSNET IS THE ONLY SITE THIS HAPPENS ON!!!

As others have done, I have cleared this, that, the other. Nothing changes. I can go a few days without the freezing, but then it starts up again.

Please sort this out!

And can you, for the love of God get rid of the Amazon advert that arrests the screen if you do so much as breathe in the same room as a page it’s on?

Yesterday it entirely disabled Safari on my phone. I had to turn the whole phone off and on again twice before functionality was restored. And I’m still being lurched into Amazon about twenty times a day.

Please Make It Stop.

smelps · 21/05/2026 06:56

I can’t use Mumsnet webpage at all any more as it just won’t load on my iPhone. I had to resort to the app. Also agree with the Amazon advert - it’s so annoying!

Iocanepowder · 21/05/2026 06:59

Agree, i had to stop using the website, now using app but don’t get any notifications if people reply to me.

ParadiseIsNoBunker · 21/05/2026 07:00

And the way it randomly reloads back to the top of a thread. It’s so bloody awful.

One can be half way down a page and ‘weeeeeeeeee!’(although it is not fun), back to the top you go. The only way I can read threads is by bookmarking every post you read so that when you then hit ‘refresh’ after the reload, you’ve at least a chance of getting near to where you were.

I too have done all the clearing of cache, different browsers etc etc etc.

It doesn’t happen on any other site.

It’s shite MN. Shite.

I'm sure it would be helpful to Mumsnet if you gave more details about your phone and browser to help them look into this. I use chrome on an Android phone and get none of the problems you describe.

Eucatastrophilia · 21/05/2026 07:38

Safari on iPhone using the app.

Londonnight · 21/05/2026 08:02

@TulipsMakeMeHappy

I have done just that, as have others. It still happens and nothing gets done.
Laptop and tablet, both using chrome.

Why is it only mumsnet that has this issue? If it is do to with whichever browser I use, it would be happening on other sites too --- it doesn't. It is only mumsnet. This has gone on for months, it isn't a recent issue.

i was also using safari on iphone. Before i switched to the app, it would often make my phone heat up. Like others, it was only mumsnet, never any other site.

BeckyAMumsnet · 21/05/2026 10:27

Hi, everyone.

We’re really sorry about this. We know how frustrating it is, and we want to reassure you that we’re taking it very seriously and that you're not shouting into the void.

Safari/iPhone users seem to be seeing the crashing and freezing most, although we know it isn’t limited to them. The issue seems to be linked to browser memory building up during longer sessions on the site. Ads and other third-party bits can add to that, and Safari can be especially unforgiving.

We don’t want anything on Mumsnet getting in the way of how you use the site, and we’re throwing everything we can at finding a solution. We’re working on this every day and testing changes to make things lighter and more stable, including ad formats and refresh rates.

The Amazon ad issue in the app is separate, and updated Android and iOS app versions have now been released for that. If you use the app, please check you’re on the latest version.

In the meantime, Chrome may be more stable than Safari for longer sessions, and closing old tabs/updating your browser may also help.

Thanks,
MNHQ

@BeckyAMumsnet

You say that long use of the site can be an issue. The freezing happened when I first logged in this morning. It came straight up with site unresponsive. I hadn't even looked at any threads! I always close tabs and use a new one each time I log on.

I use chrome and it is relentless at freezing mumsnet

Hello, @Londonnight you’re right that if it’s freezing as soon as you open the site, that doesn’t really fit the longer session pattern - though it may still be linked to something heavy loading when the page first opens. Thank you, that's helpful context.

Exactly the same for me - totally unusable on safari and the app really isn’t as good.

User33538216 · 22/05/2026 13:13

I am on an iPhone 16e. MN never freezes for me and I never have a single issue.

I pay for premium, and I expect that not having to endure any ads is the reason my MN experience is entirely hassle free.

thenightsky · 23/05/2026 14:41

Mine freezes so badly I can even use the 'wait' or 'exit site' buttons. I have to restart the computer and wait 10 mins. Drives me mad. And this is on both Chrome and Edge.

Haha, I can promise you it won't! On every thread about this for literally years now MN asks for this information to make it look like they're interested and doing something. They're clearly not though because as I say it's been going on for years.

It's the advertising that's causing all the issues - but they won't do anything because that's what's making the money. You're wasting your time I'm afraid OP. On the upside my adblocker seems to be working again on MN and so it's no longer constantly crashing my machine.

ILoveDuckDuckGo · 23/05/2026 21:41

It is the trackers. See how many were prevented when using duckduckgo. No wonder everything slows down. Every single one of the 33 trackers follow you around, create a profile of you and so on.
Change browser and problem solved.
33!!! That’s a new record! It used to be 12-15.
