Yet another ‘advert’ blocking the page 😡

What on earth is this! It’s getting ridiculous now with adverts disrupting the page.
i’m on my iPad.

Hello @Tiddlywinks63 can we please check if that's the video player? If so are you able to click on the x?

I imagine this is the M&S add which is making the site virtually unusable. Especially annoying when it is feminism and M&S is on the boycott list.

As for the "x" - not visible and clicking in where you might expect it to be just brings up the add.

I'm getting these ridiculous huge video ads too, and there's no X to click on. They're not for M&S for me, they're for what looks like melodramatic AI-generated soap operas.

I'm on a laptop, using Safari (which also keeps freezing and crashing whever I use MN, probably because of these ads).

There is no 'x' to click

Not just safari either, I was using a different browser.

I'm also getting huge ads like this, and they're a variety of ads, not M&S.

There's no x to click, you have to wait till it goes then scroll down and another one pops up.

I'm on my laptop currently using Firefox.

Happened to me yesterday too and there was no way of closing the ad or reporting it so I rage quit MN instead.

Morning everyone. We've made a change that we help will solve the problem with those M&S ads. However, we can see some of you are having the same issue with other ads too. Could anyone who's experiencing this please post screenshots of the ads in question, or URLs, and we'll see if we can fix those, too. Thanks!

@BeckyAMumsnet on mine it is a video & I can't use the x.

the one that's bothering me more is the one that emits a horrible noise (squeal?) I can't actually tell which advert it is, but it's terrible especially when it's so quiet at night then this kicks of.

3 ads on one small screen. 2 don’t even have a cross. One is across the post and won’t move.

I hate the response, ‘just close the video’. HOW?!

I reported this issue ages ago. MNHQ asked me to take a video of it happening 🙄 needless to say I couldn’t be bothered. The adverts have ruined this site.

Whatever add it is should not be preventing you from reading the OP's post. I think it switched from M&S but like another poster I rage exited mumsnet. Perhaps that's the idea.......not persuade us to buy, persuade us to leave.

Thanks to everyone who's shared screenshots. We'll look into all those. Just to add, we can see on some of those screenshots that some ads do have the 'x' button top right. Those ads are legitimate and behaving as they should, so can just be closed by clicking on the 'x'. The ones we're still looking into are those that can't be closed at all and don't have the 'x' button.

Still happening here on a laptop using Firefox. If I click on the X, it doesn't close the black square but opens a separate tab at https://privacy.equativ.com/

Got this just now. As others have said, you close it and it just opens in a new tab.

Also getting these with no x to close them. Safari iPad latest OS.

I’m also having this issue. A big black box popping up covering posts so I can’t read them! Safari on iPad. There was no cross in the corner, it hadn’t fully loaded the the black box and there was something grey in the top right corner so I clicked it thinking it might be the cross but it wasn’t.

It’s different to the usual small advert in the bottom right, where there is a cross.

@MixedFeelingsNoFeelings Could we ask you, if you can recreate this, to click the info and ad choices button on the top right and bottom right of the top image and take a screenshot to post here of what happens next? That might help us work out where these are coming from. Many thanks.
