'Trending' threads list appearing partway through a thread

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 23/07/2025 22:26

Is anyone else getting this? It seems to have started today and it's really annoying. I keep missing posts as I see the Trending box and think that's the end of the thread. Is there anyway to go back to normal?

Friendlyuntilitwasnt · 23/07/2025 22:29

Yes mine doing the same today. Android/chrome browser.

NameChangedOfc · 23/07/2025 22:41

Yes! I'm having the same problem.

TeaandHobnobs · 23/07/2025 22:47

Same! I also thought it was the end of the posts. Irritating…

iphone, safari browser

NewAgeNewMe · 23/07/2025 23:53

Same iPhone safari

justasoul · 23/07/2025 23:59

Me too, iPhone safari. I thought I was on infinite scroll but no Confused

Alltheyellowbirds · 24/07/2025 00:05

Me too. I assumed they’d done it deliberately to make us click on more threads, and was annoyed. I hate when sites make changes that they know will disrupt the user experience just to get more clicks.

justasoul · 24/07/2025 00:17

Oh, and my pages are also randomly reloading once I scroll past the ‘trending’ list. Not every time but more often than not.

Myalternate · 24/07/2025 07:01

It’s irritating. I thought I’d finished reading a single page thread only to discover it had moved onto a second page that I’d missed.

It spoils the flow of the thread 😠

Seeline · 24/07/2025 08:52

It's driving me mad!

Don't really see the point either - if you're in the middle of reading a thread, why would you click away to another random thread?
If it's at the bottom, it makes sense to look for a new thread, once you've finished reading the one you've started.

YetAnotherNewNameAgain · 24/07/2025 09:06

I assumed it was a deliberate update.

The site is getting messier and messier to use and I'm on here less and less.

Oh I think it's deliberate too.
MN updates always seem to make the site less user friendly.
They continually ignore requests from users which would be helpful, and then release some update which is pointless, makes the site harder to use, or is just annoying.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 24/07/2025 10:18

Oh I'm sure it's deliberate, just wanted to see if other people also found it annoying (seems so!) and highlight to @mnhq that we'd like it changed back!!

Yes, this exactly! Who is advising them on site design? They need firing.

LilyMumsnet · 24/07/2025 15:57

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. We've introduced this change after some testing, with the aim of making it easier for users to discover other threads that they might find interesting. That said, we completely understand that changes like this can take a bit of getting used to.

We'll be keeping a close eye on how it's used and will take all your feedback into careful consideration as we continue to review it.

NewAgeNewMe · 24/07/2025 16:37

It’s fine at the end of the thread, just not in the middle of it. You have to scroll past it to get to the end of the thread, then scroll back up to click on a thread. It’s better at the end.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/07/2025 16:41

It's bloody annoying 😡

CrossPurposes · 24/07/2025 17:07

It's awful. Like others I have thought that the discussion had ended. Also, I don't want to know what else is being discussed elsewhere particularly if the subject is upsetting or goady or a spoiler.

RaraRachael · 24/07/2025 17:14

Another very annoying change introduced before all the other annoying issues have been solved

butterpuffed · 24/07/2025 17:18

This change is annoying on my mobile but luckily it's not on my chromebook.

Takemybrainaway · 24/07/2025 17:22

Annoying and as pp have said pointless as I wouldn’t scroll back up. Actually not the target as I’ve never clicked on one deliberately wherever it was.

Shnuzzbucket · 24/07/2025 18:23

nope - DO NOT LIKE it at all

meala · 24/07/2025 19:06

This feature is awful. It distorts the flow of a thread and is irritating and intrusive

Zonder · 24/07/2025 19:08

It's really annoying when you're just reading a thread and not interested in wandering off to other threads. I don't know why anyone thought this would be a good idea. It's not.

moonriverandme · 24/07/2025 23:00

It's extremely annoying. I keep thinking I've got to the end of the thread, close it, then have to scroll around trying to find the post again to carry on reading. Please put it back at the bottom of the page. I don't want to look at other similar threads whilst I am in the middle of reading the current one. If I want to look at similar threads I can return to look at the bottom of the page.

Exactly. If they’re trying to go about making us click more they’ve got the wrong priority. They should be aiming to keep us on the site for as long as possible - which means reading all the pages of a thread before starting a new one, not only reading half of the first page before being distracted by something else.

its bonkers as well as annoying.
