Battery draining and phone getting hot

Tallisker · 12/06/2025 12:44

An hour or so on Mumsnet has chomped through 44% of my battery life and my phone is so hot it’s uncomfortable to hold. Also, the screen keeps dimming and dimming making it hard to read.

only happens on Mumsnet, no other app (and you still haven’t fixed the capital letter at the start of a new paragraph)

iPhone 15, most recent iOS

it’s making the app unusable, please fix!

Mine is the same.

I rarely bother looking at MN on my phone anymore what with the random freezing, skipping about the threads and domination of the ads.

Slatterndisgrace · 12/06/2025 12:51

Would Adblock help?

MagpiePi · 12/06/2025 14:41

cba to load it on my phone.
The site should work without it.

PipMumsnet · 12/06/2025 16:43

Hello @Tallisker could we just double check that your phone does this when you are using the Mumsnet app and not when you are using a browser on your phone?
And if it is the app, could you please share the version of the MN app you are using and let us know when the draining started - is it a recent issue or has it always been an issue for you?

Hi Pip it’s very recent, the last couple of days. And it’s the app, not the browser. How can I tell which version of the app it is? I’ve had to accept cookies again recently so I imagine it has updated to the latest one very recently.

And FYI, if I use the app on my iPad, it doesn’t drain the battery and it doesn’t get hot. Just the phone app.

Sorry I perhaps should have @PipMumsnet

Thank you @Tallisker
If you click on the human icon on the top right corner of app when you open it, it will say Mumsnet and the app version at the very bottom of the page. It should be 45.0.12
Thanks again.

Tallisker · 12/06/2025 17:27

Well who knew? It’s 45.0.14 @PipMumsnet

Tallisker · 12/06/2025 17:29

It’s 45.0.12 on my iPad, but it’s the phone which is the problem

Oh dear, it looks like I need to update my app. Sorry about that.

Mymindhasgoneblank · 13/06/2025 18:47

I have the same problem - I've just got a new phone and downloaded the app (40.0.14, which is the version available in the app store) and it's making my phone incredibly hot and draining the battery. I've had to delete it but the version on my old phone (presumably 40.0.12) was fine - is there any way of downloading that one instead @PipMumsnet ?

HebeMumsnet · 16/06/2025 12:32

We're still looking into this issue. @Mymindhasgoneblank - can we ask you what sort of phone you're using? eg Samsung Galaxy, iPhone 15 etc? Thank you!

Mymindhasgoneblank · 16/06/2025 13:47

@HebeMumsnet Thank you - it's an iPhone 16e.

chillinwithmygnomies · 17/06/2025 23:49

Mines the same, making the app unusable as my phone just overheats!

JimothyHalpert · 21/06/2025 08:16

This is happening to me too. App version 45.0.14
on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
It gets too hot to hold. This is a new problem, only noticed in the last week or so.

nocoolnamesleft · 21/06/2025 20:11

In last few days. Just the app. Happening both on my iPhone 13 and on my elderly iPad.

CocoPops39616 · 22/06/2025 13:14

Same here, iPhone 14

PsychoSyd · 22/06/2025 14:00

Me too, iPhone 14 🙁

PsychoSyd · 22/06/2025 15:18

@HebeMumsnetas well as the over heating & battery drain (which I seem to recall happening with the app a few years ago), when I'm listening to Spotify & Mumsnetting at the same time on my phone, Spotify crashes.

GinandGingerBeer · 22/06/2025 15:33

Oh I assumed it was my phone! I’ve had to switch my phone off to cool it down as it became so hot after using it.

Grrrpredictivetex · 26/06/2025 12:36

Is this overheating whilst using the MN app being looked into @HebeMumsnet. It’s the only app on my iPhone that does this.

Grrrpredictivetex · 28/06/2025 09:38

@PipMumsnet any response?

NWL · 28/06/2025 09:39

This happened to me when I used MN on safari too. I now access it via the Google app and it’s been fine ever since.

ticolac · 29/06/2025 12:47

Happening to me now, since my phone updated overnight 2 days ago to iPhone 15 pro, iOS 18.5, app version 45.1.0 (latest available in App Store)
Within 10 mins using it phone becomes worryingly hot

Clitmandu · 29/06/2025 12:54

Same thing happening here. My screen goes dull too.
