MN HQ, could you please reconsider your decision not to remove this board from Active? We’ve had yet another invasion of parents telling us we are in denial and trying to convince ourselves.

What are you in denial about? Or accused of being*
(I’m just being nosey).

That we really do want children.

It’s more “all of you saying how great life without children is sound like you’re trying to convince yourselves”.

Not the same thing, but yesterday I unwisely posted on a stepmum thread saying I would be a terrible stepmum as I can only love my own kids, so I will never be one. It really enraged one poster and I have no idea why.

I have no investment in this board but if we are discussing hiding (or unhiding) boards from Active, can we PLEASE have a setting where we can turn this on and off like we used to be able to do via Customise? Currently we can only opt OUT of seeing certain boards and not opt IN to see any of the hidden-by-default boards.

I would so love to see the SN threads in my active convos again without them showing up for everyone to allow the privacy which is needed for these boards.

But to some of us childless people life is great.
It is for me and im not convincing myself.

I read the thread that's got everyone upset, it really wasn't like that at all, people were just offering their opinions, but that board is a hotbed for people being really easily invalidated and triggered by the existence of parents on this site so if they want to hide away I don't see why not. They're really territorial about anyone posting other points of view anyway.

In exchange for their enclave, I'd like it if they stopped derailing threads on the rest of the site (since parents don't have a MNers with children board to meta about being parents rather than to discuss the mechanics of it) to remind us ad nauseam that some people don't have children on this site and that we're not allowed to talk about how parenting makes us feel, positively or negatively, "because it's a choice".

I was once told it sounds really boring and i must be unhappy to live like that.
Im going to be so lonely in old age.

Its really not no men no drama no kids no pets.
I love to travel and do so alot i cant do that with baggage id never afford it .
We all choose different life paths i chosen mine like every one else.

I knew from the time I was a young teenager that I didn't want children. What I can never understand is the amount of people over the years who have said 'you must be selfish not to want children', and someone said 'only selfish people don't want children'. I just don't get it. If I were 'selfish', then surely I'm not the best person to be a mother? Or do they mean something else? It baffles me.

Oh FFS get a grip. I am childfree by choice and happy, yes a few people are going to think I'm missing out, who cares? They can think what they like, I know they're wrong.

I read that thread, it was absolutely fine. The vast majority of posts were on topic, and it was only the needless overreaction to someone with kids commenting that derailed it.

We don't need to be siloed into echo chambers where we never hear a dissenting opinion. Instead of crying "my eyes! I'm melting!" any time anyone shit-posts, just ignore them.

Hello @KimberleyClark we understand the annoyance posts like this can cause, but we're usually hesitant to take a topic out of Active because it means fewer people can find it. Please do report any troublemakers and we'll take a look. Thanks for raising it, and we'll discuss this further at MNHQ.

Maybe all the parents should stop being triggered by the fact that not everyone wants to be like them and insread of junping onto childfree threads and trying to railroad people sans kids into having them, they can spout their pro-kid agendas on the parenting sub boards instead.

@BeckyAMumsnet I've reported some really nasty comments on that thread and nothing has been done.
