I wondered why this thread was deleted just as I was catching up with it! Message just said it 'broke guidelines' but it's been running for a few days now seemingly without incident or individual posts being deleted, and it seemed to me a valid discussion about the impact of the COL crisis on hospitality and the choices people make about eating out.

This is something I’ve always enjoyed doing, but I just find the financial outlay to be hard to justify now. A fairly average meal is now usually betw...

I read that thread and it seemed innocuous enough! Maybe things got nasty - who knows.

HoldmecloseTonyDanza · 29/05/2025 07:47

I read it too, and it looked like a pretty standard "everything has gotten so expensive" thread - nothing that breaks guidelines. I'd also be interested in knowing why it was deleted!

TreesToday · 29/05/2025 07:51

Me too!

I was following it quite closely (I was on the thread under a previous username) and it didn't seem to be nasty at all - a few civilised differences of opinion around people wanting to eat out but not being prepared to pay the cost of giving hospitality staff a decent wage, but all as far as I could see reasoned and polite argument, no name-calling etc. and I hadn't noticed any individual posts being deleted.

I wondered too!

onceuponatimeinneverland · 29/05/2025 09:46

Snap, I thought it interesting . Wonder what guidelines it broke!

Mydadsbirthday · 29/05/2025 10:50

Oh dear I am sorry I just started another thread asking the same question!

My bad, I should have included the thread details in title.

Me too but as this is a taat it will likely be deleted soon rather than garner any answers

This is in site stiff so will hopefully be answered by MNHQ.

FlightCommanderPRJohnson · 29/05/2025 11:50

I will try reporting my thread so MNHQ see it. Absolutely not intended as a TAAT, I'd just like to know why it was deleted.

I was reading the thread late last night and it was fine.
Maybe it got trolled in the early hours.

I don't think it did - it was up and running around 7am-ish and I didn't see any troll posts. I'd just caught up and was going to add a post, and when it refreshed it was deleted - unless a troll started spamming it between my loading it and refreshing it, but even then, why would MNHQ not just delete the troll posts?

OP posts:
HolesInTheAlbertHall · 29/05/2025 11:54

Sometimes the op is a troll. They then start trolling on other posts and all posts get deleted.

FlightCommanderPRJohnson · 29/05/2025 11:57

It might be that, or PBP I suppose, but the opening post didn't strike me as anything out of the ordinary - not obviously goady or anything like that.

I was just about to catch up with it too and wondered why it was deleted! I’m getting fed up of threads that I get invested in being deleted.

JoMumsnet · 29/05/2025 12:20

Thanks for asking about this thread. It looks like we had a few concerns and needed to check things out behind the scenes, but we've reinstated the thread by now. Sorry for the disruption.

mum2jakie · 29/05/2025 12:20

It was an interesting discussion. I hadn't posted but was following.

Thank you @JoMumsnet - great news that it's back.

It's back @FlightCommanderPRJohnson - weird!

Raises an interesting question for me.... all those threads that are deleted for MN to "take a look behind the scenes" but never come back - does that mean MN just never bother to reinstate them, unless someone raises a question about the deletion 🤔

Edited

I asked exactly this question a while back when I found an old thread in my watched thread list which had been “behind the scenes” for over a year.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/5262441-this-thread-has-been-hidden-until-the-mnhq-team-can-have-a-look-at-it

I do old threads in this state from time to time but there isn’t a button to report them on the message page.

"This thread has been hidden until the MNHQ team can have a look at it." | Mumsnet

What is the policy on this and is there a reason why the message can't be updated when its deleted? This one, for example, has been on your waitlist...
