What the heck is going on?

I've just posted an inoculous thread on AIBU, and I've been torn to shreds.

I've been around here since 2007, and I genuinely don't understand this hostility.

When did the vibe change so massively?

Are we all ok with this?

This isn't what Mumsnet used to be.

OP posts:

I have been around since 2004, and I have never yet created a thread in AIBU. 😃
Been a bear pit for a while. Not that you deserve to be torn to shreds though.

Linked · 25/05/2025 21:24

I’ve been around for many years too. I don’t think it’s changed. I still find it to be a supportive, uplifting place which doesn’t suffer fools gladly. You weren’t torn to shreds, some people just disagreed with you.

Koazy · 25/05/2025 21:35

What was the topic?

SummerIce · 25/05/2025 21:39

There was just one poster who made one critical comment. Ripped to shreds is quite an exaggeration.

ShamrockShenanigans · 25/05/2025 21:42

Oh the deafening sound of us all running to AS 😁

OP, I was really quite surprised to read the thread after reading this one.

You absolutely weren't 'torn to shreds'. In fact you had lots of people suggesting sensible things like phoning your GP surgery at 8am on your day off, like lots of us have to do.

No it won't 'guarantee' you an appointment, but even if you had a month off, nothing would guarantee that anyway.

slashlover · 25/05/2025 22:40

Can you please link to the reply where you were torn to shreads?

ssd · 25/05/2025 22:48

@JockTamsonsBairns , you weren't torn to shreds, come on. Most people offered you decent advice, one person was a bit arsey, but you are over reacting a bit.
Hope you get it all sorted and get your appointment soon.

oviraptor21 · 25/05/2025 22:57

I agree, you were torn to shreds.
AIBU on a Sunday night is often like that. Very unsupportive.

You can't have been reading the right thread, surely?

The OP had some great advice.

shellyleppard · 25/05/2025 22:59

What was the original post?? 🤔🙄😁

WhatICallMyUsername · 25/05/2025 23:04

I don’t even know what to say but you certainly weren’t ripped to shreds by AIBU standards!

Which reply do you think tore OP to shreds?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 25/05/2025 23:15

I can't see any replies where you were torn to shreds @JockTamsonsBairns

WhatICallMyUsername · 25/05/2025 23:20

Your original post was at 20.43 then you posted here at 21.20 with (at 23.20) an 83% you are not being unreasonable vote, are you saying you were ripped to shreds as not everyone agreed with you?

Screamingabdabz · 25/05/2025 23:20

I’ve just looked and read the first tranche of replies and they were perfectly civil and helpful! I’ve been on MN over 20 years and it’s always been the same imo. In fact it was worse back in the day because there was London-centric Sloane ranger snobbery to deal with too. It’s still brutal, but at least the posters are more diverse now!

CarpetKnees · 25/05/2025 23:26

Agree with nearly all the replies on here

RareGoalsVerge · 25/05/2025 23:29

Checked out the thread.
Nope. All perfectly normal.
You got plenty of practical suggestions, some sympathy, a relatively modest about of sarcasm. No shred-ripping at all.

healthybychristmas · 25/05/2025 23:29

You haven't been here with that name though.

Yes, this. I’ve been on here for 14 years, and that thread seems perfectly in line with the kind of brisk, broadly sympathetic, but no-nonsense advice with the occasional outlier you’d associate with Mn. A thread where people go to a lot of trouble to make genuine suggestions, only for an OP to tell them that literally everything they’ve suggested is impossible, tends to make people slightly cross , though.

ladeedarrrmmy · 26/05/2025 01:17

How can you not know that posting in AIBU is certain death? I posted there in 2015 and had to leave the site for a while lol

Except OP’s thread had nothing of the sort!

countingthedays945 · 26/05/2025 06:01

Been around longer than that and it amazes me that this surprises you!

isthismylifenow · 26/05/2025 06:09

You should know better than to post in AIBU then OP.

I've been here a very long time too. I have never started a thread on that board. You just never know which way it's going to go.
