Mumsnet site slow? Problems with Ads?

YetMoreTech · 19/05/2008 13:07

For some users, Mumsnet is slow. It's a problem with the advertisements.

It's only a problem for some people and not others; what we need to try to do is pin it down a bit more. Lots of people have no problem whatsoever, but clearly a not insignificant number do have a problem. We'd love to help those that are having the problems, but to do so we need to get some more information.

What would be really helpful is if people could let us know the following information if they experience a problem. If you don't know the answers to all the questions don't worry, just answer those you can.

Operating System - Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, NT, Vista? Mac OS X? etc.

Age of computer (particularly if you don't know what Operating System you're using)

Browser Version - to find this if you're using Windows, go to the Help menu and click About Internet Explorer, or About Mozilla Firefox (if you're using a different browser you probably already know how to find out the version). If you're using a Mac, go to the menu to the left of the File menu which will be the name of the browser, and choose About.

Kind of internet connection - dial up modem, ADSL, cable modem, office connection, etc.

Any other information that you can provide might be useful too.

If we can see a pattern in it then we will have something to talk to the ad serving company about.

Yes, v v slow for me last night and again today.

Last night: Mac OS X on 3 year old laptop on latest version of both Safari and Firefox (not sure which one, not on laptop atm). Broadband.

Today: Windows, no idea which version (at work), maybe XP? On computer about 2 or 3 years old. Using IE 7. Network connection.

alibubbles · 19/05/2008 13:14

frogs · 19/05/2008 13:15

Was v. slow for me yesterday (zippy new intel-based MacBookPro running OSX v 10.4.11).

Slow using Firefox (2.0.0.14 -- even updated my browser but made no difference) and Safari.

Have now installed noscript popup blocker and all is working at warp speed.

coppertop · 19/05/2008 13:17

Mine goes through periods of being very slow but okay at other times.

OS: Windows XP

Age of computer: 1 year old

Browser version: IE 7

Internet connection: broadband (via Virgin if that's any help)

EffiePerine · 19/05/2008 13:17

it was MUCH slower yesterday, I couldn't access MN at all. Today it's slow but just about workable. If you're patient.

PussinJimmyChoos · 19/05/2008 13:20

Mnet a lot faster today though but here is the info:

Windows XP
PC 2 years old
Virgin Broadband

and...to my shame I can't find the browser version.....

but hope this helps!

onepieceoflollipop · 19/05/2008 13:20

Hi

Vista, pc is 1 year old, Internet Explorer 7

BT Broadband.

Very slow yesterday (and at other random times) but yesterday was the worst ever. NO problems today.

Haven't tried any ad blocking or indeed any other strategies to sort it out - wouldn't know where to start.

vonsudenfed · 19/05/2008 13:24

The same, much faster today than yesterday, but still not great.

Mac OSX 10.5.2
Safari 3.1.1
on a reasonably new iMac, popups blocked
BT Broadband

The other thing that really irritates me about the ads is that there are some which are so scripted/moving/refreshing/whatever that they prevent my computer from going to sleep. That alone is almost enough - however much I don't want to hurt you income - to make me get Adblocker for Safari.

MehgaLegs · 19/05/2008 13:25

Like coppertop mines ok today but I had a few slow days last week.

Operating System - Windows XP

Age of computer - 2 years

Browser Version- 5.1.2600 (? not sure about this bit)

BT Yahoo Broadband connection

UnquietDad · 19/05/2008 13:47

Puss - What's the program called that opens when you go on the internet? Firefox, Internet Explorer, safari?...

VictorianSqualor · 19/05/2008 13:49

Op system:- windows xp
Age of computer:- 4 years
Browser version:- Mozilla/5.0
Internet connection:- ADSL

It was terrible yesterday til I put my mozilla ad-blocker on, now it's fine.

VictorianSqualor · 19/05/2008 13:50

It was doubleclick as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/05/2008 14:44

pc age: less than 6 months
op: xp
browser firefox 2.0.0.14
connection: virgin broadband hardwired through wireless router.

def was hanging up on doubleclick and somewhat google-analytics. don't want to undo my adblocker until really confident it'll be ok as it took me ages to set it up how I like it.

PenelopePitstops · 19/05/2008 14:47

umberella · 19/05/2008 14:48
