Can we disable quoting the opening post?

I find it so annoying when posters quote the op. Surely anyone replying to a thread, it is self explanatory that they are replying to the opening post, without needing to quote it?

it means having to scroll through multiple, often long, quotes of opening posts completely needlessly.

OP posts:

Totally agree, especially when it's the first reply!

DoNotLikeItGreenEggsAndHam · 06/05/2025 09:28

They keep saying that they will “look into this “but it never changes. The app update has made it worse I think, as now you can’t cut and paste from the original post either.

Ceska · 06/05/2025 09:29

Oh please do this, sick of seeing first post being quoted

CuriousKangaroo · 06/05/2025 09:30

Yes please!

Clitmandu · 06/05/2025 10:10

I hate it too. It’s so time consuming especially when it’s a long post. It makes me click off the thread.

BeesTrees · 06/05/2025 10:35

Yes, please change this. Nobody reads the requoted post anyway, but it’s so tedious, especially when after quoting the opening post they just write a 3 word reply!

Never2many · 06/05/2025 10:38

Yes please. Although it’s been asked for several times before.

What infuriates me most is when someone quotes the opening post just two or three posts in. I mean FFS if you’re on that page then that’s what you’re reading.

JaneJeffer · 06/05/2025 11:15

I think part of the reason is that you can no longer c&p the part of a post you want to reply to so people are reposting the whole thing.

SnowFrogJelly · 06/05/2025 11:17

I can’t believe people are still complaining about this.. really doesn’t bother me at all!

TheAutumnCrow · 06/05/2025 11:20

I’m surprised that some twat hasn’t already done it on this thread to show how ‘hilarious’ they are. It usually happens.

And you are the arbiter of everything? So it doesn’t bother you so it shouldn’t bother anyone else?

Zimunya · 06/05/2025 13:02

I totally agree that it's annoying and unnecessary on the first few pages, but if the thread is several pages long, it's sometimes helpful to differentiate whether you are replying to the OP, or to a side argument / discussion that has developed along the way.

BIWI · 06/05/2025 13:02

you can no longer c&p

Of course you can!

suburberphobe · 06/05/2025 13:06

Yes, it's really annoying.

notatinydancer · 06/05/2025 13:09

Totally agree

MagpiePi · 06/05/2025 13:10

Yes, it is very irritating

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 06/05/2025 13:11

I’m on iPhone and definitely can’t cut and paste anymore

I completely agree.
(Couldn't resist. No self-control.)

Same. I started a thread about it. Don’t know if anything is being done to fix it.

You can copy the text and paste it all then delete the bits you don’t want - a long workaround maybe

The only way I can copy text is by taking a screenshot and copying it from there!

Davros · 06/05/2025 14:55

I asked for this during app testing and pointed out cut and paste no longer available 🤷‍♀️
I also don’t get how the new app only offers “thanks” as a response

Another triumph for accessibility aid users. Not.

BangersAndGnash · 06/05/2025 15:33

I can copy and paste 🫤.

But, yes, please, save these numpties from making fools of themselves and disable quoting the OP.

BertieBotts · 06/05/2025 15:37

I saw someone the other day telling off a poster for NOT quoting the OP because they reckoned it made the poster look like they were replying to the preceding comment!

Er, no it doesn't, most people can read context or just ask if they aren't sure. Not everything has to be threaded to be understandable.
