I can’t currently use this site for more than a few minutes. It lags, it freezes very often, and it heats my phone up (new iPhone 16, fully up to date, cookies cleared regularly) to the point I have to switch it off, within about 5 minutes. This has been a problem for months.

I’m pretty sure it’s an advert problem. I have no idea why this site is unusable but others I can use without issue.

If this is a problem for me I’m certain it is for others.

Tbh my life would probably be more productive without MN, but presumably for you this site relies on users?

Any chance this could be fixed?

Have you tried access via a browser app such as DuckduckGo, Brave or Ghostery? Its worth a try and will confirm if the problem is the more intrusive and clunky ads/cookies.

I’m still suffering with random webpage refresh on Chrome iPhone. It’s so annoying that I just close the page.

Yep same here. I have very strict filters on my Wi-Fi at home and I struggle too because of ads not fully loading and the site freezing if I use any of the mainstream browsers. I noticed it worked much better when I was overseas on a less restrictive Wi-Fi. I don’t have a paid subscription to MN.

Just get a blank white page when the annoying ad fails to load that is totally frozen.

Works a little better on Firefox browser, as opposed to Safari.

I don’t have a problem on my iPad, but it’s bad on my phone. So many ads. Far more than in the past. I know sites have to make money, but does it have to be so many now?

@SeedyHotel- same here have now resorted to the app - perhaps that was the intention of the owners. I’ve also tried the same solutions as you e.g.regularly clearing cookies etc.
if I ever try to load it not only does it still freeze/fail to load, if then affects subsequent websites that I try to access as it keeps trying to revert back to Mumsnet (and freezing again and again) even when I’ve navigated away.

I have the same issue but to a significantly lower level with certain online newspapers with multiple ads. The type you have to agree to all cookies, or pay to view. Usually I get through on a second or third attempt but this doesn’t work with Mumsnet at all.

On my iPad, viewing by safari I continually crash and get the message 'a problem repeatedly occurred'.

I don't want to do things like 'access via a browser app', mainly because I don't have a clue what that means!

So I resort to accessing on my android phone. But on there, I cannot make the font any bigger. Again, have no idea why. I increase the font size on the phone but MN stays the same. I have to stretch every page with my fingers, then it pings back to default size when I move to the next page.

Would appreciate any suggestions on either issue, but only ones that a non techy person can understand 🤣🤣😭😭

It’s been months of it, as a result I’m using the site a lot less than I did. At one point it seemed a lot better on chrome than safari, but now it just seems to being chrome to a halt too.

I had this and mnhq did eventually tell me what to do. I genuinely can’t remember, I had to go into my iPad settings and clear something. But touch wood it’s been fine since.

I get this on mumsnet with DuckDuckGo – no other websites!

On mumsnet there is also a thing where I can’t copy and paste anything – if I try to highlight text, it ‘pulls’ the side of the page, and it either refreshes or navigates to a different page.

It’s not just me then!! Please can you advise how to stop it Mumsnet?

Hi there @SeedyHotel. Can we ask you to go into your settings and check how many posts per page you are viewing? If you have it set to 'all' it's worth changing to 50 posts per page and then saving that preference.

Ages ago that didn’t work for me. I had to do some sort of cache clearing? Someone at mnhq gave me step by step instructions. This was on my iPad I think??

Safari on iOS is unusable. Video ads popping up at the top of every single page (draining data and battery) - I swear these are the same ones that people complained about a few years ago - bizarre mix of microwave cake recipes, bingo ads, and people talking about their child's blood transfusion. Then I'd say one out of every three pages re-loads, sometimes multiple times, due to an error.

Yes, same here. I mentioned it a while ago, but it’s still a problem 🙄

Same problem on ipad, changed to Safari from Google , ok for a while then freezing.

I agree. And since my last update on my ipad it seems even worse.
Definitely the ads. I understand that advertising pays for the site but there needs to be some way of still ensuring it remains usable!

Same x 1000! The last couple of months have been ridiculous. Takes ages to load, freezes, clicking on thread links doesn’t work. It’s actually making me abandon the site more often than not. I’ve cleared my cache, made no difference. iPhone 14 user and I’m near enough ready to give up altogether as it’s too frustrating, like living with dial up internet again.

It's nothing to do with settings.

It's the the ads screwing everything up.

Yes agree - it makes my phone heat up and drains battery. I won't use it on my mobile anymore.

I’m also experiencing these issues and the frustration means I’m using the site far less.

Mn can work fine for say 10 mins, then it freezes, error codes etc.

Have you tried logging in? They don’t come up as much for me! And when I don’t, I just click the X and it disappears?
